About

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Dust in the Wind.' KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the '70's and '80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. 'Carry On Wayward Son' continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and 'Dust In the Wind' has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of "The Prelude Implicit," KANSAS's fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band's first studio album release in 16 years.

In 2020 KANSAS followed up "The Prelude Implicit" with the album "The Absence of Presence."

The band, which is currently comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, guitarist Scott Bernard, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, bassist/vocalist Dan McGowan, original guitarist Richard Williams, and original drummer Phil Ehart. Eric Holmquist performs on drums while Phil Ehart continues to recover from a major heart attack. KANSAS continues to energize audiences with their powerful live performances.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and popular culture. The band continues to reach a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence in various commercials, live sports broadcasts, popular video games Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto; the band's documentary film "KANSAS: Miracles Out of Nowhere," and a guest appearance on The CW's television show 'Walker.' The band's songs have also been included in various television shows such as 'Supernatural,' 'Reacher,' 'All Elite Wrestling,' 'South Park,' 'The Office,' and 'The Simpsons;' as well as blockbuster films including 'Old School,' 'The Suicide Squad,' 'Anchorman,' 'Pitch Perfect,' 'Happy Gilmore,' and 'Happy Gilmore 2.'

  • 10/10/09 KANSAS & 3 DOG NIGHT Concert

by MisterDLadyD on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

We were very pleased to see that the concert started on-time. Though it may have been better to have had 3 Dog Night start the evening off, when they finally got on the stage it looked like they had missed their naps or needed to take some Geritol & Ensure to get themselves moving. Once they got themselves going, 3 Dog showed what makes them a headlining group. Kansas was great hands down and should have been the Headliners at this one!

  • 3 Dog Night with Kansas was a great show!

    by Onelove97 on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Several months ago, we had some friends from California recommend that we go see 3 Dog Night if they came to the Seattle area. They were absolutely right! If you are a baby boomer, 3 Dog Nights music was a part of the generation that you grew up with. The concert brought back many happy memories of those times. All of these musicians still have the talent that propelled them to the top of the charts in the 1970's. Plus they had fun doing the show. Kansas was awesome. The talent of the musicians who make up this band is beyond compare. They kept the joint rockin from their opening number right on through their encore, "Carry on my wayward son". I would definitely go and see both of these groups again when they return. The venue, while decent once inside, needs some improvement in the entrance and exit procedures. You must enter the hall after tromping from one end to the other of the casino. Only one entrance was utilized, so the lines were long. At the end of the show, you were rushed out of the hall by security, to once again wait in lines to depart. At least they used 2 exits while leaving.

  • Amazing, unforgettable event

by Kiyabear on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was a DOUBLE WIN! Kansas rocked it hard, displaying incredible musianship and entertainment. The music was really tight and the show was a real SHOW. It was Kansas's 35th anniversary tour and wow, they were as high energy and wonderful has they were over 30 years ago. Three Dog Night was absolutely outstanding. OMG, these guys truly have improved with age. The harmonies were spot on, the music was riveting and showmanship just grabbed us by the throat and would not let go. I fell in love with the group all over again. It was a mixed age group and there was something for everybody. They played a lot of their classics and threw in new material. They really seemed to enjoy themselves and swept us right along with them.

  • Kansas and 3 Dog Night

by Pointman on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Wow. I saw 3 Dog Night back in the 70's when they were the big act on the ticket. They haven't change, except for age, from what I remember. Kansas blew the crowd away with all of their hits. Both bands have exceptional musicians that know how to put on a show.

  • Kansas/3 Dog Night Made for a Great Night

by Chiya on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

Kansas rocked! They put on a good show & played over an hour. They were entertaining and played all their good songs. They seemed to be enjoying playing. I wanted more when thier set was done. 3 Dog Night started pretty slow. They seemed to be doing a job, rather than performing. After about 1/2 hour, they got into what they were doing & loosened up some. They played their big hits and songs off albums that were not on the radio. Overall the evening was really fun! I would see both groups again.

