About

K FLAY IN CONCERT:

Rising female rapper K Flay is not your everyday hip hop hopeful. The self-taught producer and songstress is a tomboy and a Stanford alum -- two things you don't see every day often among the reigning pack of racy female MCs -- and her music is just as unique thanks to her effortless ability to move from singing to rapping and back again. She built a devoted regional following in the mid-'00s with a series of self-released mixtapes, and in 2014 she took her sound to the masses with her debut album Life As A Dog. At her live shows K Flay approaches catchy tracks like "Make Me Fade" and "The Cops" with the ease and confidence fans have come to love from her recordings, delivering a laid-back and entirely original hip hop concert experience that blends the best of rap, rock, and electronic music.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

K Flay, aka Kristine Meredith Flaherty, was born in the bucolic Chicago suburb of Wilmette, Illinois, where she was raised by a musical family. After high school she moved to California to attend Stanford University, and during her freshman year there she experienced two life-altering events. The first was receiving news that her father -- a music lover and skilled guitarist -- had passed away unexpectedly. The second was the creation of her first rap track "Blingity Blang Blang", a parody song that she made to amuse her friends. The gag led to the realization that she liked writing music, and by year's end she had written several more songs as a tribute to her father. She taught herself to produce tracks on the computer and began performing live, and in her junior year she made her debut as K Flay with the mixtape Suburban Rap Queen. She followed up in 2009 with the Mashed Potatoes mixtape, and in 2010 she dropped the K Flay EP. Two more solid EPs and extensive regional touring followed in the early '10s, and in 2014 she made her official studio debut with the album Life As A Dog. The record peaked at No. 2 on the Heatseekers chart and No. 14 on the Rap chart, receiving praise from critics and earning her a national fanbase. Following the record's release K Flay proved herself the real deal with a string of self-assured performances on tour, leaving little doubt in fans' minds that she's got big things on the horizon.

Caroot opened with great music. Their lead singer/musician is very talented. GFlip is totally awesome! They rocked so hard! I would have liked more from them. K Flay is just indescribable. Her vocals, her lyrics, her guitar playing, are all so majestic. Kristine is a force to be reckoned with.

    Amazing experience

by Chrissy Cat on 2/19/229:30 CLUB - Washington

K Flay was amazing! The 9:30 club is such a nice venue! I love that they open their doors at a decent time and start the festivities at a decent time as well. I was able to easily locate all the groups that would be performing and their expected times to start. I can't express how much I appreciate that!! I have been to other shows and venues where you have no idea how many groups will be performing with no general idea of a time frame. Thank you to all the amazing acts and to 9:30 club for being awesome!! I cant wait to go to my next show at 9:30!!!

    Amazing As Always

by Stelle on 2/19/229:30 CLUB - Washington

This was my 3rd time seeing K Flay. She always puts on an amazing show with very high energy. Both opening acts this year were female and strong and different. I always feel comfortable at a K Flay show, so easy to make friends. I dragged two coworkers along & they also had such an awesome time. As long as K Flay makes music, I’ll attend her concerts.

    WOW!!! SUCH a FUN concert!

by c. on 12/11/19The Pageant - St Louis

I am new to K.flay's work. I had only heard one of her songs before buying tickets. I originally only bought them to see Meg Myers who was amazing and it was a dream come true for me to get to see her live. I highly recommend seeing her perform. She doesnt just sing and play music, she puts so much raw emotion into her songs you can FEEL the song. Its a unique experience that you dont get from many artists. We had balcony seats which I dont recommend at The Pageant unless you want to just sit there. We wandered down to the general admission area and were told we were free to go anywhere we wanted around there so we went down in the pit area by the stage. SO MUCH BETTER! We had so much fun rocking out with K.Flay. She has so much energy and while I only knew a couple of her songs I loved every minute if it. I havent stopped listening to her work since and will definitely be stage front when she comes back. She and her band are so talented! If you dont know her music, but want to have a good time, just GO! You will become a fan I guarentee it!

    Meg Myers is always fantastic...

by Ross on 12/7/19The Pageant - St Louis

Meg Myers' show was a little more laid-back than other times I've seen her... I like the songs where she really belts-out the lyrics that are always so great. She mentioned that she wasn't feeling well that night so she may have held back a bit... still enjoyable to see her. We stayed for K-Flay but I'm not into her stuff much... she had great enthusiasm and her fans were really into it.

    BEST CONCERT EVER!!!

by Lels2012 on 10/15/19Fillmore Auditorium (Denver) - Denver

This was my third K. Flay headlining show, and fourth time seeing her perform. Every time it gets better and better (even though it's always been phenomenal). They are my favorite performer, artist, musician literally EVER! I am a K. Flay super fan and I highly highly recommend this show to anyone who likes to go ham bone and RAAAGGEEE at a live show. K. flay is such a rock star and I mean that in every way. I am highly considering ditching everything and just becoming a groupie for them (this show in Denver really solidified that for me this time around). I can't wait to see what's in the future for their career! Hopefully I will see them again soon!

Great artist but venue could do better

by nmg on 10/12/19The Wiltern - Los Angeles

There were sound problems starting from the beginning of the concert: first for both artists who were opening. It was so bad at some point that after almost every song the artist was leaving the stage to talk to “sound” staff. It is disrespectful to both the artist and the audience to do so bad job. I was at the concert for the same tour but in another city a month ago and can see a Huge difference regarding the quality of sound. So The Wiltern really needs to improve...! Otherwise, K.Flay is amazing and her show is really great.

K.Flay rocks, not the best openers

by bc9210 on 10/3/19The Fillmore Charlotte presented by Cricket Wireless - Charlotte

K.Flay rocks, not the best openers though. Your Smith seemed to be lip syncing a bit and Houses was a little awkward. Just didn't seem to match the genre of K.Flay.
