About

Kate Nash was born in 1987 in Dublin and grew up in northwest London. An aspiring actress in her youth, Kate studied drama at the London BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. A twist of fate in the form of a broken foot left her bedridden and while incapacitated she revisited some unfinished songs she'd written when she was younger. Convinced of their quality, she gigged for a while and published some of her material on MySpace, including the track that shot her to fame, “Caroline's A Victim.”

With the encouragement of fellow singer Lily Allen, Kate released “Caroline's A Victim” in 2007 on the indie Moshi Moshi Records label. Her second single “Foundations” was released through Fiction Records a few months later and was also an immediate hit. Such was the demand that her debut album Made of Bricks was released earlier than planned in August 2007, reaching No. 1 in the UK Album Chart and No. 36 on the US Billboard 200. Appearances at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Wireless Festival festivals followed, as well as on many TV shows, including Later with Jools Holland. She won a BRIT award for Best Female Artist, an NME award for Best Solo Artist and a Q award for Breakthrough act in 2008.

In 2009, she founded and became a director of the Featured Artists' Coalition, which lobbies for greater autonomy in the music industry for artists. She also created Kate Nash's Rock 'n' Roll for Girls After-School Music Club, which aims to inspire young women to become interested in writing and performing music. She is politically active and uses her fame and influence to raise money for worthy causes.

In 2010, she released her second album My Best Friend Is You which was produced by Suede's former guitarist, Bernard Butler. Her third album, Girl Talk, was released in 2013. She has collaborated with many famous musicians, including Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Sam Duckworth, Billy Bragg and Willow Smith, and she also produced Watsky's Hey Asshole in 2013. Musically she has been influenced by such diverse artists and bands as The Supremes, John Cooper Clarke, Regina Spektor, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Elvis and Janis Joplin.

    Kate Rocked it

by MsArt on 5/14/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

The show opened with Supercute! and I mean really any 15/13 year old girls could get up and do that, which is why I think Kate had to introduce them and inform us to be polite. But after that the show was amazing, she could have swapped out a couple of the new song like Mansion Song and I Just Love You More with some of the songs from her older CD but other than that it was perfect because she told all of us to act on our impulses as long as they weren't violent so she basically invited everyone on the stage and blew off the security, all while singing her heart out. Basically if Kate hadn't of had supercute I would have given the performance a 5.

fun...but she's a more WAY intense person than i knew! i was expecting all her happy songs, but she definitely focused more on her political commentary songs. :(

    not worth it

by chimigi on 5/13/10music hall of williamsburg - brooklyn

i clearly had expectations for this concert, because i left very disappointed. supercute wasn't very good and kate nash (who was suffering from a twisted ankle) was a trooper on stage with her crutches, but the band was so disorganized and they were all half-drunk and confused. the show was almost all her new stuff, which is not as good as her original album. she only played two songs from her first album, no encore, no love. could have definitely lived without seeing her.

    Not her best show

by TempLA on 5/12/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I was already in doubt when I heard her new album. The show proved it... it's hard to make a second album when your first was so successful. She can play, she can sing.... and now she can scream too. A lot. I have no idea what point she is trying to make, but I didn't get it. And Supercute had no place on that stage. Sorry Kate - I understand that you find them 'cute' but really.... I paid $33 and I don't want to see an amateur highschool performance.

    Smooshed!

by ragzgraphics on 5/12/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

While I love Kate Nash with all of my heart, I thought her performance last night was seriously lacking. The first half of the show she had the audience in the palm of her hand and we would have gone anywhere with her. But somehow the sweet razor sharp lyrics she usually sings sweetly turned into screams and a lot of middle finger action. Eeek! She seemed to be smooshed and botch the last half of the set and she hardly played any of her hits which lead the audience to boos as she walked off stage. Many including myself, exclaiming, "Is that it?!?"

Kate Nash good but could've been better

by thinkindie on 5/12/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Awesome performance of her new album...she has matured so much as a performer since the last time I saw her about a year ago. I love the new edgier Kate. However, I was somewhat disappointed that she snubbed most of her old stuff. Tracks like "Shit Song" and "Dickhead" I think go very well with her new material....kinda sad we didn't get to hear any of those tracks.

