About

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Dust in the Wind.' KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the '70's and '80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. 'Carry On Wayward Son' continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and 'Dust In the Wind' has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of "The Prelude Implicit," KANSAS's fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band's first studio album release in 16 years.

In 2020 KANSAS followed up "The Prelude Implicit" with the album "The Absence of Presence."

The band, which is currently comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, guitarist Scott Bernard, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, bassist/vocalist Dan McGowan, original guitarist Richard Williams, and original drummer Phil Ehart. Eric Holmquist performs on drums while Phil Ehart continues to recover from a major heart attack. KANSAS continues to energize audiences with their powerful live performances.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and popular culture. The band continues to reach a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence in various commercials, live sports broadcasts, popular video games Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto; the band's documentary film "KANSAS: Miracles Out of Nowhere," and a guest appearance on The CW's television show 'Walker.' The band's songs have also been included in various television shows such as 'Supernatural,' 'Reacher,' 'All Elite Wrestling,' 'South Park,' 'The Office,' and 'The Simpsons;' as well as blockbuster films including 'Old School,' 'The Suicide Squad,' 'Anchorman,' 'Pitch Perfect,' 'Happy Gilmore,' and 'Happy Gilmore 2.'

  • Kansas, still great

by Kirakir on 2/21/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

I can never get enough of this band, they are one of the best live shows around! And this show was long, and full of surprises. Amazing musicians all.

  • Toto, this can't be Kansas

by Jericho764aolcom on 2/21/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 2 out of 5

When the opening act is really the main act and you enjoy them you have to think things can only get better when they play the music you came for; but, sometimes that doesn't happen. This was one of those times. Native Window was good, good enough to want to investigate their recording; then they come back as Kansas and sound terrible. Good thing most of the audience is old enough that our hearing isn't so great anymore and our prostates weak enough that we run out every 30 minutes or so, otherwise this show would have been intolerable. The sound system just didn't work for the venue and the vocals weren't clear at all plus it seemed obvious there's two camps here, Steve Walsh on one side and the others on another side. Maybe it's time to ditch Kansas altogether and get Native.

The band rocked the house. The musicianship was outasight and the vocals did not disappoint. I've been a fan since the beginning and continue to be one. I gotta be honest, I'd see the same show tommorrow. Thanks for keeping it alive. They just don't make um like Kansas anymore

  • Kansas is still rockin

Proving that age is no obstacle. Kansas took the audience on a trip through their musical world. My family, and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. It was great to see that my family was not the only one in attendance. Many families, and young people were there as well. Timeless music from a great band. I will go to see them as long as they care to come to my area, and play!

Kansas - "At the ABSOLUTE TOP of Their Game". One of the BEST concerts I have seen in a long time. The Keswick, in Glenside, PA, was their first stop on the current tour. I saw them there last year, and loved it , but they were MUCH better this year. They ALL had a LOT of energy and shared it with us for almost two hours. Steve Walsh even jumped to the front stage and got from behind his keyboards, although he still didn't say much. Choice of songs was excellent - from many of their previous albums. Richard played MUCH more enthusiastically than he did last year! Of course Billy and David were EXCEPTIONAL! The biggest surprise was the opening act, "Native Spirit". I thought they couldn't make it because they were snowed out last week and rescheduled. At first I believed Kansas was opening without an opening act, like they did last year. In reality it was 4/5 of Kansas - minus Steve Walsh. I don't know if they had personality problems, or something else, but they played original music, which sounded great. Phil, the drummer, even commented how humble and thrilled they were to open for such a great band. He even said they met Kansas backstage - and they looked a lot older than he thought they would - a little sarcastically. In summary, it was a GREAT show and I'm glad I bought the DVD, "There's No Place Like Home" to relive the experience until I see them again!

  • KANSAS was simply AMAZING!!!!!

One of the best concerts I've ever been to. We traveled over 100 miles to see them, and would travel three times farther to see them again! They ROCK! I highly recommend seeing this awesome group. I guarantee you won't be sorry.

