About

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Dust in the Wind.' KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the '70's and '80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. 'Carry On Wayward Son' continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and 'Dust In the Wind' has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of "The Prelude Implicit," KANSAS's fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band's first studio album release in 16 years.

In 2020 KANSAS followed up "The Prelude Implicit" with the album "The Absence of Presence."

The band, which is currently comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, guitarist Scott Bernard, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, bassist/vocalist Dan McGowan, original guitarist Richard Williams, and original drummer Phil Ehart. Eric Holmquist performs on drums while Phil Ehart continues to recover from a major heart attack. KANSAS continues to energize audiences with their powerful live performances.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and popular culture. The band continues to reach a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence in various commercials, live sports broadcasts, popular video games Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto; the band's documentary film "KANSAS: Miracles Out of Nowhere," and a guest appearance on The CW's television show 'Walker.' The band's songs have also been included in various television shows such as 'Supernatural,' 'Reacher,' 'All Elite Wrestling,' 'South Park,' 'The Office,' and 'The Simpsons;' as well as blockbuster films including 'Old School,' 'The Suicide Squad,' 'Anchorman,' 'Pitch Perfect,' 'Happy Gilmore,' and 'Happy Gilmore 2.'

Kansas rocks!! They jammed something crazy!! Great band!!

  • Kansas better every year

by paulrau on 12/5/09Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 5 out of 5

It is not an understatement to say that there are no modern bands out there that reach this level of musicianship and professionalism. When you see Kansas live, you understand why they have endured this long. Their music is a unique blend of rock sounds and classical composition and orchestration that they play to perfection. Steve Walsh is sounding better than he has in many years, I think thanks in no small part to Billy Greer handling many of the high harmonies so that Steve can save his voice for the lead vocals. Nothing has been lowered in key, and Steve does not shy away from the high notes that he sang 30-35 years ago. It was a treat to hear 4/5 of Kansas open for themselves as Native Window. They had some really good songs as well and sounded great, although I believe they sang along with pre-recorded backing vocals.

  • My first Kansas concert

by chuckierocks on 12/5/09Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 4 out of 5

Somehow, Kansas slipped through the cracks for me in the 70's. They were my girlfriend's first concert. Led Zep was my first. I thought Kansas did a real good job last night. The vocals were unmistakeable, the young violin player was a phenom, familiar harmonies were solid, a few scorching leads....... this concert made me wish I had seen them a few times before now. The crowd was definitely filled with knowledgeable Kansas freaks from back in the day, who voiced their appreciation throughout the show. I think the band seemed very appreciative of that. A few young folks, but mostly an older crowd. I'd see them again for sure.

  • Brought back a lot of great memories

  • Way better than I'd expected

by DoubleDog on 12/1/09Merced County Fair - MercedRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Kansas last summer at the little ol' Merced County Fair, and was pleasantly blown away ! This was way better than I'd expected. I've seen them twice before, years ago, so can it be possible that they're getting better with age? These guys are all top notch musicians, but that pales in comparison with the passion that they put into it. What great music, and a very enjoyable show.

  • Great 2 group concert!

    by DDawg425 on 11/30/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

Kansas and 3 Dog Night --- both groups can still play their music! My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the evening.

  • Powerful Kansas and Rockin' 3 Dog Night

by ReenyRae on 11/14/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Kansas' live performance was flawless. Riffs by violin, guitar and keyboards were tight and right on every time. Vocals were powerful. We enjoyed their concert even more than we imagined we would. 3 Dog Night played all their top songs. The audience was singing and moving to all their favorites. A good time was had by 'all.'

  • They might be older but they sound great!

    by Terber5 on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Kansas put on an amazing show. They sounded and played awesome. I didn't think anything could surpass them until 3 Dog Night came on. It sounded like I was back in the 70's. They didn't move as much but were very entertaining!

  • Two Fun Groups

by AgedRocker on 10/13/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

Kansas played first and sounded very good, but I didn't like their playlist as well as when I had seen them a couple years ago. Their choices didn't seem to go well together, and I was not familiar with most of them. Three Dog Night sounded outstanding, and just plain made the evening great. It was pretty amazing how well they sang, and the whole band just put on a great show. Their playlist was excellent, with only a song or two not included of what I had hoped to hear, but they did a blues number I had not heard before and blew us away! It'sthe first time I had seen them, but hopefully not the last.