    I love Kate Nash

by StageDancer on 5/12/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I personally think Supercute (the opening band) was terrible... any 12 year old could sing like that. It felt like it was more of a middle school talent show than a concert in Los Angeles. But Kate Nash was amazing. She rocked the whole show. She played guitar or the piano for every song. My friend and I got to go on stage and dance with her towards the end of the show.. it was so much fun. Kate Nash is so friendly and sweet, she allowed a meet and greet after the show if you bought her cd from the merch booth (which was only $15). How could it get any better? Oh yeah, getting a free beer from her on stage :)

    Kate Nash Rocks!

Kate overall had a great show. I love both of her CDs. However, I was disappointed that she didn't play 2 of my favorite songs off of her first album.

Was great overall, but would be even better if Kate did "We get on" - one of her best songs.

    Glad it was only $10

    by upsgirl14 on 5/8/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

I was really disappointed with this show. Not only was she being a little bit of a diva, but it was also extremely short. The music itself was alright however it was frustrating to watch and listen to her complain between every song. I'm glad it was only $10 because otherwise I don't think I'd feel I got my moneys worth of music.

I love her music and I'm glad I got to see her live. Her newer music was a bit more rock than her first album, but nonetheless I still liked the concert. I also got to meet and greet her and she was very nice!

The sound wasn't great. Could hardly tell which song she was singing. I think she sounded good, but the acoustics and production of it all drowned her out. Bummed out.

    Kate Nash?

    by drewster18 on 5/6/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

The show was decent. I wish she would have played more than 2 songs from her first album. I know everyone has complaints about setlists and I know she's trying to have a different image and seems to be shying from her 1st album a bit but that album is so solid. I wish she would have played more period. 1 hour setlist??? She came here last time with only 1 album and still put on a full set (1.5 hours), now she has 2 so she should have filled the time. When that screen came down after she left the stage with no encore.. it was totally lame. At least come out and do a 1 song encore! I thought the show was decent. The crowd wasn't as good as last time it seemed though. Buying tickets the day they went on sale for 3.50 prior to fees was great and for what I paid I was happy with it.

I love Kate Nash but the venue was weak!

by MikeyFromMinnie on 5/6/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

No encore!?! What the Hell? Very little previous material, the new material although very good is best appreciated by listening to the CD as the sound quality at this venue sucked!! So the two stars are not for Kate's performance but rather the poor venue. Cheers!

    Meh Performance

by Anonymous on 5/6/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

I expected a much better performance from Kate Nash. First of all, it was extremely short, show only lated about an hour. She played a ton of music from her new album (which I can see why), but cd only came out 2 weeks ago and I bought this tickets months ago before I even knew of the album. The opener, SuperCute, is only as good as their name sounds.

    Disappointing

by Anonymous on 5/6/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

This was not one of the better concerts I've been to. First, the opening band was 45 minutes late, and when they finally came out, they only played for 15 minutes. This was some band I had never heard of called Supercute, a group of three pre-teen girls that would be more at home with the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus. After they were done, Kate Nash took another 45 minutes to come out, and while her performance was not bad, it was certainly underwhelming. At least the tickets were cheap.

I didn't understand why Supercute was chosen; they were awkward & too young to be performing. If they had been good but young, I would've enjoyed it. But I did not appreciate their music. The conjunction of Supercute & Kate Nash was quite strange to me b/c they were so severely contrasted, yet Kate Nash tried to justify Supercute's presence @ the concert through repeated advocacy for them. The concert didn't jive; it wasn't cohesive as a whole. Also, Kate Nash was quite unfriendly & seemed annoyed to be @ the concert. She was very angry throughout the concert. The show was extremely short; barely 1 hour long. I know Kate's ankle hurts, but I was definitely expecting a more dynamic, upbeat, much longer show. Overall, I had a good time w/ my friend, but the show was disappointing.
