About

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Dust in the Wind.' KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the '70's and '80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. 'Carry On Wayward Son' continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and 'Dust In the Wind' has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of "The Prelude Implicit," KANSAS's fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band's first studio album release in 16 years.

In 2020 KANSAS followed up "The Prelude Implicit" with the album "The Absence of Presence."

The band, which is currently comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, guitarist Scott Bernard, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, bassist/vocalist Dan McGowan, original guitarist Richard Williams, and original drummer Phil Ehart. Eric Holmquist performs on drums while Phil Ehart continues to recover from a major heart attack. KANSAS continues to energize audiences with their powerful live performances.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and popular culture. The band continues to reach a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence in various commercials, live sports broadcasts, popular video games Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto; the band's documentary film "KANSAS: Miracles Out of Nowhere," and a guest appearance on The CW's television show 'Walker.' The band's songs have also been included in various television shows such as 'Supernatural,' 'Reacher,' 'All Elite Wrestling,' 'South Park,' 'The Office,' and 'The Simpsons;' as well as blockbuster films including 'Old School,' 'The Suicide Squad,' 'Anchorman,' 'Pitch Perfect,' 'Happy Gilmore,' and 'Happy Gilmore 2.'

Great to hear Kansas again. A few hits played. No intro of band members. Not quite sure who all is original other than the obvious. Short concert Just OK

Have seen Kansas about 5 times over their career and they still have it! It was great to see them again; they are such great musicians! Thanks for a great evening!

  • KANSAS IS TIMELESS

by MONOLITH on 7/16/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Outstanding musicianship form the first to last note. One of the very best live bands performing on the planet. The opening act NATIVE WINDOW ... comprised of 4 out of 5 of the members of KANSAS.were outstanding as well. I srongly recommend this band to anyone who enjoys great music performed by seasoned veterans of Rock and Roll. Lastly I also wish to point out that this is the bands 35th anniversary tour and they have a DVD being released in SEPT showcasing the band with the bands hometown orchestra in Topeka Kansas.

  • Kansas at Chastain

by mcreynolds01 on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Very nice show, Kansas really lends itself to the Orchestra experience. Chastain is really about seat choice with rows 5-8 really being the best but not the most expensive. Good venue for a show like this.

  • Kansas concert was 'so so'

by lainga on 7/13/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

Not quite what I expected. ASO was actually the best part of the concert. As always, enjoyed my visit to Chastain . . . my favorite venue of all. Love the quaint atmosphere!

  • Kansas & ASO were awesome

by Toddchattanooga on 7/13/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was a really great pairing that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. Our only disappointment was that the crowd was really sparse, but it did allow us to spread out a little bit.

  • Kansas and the ASO - what a great combination!

by Martha on 7/13/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The weather was perfect on Friday night for the outdoor concert featuring Kansas and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. A surprising combination - the music of the two together was spectacular and the attendees were on their feet after every number. Though the chairs we sat in did not comfort like those in a symphony hall, the ambiance of being outdoors almost made up for it!

  • Great Music - wanted more

by Budrow on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I wanted them to keep playing for another hour. Some of the greatest musicians ever!

  • No Encore!

by Steelers1 on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

After seeing Kansas for the 13th time I can't believe they didn't play an encore. What they played was great. I've never been to a concert where an encore wasn't played. I also have never been to a concert where the audience didn't try and demand an encore. What's with the Atlanta crowd?

  • Great for all ages!

by Livie on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The combination with the symphony was fantastic! My 13 year old son loved it as much as I did!

  • They really fooled us:)

by Stargazer on 7/11/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

They sounded great, very entertaining! And accompanied with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra it was so awesome. Nice to see an older band still putting out great music. Can't believe that the opening act was 4 of the Kansas players. Native Window. And they never let on.... It wasn't until I came home and pulled up the website that I saw that they were going to surprise us.

  • Down to Earth and God Fearing

by Ironman87 on 7/11/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Timeless, Artistic, Rewarding, Humbling. Why did these guys wait so long to come back to Chastain? Oh, I guess they show up each year as another band. God Bless them All!

  • Not as great as I had hoped

by LadyPixieinGa on 7/11/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I was really looking forward to this concert. I LOVE their music. They were playing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra... the music sounded AMAZING. The problem I had with this concert was the vocals just arent what they used to be. They are getting older and the lead singer just doesnt have it anymore. He was emphasizing the words differently (I think because he couldnt hit the notes anymore) The violinist was AMAZING and definitely made the show. I did go out and buy an old CD in hoping to hear the sound that I remember and enjoy. They didnt play very long either. The show was over around 10:15 when the city ordinance and other concerts at that venue go till at least 10:45

  • Kansas Still Great after all these Years!

by MaryJane1960 on 7/11/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The band's music was spectacluar!! They aren't fantasic showmen on stage but they are all wonderful musicians. Then having the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the background just adds more depth. I would definitely go again if they came back to town.