  • The Still Have It!

    by wolverine3647 on 10/13/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

Even after all the years, Three Dog Night & Kansas still are terriffic. The music, the songs, the talented musicians, the showmen, both groups have it all. Hope to see them all again before they call it a career.

  • A BLAST FROM THE PAST

by dodsie on 10/12/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Both Kansas and Three Dog Night were great. They both played about ninety minutes. They were very "tight" not missing a note.Kansas being a bit of a newer band took my wife and I back to fun times but 3 dog really took us back!1 When they played " SPAIN"I thought my wife would cry.probably 'cause we kinda like The Beatles who they sing about.A very relaxed crowd enjoyed three hours of fun by for the mast part stayed in their seats and let the music come to them.JUST WONDERFUL !! Thanks to both bands.Tip of the hat to you both.

  • Both bands were awesome.

by jkellie on 10/12/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

I had a terrific time reliving the 70's with both bands. They haven't lost a step! We rocked the Emerald Queen. I would definetely see them again.

  • Kansas!!!!

    by francis419jn655 on 10/12/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Kansas put on a great show, and the crowd was totally pumped! I'm a huge fan, so I enjoyed it greatly. Three Dog Night was good. They had a cool rendition of Mama Told Me Not to Come. The crowd also loved them. I am younger, so I didn't know a number of their songs from the early 70s, but others seemed to know them. And of course both group gave encores of the best hits, Carry On Wayward Son and Joy to the World, respectively. Great show all in all. I would say the only negative is that Emerald Queen isn't the greatest venue. Thin chairs packed in a really large ballroom. I was in the 6th row almost in front of the band, so it was awesome, but I feel for those who are off to the sides furthur from the stage.

  • Three Dog Night was great!

    by Denny79 on 10/12/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Two life long friends and I went to see Three Dog Night and Kansas..They were both great. The violin player for Kansas was wonderful, as they all were. Great memories!

  • 3 Dog Night was fantastic!!!

    by oceangirl1 on 10/12/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

3 Dog Night put on a show that would have made any fan happy. They still sound good and really put on a great performance. Acoustics were done to perfection. On the other hand, Kansas would have been very good if they had performed at a much lower decible. They were so loud, they ruined the enjoyment of their superior instrumental skills. My ears still are ringing.

  • Bravo 3 Dog Night!!

by Bajabug on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first concert at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, very nice venue! And this was my first time seeing 3 Dog Night a concert I had wanted to attend several times before but was never able to make it happen, they were awesome!! I so enjoyed this concert, they sounded and looked great! All the songs I love were sung and then some, no disappointments. I had been to a Kansas concert before, many years ago, and even though I was mainly there to see 3 Dog Night, Kansas rocked! Both bands delivered a quality performance, thanks guys!!!!! Keep it up!

  • Kansas rocked !

by DrDog on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Both Kansas and 3 D-Night really rocked and put on a great show. The vocals for both were right on and Kansas rocked harder than I remember. This was a great venue to see a concert....not too big and good accoustics.... I would come back to watch them again.

  • KANSAS WAS FANTASTIC!

    by wilsonx4 on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Our 16 and 18-year-old sons sent us to Kansas and 3-Dog Night for a gift and Kansas was a completely unexpected gift! Their musical talents are so "tight" and perfected that they are a treat to watch and their performance on stage was delightful. It was fun to watch them perfom not only their older music that we grew up loving, but also newer music that we will go out and purchase when it is released this week so that we can share it with our boys! Their violonist is phenomenal and an absolute delight to watch!

  • 3 Dog Night and Kansas were amazing!!

by Delar on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

I would have given them five stars because the bands were awesome - fantastically talented. I would definitely recommend seeing them and I plan to see them again if possible. The reason I couldn't rate them as high as the bands really deserved was that the venue left something to be desired. There was no clear signage or directions to get to the show within the casino. Also, the video tech didn't seem to know who was doing a solo, sometimes showing a band member who wasn't even spot-lighted on the big screens. It was frustrating to see the big dark screen.

  • The old guys have still got it!

by mrstrat on 10/11/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

I've never been a fan of progressive rock, but the musicianship of Kansas was excellent. I've seen 3 Dog Night twice before (with Negron), and the old guys have still got it. I wish they could find the right song to put them at the top of the charts again, just as a contrast to the crap that passes for popular music today. Both groups are old guys who show that they've still got it and know how to make real music (you know, where people actually sing and play real instruments).