  • Kansas and 3 Dog Night spectacular show!

by grimy on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the concert was fantastic and fun. I was very impressed by the violin player in Kansas. Kansas is such a talented band and has always been a long time favorite. The entire show sounded great and had a lot of energy. I am glad to have had the opportunity to attend this event!

  • Kansas & 3 Dog Night at EQC

by FromPDX on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

Rather good. Kansas sound was a bit bass heavy, but Kansas is Kansas so you can hardly go wrong. Excellent violinist (not the original). Four of the original six members of the band were there. Kerry Livgren was not - he usually never tours. The band rocked. 3 Dog Night was quite entertaining, a nice counterpart to the manic energy of Kansas. It's amazing how many 10 top hits 3DN has (especially songs made into hits by other artists). My only complaint is that the video direction was less than stellar. It's amazing how often the wrong musician was shown on image, for example, during a guitar solo the screen would be showing the bass player.

  • Both groups were terrific

    by 44Hotrod on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Both put on good show, real impressed with the venue. 3 Dog Night did most all their old great songs, it was fun and enjoyable. Too bad they remind me how old I am but their show was as if it were the first time I saw them many many years ago.

  • Three Dog Night - B-O-R-I-N-G

by LadyBugBates on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 1 out of 5

I think these guys have been doing this too long. Cory Wells was unanimated and hardly smiled. There was no passion in their music. More like robots performing and doing the least they could do to just get through the routine. I was looking forward to a couple of hits that were never sung. This was my dream concert, I paid for front row tickets and left a concert dissappointed for the first time. Wouldn't walk across the street to see them again.

  • by Anonymous on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

Three dog night was very enjoyable. Played all the standard and some alternate tracks. The alternate stuff was very entertaining and fresh to me and the wife dance all the way to the gold hits.

  • Bad Seats & Ridiculously Loud

    by LuckyNumber85 on 8/19/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 1 out of 5

Started off when we arrived in our seats. We paid for track seats to get a better view of the stage & be closer to the band. Turns out we actually paid for a seat 10 feet from the speaker stack--and we weren't even faced towards the band, we were staring at the speakers unless we craned our necks to the right. Just got worse from there. The pre-show music was a little loud (and I'm in my 20's, so I like my music loud...but this was just ridiculous). So we asked an usher and found a spot near the back of the track. This was ok...til Kansas came out and they cranked it up to an 11. Our ears were hurting and the concert had barely started. We walked out & sold our tickets to someone else coming in. I"m sure Kansas was great, but they & the fair needs to get their seating & sound system figured out. There's got to be a way they can put on a good & loud show without making your ears ring from the first few fiddle notes.

  • Kansas Concert-Great Music

by MizzouFarmer on 8/18/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 4 out of 5

Kansas still knows how to rock. The concert brought back a lot of old fond memories of me and my husband's younger years, but the newer stuff was great too. The whole band was awesome but I was especially intrigued by the violin music which just added so much.

  • Kansas In Missouri

by IrridescentBubble on 8/18/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 4 out of 5

What a great night it was in Sedalia, Missouri when Kansas came to play! Kansas still rocks big arena style, even though it was a small venue. (The Pepsi Arena at the Missouri State Fair.) I've gotta say though, they didn't perform quite long enough when you consider how far some folks had to travel to get to see them! They could have played 4 more songs for my money! ~HOWEVER~ Every single song played was played with the spirit of life that Kansas is known for! That may be part of the reason why I wanted more. lol I'm giving a special nod to the band for their performance of "Song for America." My God they kicked ass on that! Flawless. They really kicked ass on pretty much everything but that one really stood out. Very good guys, I hope you're proud! I was enjoyin the whole show too much to bother writing down the set list but if you're going to go see Kansas in concert, you're NOT going to be let down. They'll play enough of their stand-bys to satiate your appetite for some good old fashioned Kansas LIVE rock! Another thing worth mentioning: All 5 of the guys, Phil Ehart, Billy Greer, Dave Ragsdale, Rich Williams and Steve Walsh looked HAPPY. Yes, they looked positively happy! They looked like they were having fun, (even during a small equipment malfunction moment.) The crowd reacted to the band's positive attitude with exactly what "they" call "many happy returns!" I recommend that if you're about to see Kansas in concert to dig out every Kansas album that you've got and listen to them to "brush up" on your lyrics because you're going to want to sing along! In fact Billy Greer even gave a shout-out to those singing along because it pleases the band to see us singing along as much as it does us to see them singing at all!!