  • Still Know Place Like Home

by PhillyConcertVeteran on 2/20/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 3 out of 5

As a longtime Kansas fan who'd seen at least 5 of their biggest tours (including Leftoverture and Point of Know Return) and hadn't seen them in years, I wasn't too sure what we'd see at the Keswick last night. This is a band that always prided itself on how long the original lineup stayed together; there've been plenty of changes since and fewer members now. Although still musically in pretty fine shape with Phil Ehart's drums, Rich Williams' guitars and Steve Walsh's keyboards, I have to say their performance simply couldn't come close to what they'd been. Steve Walsh may have been ill last night but he just wasn't the dynamic & charismatic vocalist I knew, his voice wasn't clear in the mix and he seemed to have lost a bit vocally. Billy Greer is a fine musician and his vocals are good but longtime fans have to miss Robby Steinhardt. Which is no knock on the fine musicianship of David Ragsdale. One odd note was seeing the band play 'Fight Fire with Fire' given it was a John Elefante song from one of the albums missing Walsh. 'On the Other Side' used to be spectacular by Walsh but came up a bit short and 'Hold On' trailed off musically rather than with Walsh's signature crescendoing 'hold onnnnnn'. That being said, there were certainly some fine moments during the performance. Tracks like 'Song for America' and 'Magnum Opus' were well done. Icarus might have been the song of the night. Would have liked to have seen more of Leftoverture and Point but 'Magnum Opus', 'Miracles Out of Nowhere', 'Portrait (He Knew)' and of course 'Dust' and 'Carry On' (ending the show) were worthy entertainment for a winter's Friday night in Glenside.

  • Kansas Rocks the House

by Kansasfanforever on 2/20/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

As always, Kansas's musianship is unsurpassed and as someone who has been following them since 1975, I feel they are even better now than they were at the height of their commercial success. Having seen their phenonmenal symphony show in Trenton, NJ just a few months back in October, it was a nice contrast to just see the band. They sounded incredible (at least instrument wise), and played a slightly different set with a few songs pulled out of the vault (Mysteries and Mayem and Child of Innocence from the Masque album), including a song from 1989's In the Spirit of Things LP which they've never ever played live before (Stand Beside Me). The crowd was excited, energetic, and enthusiastic, as was the band. However, despte that, the show was too short. One of my long standing beefs with Kansas shows are their brevity (1 1/2 hrs., including encore). Obviously Billy Greer was not serious when he asked the crowd after about the third song if we minded whether they played a long set. Considering the feedback from the crowd, a longer set was definitely warranted. At least a second encore. Again, while the instrumentation was superb, the vocals, especially Steve Walsh's were not. Steve has had voice issues over the years and from what I heard last night, they must be back. At the symphony show in Trenton, he sounded amazing. However, last night, he stayed away from the high notes and even sounded off key at times. Even Billy Greer's harmony vocals sounded a bit off, but that could have been due to Steve being off. As a loyal, hard core fan, I left a little dissappointed. I think it's time for Kansas to put on at least two hour shows and really change their set list. After 35 years, I think they can take a break from Point of Know Return, Dust in the Wind, and Carry on My Wayward Son. Until they do, I think I'm going to take a break from seeing any more Kansas concerts.

Native Window opened for Kansas. Sound quality and pressure in the theater was the best I have experienced in a long time... kudos to the sound engineers. Kansas performed beyond my expectation. This is one of the few groups I would see again.

We saw Kansas last Friday at the Rialto Theatre in Joliet, Illinois. The venue was very nice. I have never been there before but It was a warm cozy theatre. The band was fantastic. They sounded just like their albums. Their voices were right on and reminded me of the old days. We had great seats and enjoyed the concert very much.

by PZuke on 12/5/09Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 4 out of 5

The band still sounded great after all these years. I saw them the first time 29 years ago and it was just as good now as it was then. I know it was not all the original members, but it was still a great show. With all the albums they have released it it tough to play all the songs that everyone wants to hear. They could have easily put on a 3 hour concert. If you love their music, then I recommend you see this show. You will not be disappointed.
