    AMAZING NIGHT!

by ImJustLiz on 6/8/12Emo's Alternative Lounge - Austin

I first heard of Katatonia about 7 years ago & ever since I've been forever in love with their music! Jonas is one amazing singer, his voice has a very distinguishable tone to it. In 2010 I went to my first Katatonia concert, where they were playing at Emo's Austin,TX with Orphaned Land & Swallow the Sun. One unforgettable night! I'm hoping to hear them once again. :)

    Good show

by Anonymous on 10/11/10Jaxx Nightclub - Springfield

Bands: Swallow the Sun was pretty decent. Orphaned Land puts on a great live performance which is both entertaining and amusing, I would definitely go check them out again. Katatonia is one of my favorite bands and thus I may be a little biased; however, they put on a good show and it was nice to finally be able to see them live after 10 years of listening to them. They are not as energetic as a typical metal band, but they are doom metal and perhaps that is why. Venue: Jaxx is a decent small club. Easily accessible bar and merchandise tables. The place is close to a couple restaurants and has a decent amount of parking (free). A bit out of the way for where I live. The crowd was a bit mixed and not as engaged as I would have liked to see.

    you are not worthy

by anonnymous on 10/11/10Jaxx Nightclub - Springfield

Katatonia is one of the most talented "underground" bands out there. Their CDs are spectacular and their live performance is near perfect. Jonas has one of the most stirring and emotive voices in rock music. The band has evolved from its "Doom/Goth" roots into a style that transcends the stereotypical classifications. Progressive, heavy, poetic, aggressive, visceral, and thought provoking are just a few ways to describe the Katatonia sound. This particular show at Jaxx was a treat for all in attendance. It was the last stop on their 26 show US club tour. The camaraderie evident between everyone on the tour was apparent as members of Swallow The Sun and Orphaned Land yuckked it up on stage between and during the songs. It was a big celebration of the end of the tour and everyone on stage and in the audience was having a blast. It's too bad that most people are ignorant of such great music.

    Awesome opening acts!!

by Anonymous on 10/9/10Jaxx Nightclub - Springfield

This was one of those rare concerts where the opening acts outplayed the headliner! Katatonia seemed intoxicated and out of sorts, the drummer needing a massage after two songs (puhleese) and Jonas Renkse appearing drunk and tone-deaf, hitting less straight notes than the average American Idol contestant.. The best acts of this show were Finland's Swallow The Sun and Israel's Orphaned Land, a new Steven Wilson protege, who put on a show with a belly dancer and fake snake etc. Both bands were absolutely amazing.

    Still miss old Katatonia

    by ksandage323 on 10/9/10Masquerade - Atlanta

Why doesn't Blackheim do the harsh vocals so Katatonia can play the old stuff?

Katatonia destroys live. It was my first time seeing them so I wasn't really sure what to expect but it was great. The sound was great and crushing, I was surprised at how heavy their sound came across. They're a clean vocal group with some softer sounding songs but live, their harder parts come across with force. Fantastic show, fantastic performance.

Good Show but Venue needs New Sound System!

by eNIGAMTICsquid on 10/5/10Whisky - Hollywood

I love to watch Katatonia as always when they make a stop in California, but The Whiskey needs a new sound system or something. Speaker quality was not up to par and sounded kind of bad during the main set of Katatonia. This was disappointing from the last time i saw them there a few years back. Regardless, it was still fun and a bunch of great bands. I would have loved to seen them at a bigger venue perhaps.

Katatonia confirmed that they are unforgettable!

by 21112 on 9/28/10Galaxy Theatre - Santa Ana

I thought the venue was extremely nice. Attaining the tickets at will call was effortless and without hassle which began the event off on a positive note. It was the longest concert I have ever attended which was a plus and even though the headlining act hit the stage promptly at midnight, I had no trouble staying awake for the next hour and a half due to their truly amazing performance! I really enjoyed myself and not only would I love to see Katatonia once again in concert but I wouldn't mind attending the venue again as well even though I live in the bay area nearly 7 hours away.

    Orphaned Land's show

by Orphaned on 9/21/10Station 4 - Saint Paul

I have never heard Katatonia before. I did it a few hours before the show and sounded ok. I went to this show because I just wanted to see Orphaned Land. It was a good show. I was expecting more old material, but I understand they have a new cd wich is one of the best cd the ever had. Katatonia sound very good live. I was impress. I think I will follow them more.

    Damn those thieves!

by Monpire on 9/20/10Station 4 - Saint Paul

Besides the fact that Katatonia got 2 of their guitars, strap, and transmitters stolen, also the technical issues for them. The concert was awesome after everything was fixed. The setup was awesome - talking about the sounds it produced. Super loud yet we can still hear the song lyrics. The turn out was quite low, but over all a very well behaved crowd. So overall, security needs to be improved. Hopefully this experience won't scare off Katatonia to come back! Had a blast!

    An experience I'll NEVER forget!!

    by Misty14 on 9/18/10Peabody's Downunder - Cleveland

I've only started listening to Katatonia in the last few years, but I knew I'd be a fan for life after the hearing Unfurl for the first time. I was SO excited to learn they were coming to the states and I got my VIP ticket the day they went on sale. Katatonia did NOT disappoint! The meet and greet was amazing. The band was friendly and happy to take pics and answer questions. I can't say enough how mindblowing the show was. I could have stayed and heard them the play all night. Niklas Sandin (bass player) even let me touch the bass at the end of the show and we got one of Anders guitars picks!

    AWESOME!!!!

    by ANGEL2020203404 on 9/16/10Peabody's Downunder - Cleveland

Katatonia was great!!!! They didn't play alot of the growl songs which was good cause i'm not really into that. Also the opening band Orphaned Land was really good, I recommend checking then out. They are from Israel and sang a few songs in Hebrew that I didn't understand, but the music was so good you don't even care about the words.

Expect the new, not so much old

by erictheviking on 9/10/10Sonar - Baltimore

I had high hopes for this tour. I had seen Katatonia once before when they played over in the netherlands when I was vacationing there. That was during the Great Cold Distance tour. The setlist there which I brought back with me, had a somewhat decent mix from all their albums. I believe Katatonia did 6 songs off Night is the New Day, at least 4 maybe 5 off Great Cold Distance, 3 off of Viva Emptiness, only the song teargas off Last fair deal gone down, nothing off Tonights Decision and Saw You Drown from Discouraged Ones. I'll admit to liking Discouraged ones/tonights decision era katatonia the most so I was displeased by their set. I got the vip ticket and was glad to meet the band, but I wasn't overly excited after that set. In closing, i'd say that a band really doesn't need to play that many new songs with such an amazing back catalog of material to play from. Orphaned Land was interesting to watch, wouldn't buy their music but was entertained. Swallow the sun was boring, I was hoping to like this band, was maybe thinking they would be like My Dying Bride.