  • 35th Anniversary of Kansas

by ArmyNurse on 8/18/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 5 out of 5

The Show was great. Kansas sounded as good as they did 35 years ago. I got great seats and had a wonderful time.

  • Kansas at the Missouri State Fair

by Wayjorose on 8/17/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Kansas so many times I have lost count but they never disappoint me or get routine. The talent on that stage is amazing and the precision in which they play and the intensity of their music gives me goosebumps each time I hear them. I wish I could follow them around the country (or the world for that matter) and see them play again and again. Kansas is a band that if you don't "get it" you might not enjoy it as much. I am telling you I get it and I love it! The ONLY negative I will say is that failed to play my favorite live song "The Wall" - what is up with that????

  • Kansas was short and sweet!

by Chumley on 8/17/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 5 out of 5

I drove 3 hours from St. Louis to Sedalia to hear one of my favorite bands from when I was in high school play at the Missouri State Fair, and they didn't disappoint. This was my first Kansas concert. Kansas played many of their greatest including Carry On as their parting offering. I am partial to listening and enjoying a concert starting with a rock band's drummer's performance. Kansas drummer Phil Ehart is incredible. At one point in the concert, during one song, the band's music technician struggled on stage to hook up a cord to violen performer Dave Ragsdale's floor monitor and acknowledging defeat threw his coiled cord into the tech tent in disgust as he exited the stage. Kansas Bassist Billy Greer, who performed brilliantly last night, diplomatically acknowledged the tech's hard work to the concert crowd at the conclusion of the song to help lift his spirits. Very classy. I haven't been following what's been going on with the band but it seems there was a missing ingredient in their show, maybe another guitar? The only complaint I had was that the concert had to end so soon. Started at 7:30 pm and ended at 8:50 pm including the oncore. I paid $30 for my track seat 5 rows from the stage, $5 to get into the fair (after 5 pm) $5 for VIP parking, and $50 for gasoline for my truck on my round trip to St. Louis. All in all it was worth it. I love their music and they still sound great. The soaring guitar strains I was expecting were subdued a bit. I don't know if that was a mixing problem, because of where I was sitting, or they just were short one guitar.

  • Kansas still rocks

by rdhdiver on 8/17/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 4 out of 5

Kansas can still rock. They could have played a little longer. Another 20 minutes would have been nice.

  • Got to meet Kansas!!!

by Discdude on 8/17/09Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 5 out of 5

I have always been a huge fan of Kansas and this event was more than awesome. I had the "track" seats on the front stretch of the arena. Sitting about 12 rows from the stage right in front of the speaker stacks. My girlfriend and I got to our seats about a half hour before the show. I noticed a line of people by a trailer to meet the band. I asked if I could meet them. Little did I know it was the president of the fair. Of course my mentioning knowing other musicians that they knew and the police officers assuming I was the president of the fair's husband helped in getting me back there too. That was a hoot!!! I asked about the all Kansas concert including Kansas, Shooting Star and The Jeff Scheetz Band. It may not have sounded quite as organized a question as I was actually asking them. I was probably blabbering to them as I noticed some questioning shrugs like they had no idea what I meant. The manager of the band realized we were not supposed to be back there and asked us to go back to our seats, I got a kick out of it. The concert was excellent!! The fans were very appreciative. I was surprised seeing how many younger people attended. We were sitting by kids saying how some of the songs were 20 years before they were born. That was classic!! We live in Kansas not too far from Lawrence where the band originated.

  • KANSAS!

It as a GREAT concert! I would definetely recommend this concert to others
