    Great show

by Mgrom on 11/14/22Sony Hall - New York

Great show. Tight playing, good energy. It's been worth waiting over three years for that!. One star less for not playing Soil's Song.

    unbelievable

by JVM156 on 4/28/17Irving Plaza - New York

Katatonia is a band i've watched rise in popularity here in the states over the last 15 years and i'm so glad I have. From first seeing them in a tiny little hole in the wall to now practically selling out Irving plaza and they deserve every bit of success. Every show gets better and better and they owned the place this night. They tended to stick to newer material but even so, Any katatonia is great katatonia.

Katatonia at the State - Loved the show!!

by Panacea222 on 3/24/17State Theatre - St Petersburg

The band opened by standing toward the back of stage in front of the drummer. Very cool stage presence. Open with a track from the latest The Fall of Hearts, then old school Criminals from Viva. The song selection spanned many years and was a nice mix from Teargas to current tracks Old Heart Falls, Last Song before the Fade, Passer and 2 more i think. Every song was on the mark - nothing fancy - just straight up melodic metal. Love seeing this band and you will too!

Katatonia put on an amazing show. The opening act, Caspian, was absolutely brilliant.

    Great show, great venue

by ILoveOtters on 3/22/17The Underground - Charlotte

This show was fantastic! I came in time to see Caspian (was a little late and missed the opener) and they really set the tone for the show. They definitely won a new fan here. Katatonia's set was mixed with older and newer songs, which is awesome when a band can switch it up and not just play their greatest hits or latest album. The Underground is a fantastic venue, very well laid out with two bars and a separate one for the VIP section. It was clean, too, which is a nice change from other venues.

    Katatonia is better than ever!

by Adammm on 3/22/17The Underground - Charlotte

Go see this show if you can, it will be one of your best of the year! The band sounds amazing. Their sound is incredibly tight and the show is full of energy. The lighting and ambience matched the set perfectly at the venue I attended; these guys have been around and really know how to give their art power!

    I've had better

by Nemesis1013 on 9/29/13Irving Plaza powered by Klipsch - New York

Intronaut was a great opener. Really strong performance and good show. Would have been better if I could have sat as the music is largely instrument and it's mostly a light show, but oh well. TesseracT was fantastic. Their singer might even be better live than on album. The band had a ton of energy and a great stage presence. They were easily the highlight of the night. Cult of Luna was BORING. The first 20 minutes were ok, but the next hour DRAAAAAAAAGED. And there really wasn't much to watch while the music droned on! I went downstairs for most of it and was annoyed they got to play for so long. I just did not see the appeal of their show. Katatonia was not on their game. I saw them on their last US tour and they were awesome. This time, they started their set with all slow songs, the band had little energy, Jonas sang with no conviction whatsoever, and they didn't even have light show or stage set to help. Calling it lackluster is being generous. After being put in a bit of a sour mood after Cult of Luna anyway, this wasn't selling me in the slightest. I left after about 6 songs.

    Katatonia rocked Boston

by Agmz on 9/28/13Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Show was super legit, but their set list was cut short from what I heard? I'm not surprised nowadays. Third time I've seen them in the past few years. I always catch them when they come around to my area. The sound quality of the night was decent (8/10?), and the venue was interesting (more longer than wide, so you could be close to the stage nearly wherever you were).

    Katatonia was incredible!

by Colbertarius on 9/12/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Before I move on to Katatonia, I want to talk about the opening acts a little bit... Stolen Babies put on a pretty good show to start things up, i'm not really into their sort of avant-garde, "oingo boingo" metal/punk style, but it was unique and worth experiencing once at least. Paradise Lost then came on and really cranked things up. Even though there was a problem hearing Nick Holmes the whole time because of his flu (and maybe his microphone might not have worked properly at the time), they put on a great performance, I was banging my head the whole time, even for the songs I don't know as well. Then we get to Katatonia... Katatonia put on a spectacular show on Saturday! They played many of my favorite songs in their discography, along with some of the big highlights from their most recent album they were touring in support of (Dead End Kings). The introduction they played to Dead Letters, which ends when Jonas calls for the "City of Angels" sent shivers down my spine, and got me even more excited to hear their performance. I was banging my head hard (my neck is a little sore now, but so worth it) and singing along word for word to almost every song they played. I was in awe of just how stunning this performance was as I was banging my head, many of the songs sound even better live than in the studio. Certainly one of the best nights of my life. And I have nothing to say about the Devin Townsend performance because I left after Katatonia was done with their show. I personally never cared for his work (I'm sure he's great at what he does, his style is just not for me) and I wanted to get back home before I got too exhausted to drive back for an hour or so. So yeah, that's all I have to say.

