About

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Dust in the Wind.' KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the '70's and '80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. 'Carry On Wayward Son' continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and 'Dust In the Wind' has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of "The Prelude Implicit," KANSAS's fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band's first studio album release in 16 years.

In 2020 KANSAS followed up "The Prelude Implicit" with the album "The Absence of Presence."

The band, which is currently comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, guitarist Scott Bernard, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, bassist/vocalist Dan McGowan, original guitarist Richard Williams, and original drummer Phil Ehart. Eric Holmquist performs on drums while Phil Ehart continues to recover from a major heart attack. KANSAS continues to energize audiences with their powerful live performances.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and popular culture. The band continues to reach a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence in various commercials, live sports broadcasts, popular video games Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto; the band's documentary film "KANSAS: Miracles Out of Nowhere," and a guest appearance on The CW's television show 'Walker.' The band's songs have also been included in various television shows such as 'Supernatural,' 'Reacher,' 'All Elite Wrestling,' 'South Park,' 'The Office,' and 'The Simpsons;' as well as blockbuster films including 'Old School,' 'The Suicide Squad,' 'Anchorman,' 'Pitch Perfect,' 'Happy Gilmore,' and 'Happy Gilmore 2.'

I see a lot of older bands - Dickey Betts, Hot Tuna, Marshall Tucker, The Outlaws, Yes, Johnny Winter, etc., who are a lot more professional, better rehearsed, play for a lot longer, entertain the crowd a lot more, and sound a lot better. Drummer Phil Ehart was still great, that's the highlight. Bottom line is that Steve Walsh can't sing like he used to - by a lot. They also played for barely an hour for tickets that cost over $80 - a ripoff. For a band that used to pride itself on not "selling out", this is clearly a "money" tour. The last time I saw Dickey Betts, by comparison, he played for over 3 hours, played his butt off, sang great, played some new stuff, was organized and well-rehearsed, had an energetic band, really touched the audience, and I paid $50 to see him. And he's like 65 years old! Kansas is not up to this tour. Sorry. I went out to see a local band afterward at a bar in the NYC suburbs and spent $5 to see a lot better show.

  • Kansas gave a great performance

Listening to this band's instrumentals was really something special. This group continues to have great talent. My only problem with the concert was that the words of the songs get drowned out by the music sometimes.

Well it was the first time I ever saw a band be thier own opening act. They came out as Native Window, all of Kansas minus Steve, and did a set. Most poeple were wondering what was going on because there was no initial explaination. After a short intermission the full band took the stage and just rocked! They have barely lost a beat or a note. It was a powerfull show in a small venue. I think Kansas should be the next band to play half-time at the Superbowl, bringing an American band back to this American event.

Great show! Steve Walsh had more energy than show 20 months ago. Not enough up beat songs, but loved every one. All songs seemed tobe played at a slower beat than album recordings.

  • I'd Forgotten How Great They Are.

The original date was snowed out. I almost didn't go to the rescheduled concert. What a mistake that would have been. Kansas has long been one of my favorite groups. I know their music from repeated listening since 1975...my first Kansas concert. I've seen them over 20 times. This was an excellent show. Musically they have refined their craft to the point of no return. They seemed really into their performance. I will definitely see them again next time they are around.

Should really think about getting original bandmates back. Don't particularly like the current violinist and the lyricist changes. They miss Robbie + Kerry big time. Very stale without. Miss that stage presence Robbie gave the band. Would not recommend or see them again myself

The last time I saw Kansas was in the early '80s in Oakland, CA at one of the late, great Bill Graham's legendary "Day on the Green" concerts at the Oakland Coliseum. Kansas was one of the headliners included in a line-up of about six or seven top bands, drawing about 50,000 people that day. I remember that they sounded terrific back then...with Steve Walsh doing a handstand on the keyboard. Well, Steve didn't do a handstand for the show at the Bergan PAC, and his voice isn't that of a young man anymore...but you know what? He can still hit the high notes pretty darned well after 35 years in the business...and Kansas still sounds terrific. They've "lost nothing off the old fastball," as they say. The band was tight, had good energy, and played from 8 until 10:40 (with a 30 minute intermission after this "unknown band from Georgia", aka, Kansas without Walsh for a set, played great tunes from its Native Window CD). Would I go see them again after Saturday night's show? Absolutely. If you liked them in the 70s and 80s, you should not be worried about seeing them in 2010.

Great songs...tight band...pretty good sound/mixing. Of course we are all getting older, so the lead vocs just aren't there anymore.

  • Great Show

by RickDrummer2 on 2/22/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Kansas was as tight as ever... Steve Walsh's voice is a shadow of what it was... though i missed Robbie's presence on stage, but Billy Greer fills in admirably on vocals and David Ragsdale is awesome on violin. The overall sound of the band was good. GREAT warm up band !!! Boy, were most people surprised to see the guys return as Kansas... Rock on Native Window !!!

  • Kansas delivers again

by Winjules99 on 2/22/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Another great show by an underrated band that always performs well live. Featuring many original members including lead vocalist Steve Walsh, they play the big hits, the classic album cuts, and a mix of fan favorites. They give it their all every night and their musicianship is flawless. See them while you can.

  • Fantastic!

It was great seeing these guys as I hadn't seen them in years, but hope to when they come around again. All in all, a 10 out of 10, the opening act (side project:), was great also.

  • Kansas brought back many memories

    by Potable1 on 2/22/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

Music was great, band was spot on and Phil Ehart beat the skins like a 20 year old. Yeah, Steve Walsh's voice was pretty much shot, but the rest of the music was vintage Kansas. Now that us 50 year olds are re-living our high school years, what better way to remember those times than with the musicians who played the background music of those days. The Keswick is a great place for music!

  • Way Back Tour?

by TomCat913 on 2/22/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 3 out of 5

Kansas is one of the great bands of the 70's & 80's. Although they were able to crank out the familiar tunes, their chemistry was clearly not as it was. The mixing was not professional, Not sure if the acoustics of the venue was to blame, or if it was self inflicted.

  • Kansas concert was everything I hoped for!

by winemaven on 2/21/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Phenomenal concert. Only wish they had played "The Wall", but they covered almost every song I wanted to hear. Great start to the concert when they posed as the opening act wearing average clothes and played on a simple set of instruments. Funniest part was when they played a tribute song to the band that inspired them (ha, ha....Kansas) and Kansas' lead singer came out to sing back-up!

  • Still got it!

They've been around 30+ years and still rock! Also I've never seen a band that actually opens...for themselves? 4 of the 5 members of Kansas billed themselves as "Native Window" and played a 30 minute opening set. Good warmup - I'd have to listen to more before I could get into it. When "Kansas" came on they played some classic hits plus dug up some old but still great stuff! The seating at the venue is a bit cramped but the show made up for that. I'd see them again if they played MSG.