    Wanting much more

by Bobby2741 on 9/11/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

The only reason I came to this show was because of Paradise Lost who are one of my favorite bands and I have been a fan since Gothic. Their set was short for a band of this status, the sound guy did a poor job, and they deserved much more than this. It was a treat to finally see them once again, but you know... Katatonia and Devin could've easily cut one song from their sets to give Paradise Lost and their fans a much deserved longer set. Stolen Babies did a great job as the opener and Katatonia and Devin blew away my expectations. Especially Devin Townsend who I had no idea was this great of a live performer.

    Katatonia was sublime

by punipuni on 9/11/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I've seen Katatonia 3 times before this show and I was truly blown away. Their stage presence was amazing and the music was truly amazing. It was their best show yet. Paradise Lost was also awesome! (We had a sick friend and couldn't stay for Devin Townsend)

    Katatonia was incredible!

by Colbertarius on 9/11/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Katatonia put on an unforgettable show on saturday! They played about half of the songs from Dead End Kings (Hypnone, The Racing Heart, Lethean, Dead Letters, Buildings) and many of their other classics such as My Twin, Deadhouse, and Teargas. The Stolen Babies show was pretty good, and the Paradise Lost show was even better, but Katatonia's performance simply made this night unbelievable! Quite simply one of the best nights I ever had in my life. The sound is much better here than the last venue I went to (Verizon Amphitheater in Irvine), but I still brought earplugs since it's still a bit hard on the ears (even though I sometimes just took them off anyway during Katatonia's performance since I was so into the performance). I didn't stay for Devin Townsend personally, I live about an hour away and I didn't want to be too exhausted driving back (plus I never really cared for his music personally, I was there mostly for Katatonia). This is a very nice, sophisticated looking venue, I would definitely come back here again whenever a band I love is performing. Overall, I had the time of my life. Hail Katatonia! \m/

    Devin Townsend was incredible!

by Ferike on 9/11/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Devin Townsend is always so full of energy, so charismatic and interracts with everyone in the crowd that he can. Devin always makes it worth the wait through the openers, and always puts on the best show. He makes you feel like you're apart of the show, rather than just someone in the crowd watching. This show was no different. He had a nice balance of older songs with the newer ones to fill the tastes of many of his diffrerent fans, and he made sure to give eye contact and pay special attention to those who were participating- even some who didn't. He's a fantastic entertainer. And even after the show, when he was exhausted, he took the time to meet everyone, sign things and take pictures with his fans. To gain the full experience of a Devin Townsend show, you would have to go to one and see for yourself. I would highly recommend that even if you've not listened to his music, go see him live. His excellent sense of humor, mixed with his overall stage presence will blow you away. The only complaint I would have is the venue had poor set up, and vocals could barely be heard for any of the bands, and I was right at the stage. I couldn't get into the openers because I couldn't hear much of what was going on. Really only those who already knew of them were able to enjoy them fully.

    Sucks

by MonkeyHead234 on 9/10/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

El Rey Theater too small. Sound too loud for theater, had to move to the back and even plug my ears. Devin Townsend has two new guitarists that were not as good as the old ones. Played a lot of songs off new album which is not even out yet. Crowd stood kind of baffled because people didn't know the songs. Katatonia is a boring band and all their songs sound the same.

Devin Townsend at the El Rey Theatre

by Portnoy on 9/10/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

This was metal beyond the Periodic Table of Elements! While I have heard here and there about Devin, I hadn't truly been exposed to him since his brief encounter Vai (which I actually enjoyed). Like a mad scientist, Devin explores the outer barriers of melodic phrasing while still kicking your ass with grooves that will have you banging your head, pumping a first, or wishing that there were more Devin's in this World!

    Katatonia and Paradise Lost

by InsaneClown on 9/10/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Even though the vocalist for Paradise Lost was suffering from the flu, the performance was stellar. And Katatonia was off the chart, their performance was perfect, maybe one of the best shows I've ever seen. Most highly recommend this show to anyone who enjoys good metal and beautiful music.

Katatonia was perfect ; Devin Townsend sucked.

by MasterChrisG123 on 9/10/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Devin Townsend was nothing compared to his live videos on youtube, he sounded nothing like it, and all his songs sounded like noise to me. all the same.
