About

JULY TALK IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie outfit July Talk is quickly rising the ranks with their blues-meets-pop sound and the engaging vocal interplay of dual lead singers Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay. Dreimanis' husky growl is the perfect counterpoint to Fay's demure purr, and the duo play up the he-said-she-said drama with tongue-in-cheek lyrical bickering and amicable play-fighting on stage. Whether they're sending each other up on "Paper Girl" or rocking hard on "Summer Dress", the dynamic pair are the perfect front to the band's potent blend of indie, pop, and good old fashioned rock and roll.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

July Talk formed in Toronto in 2012 after smoky-voiced musician Peter Dreimanis overheard the angelic Leah Fay singing in a bar. She instantly became his muse, and together they assembled a band that complemented their strikingly different singing styles. July Talk released their self-titled debut album that same year, impressing critics with their robust blues-inspired sound and the playful vocal exchange of Dreimanis and Fay. In 2013 the band toured with big-name acts like Weezer and Tegan and Sara, wowing audiences with their vibrant energy and showmanship. Additional performances at festivals like Rock the Park London and the Toronto Urban Roots Festival helped cement their reputation as a must-see live act, setting big expectations for their sophomore album and accompanying tour.

    Great Show but

by Dean on 4/11/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Love July Talk, but they played too many songs from the new album. It may be great but like a lot of bands promoting new songs seems more important than the fan experience.

    Canadian Music's Best Kept Secret

by Chris Beck on 4/9/23Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

July Talk is a unique high energy bad who are even better live than their excellent recorded music. Peter Dreimanis' raspy Joe Cockerish voice pairs perfectly with Leah Fay's higher pitched tones. They have a unique style, high energy and a great sound. I expect this band to ascend up the charts to stardom. Loved the show.

Don't sleep on Juoy Talk. They are incredible live. Everyone should see them. I have now had the pleasure twice at the Burt and both shows blew my mind.

Best show ive been to in a while!

by Beans on 4/8/23Coors Event Centre - Saskatoon

Seriously, this band sounds exactly how they sound in their songs. I know sometimes it gets distorted due to moving around and what not. But these guys knew how to rock without sounding off in their music. They acknowledged being on treaty 6 territory which made me proud as i am Indigenous. They acknowledged the LGBTQ+ community and i love that so much! You can clearly tell this band makes music that they love and feel to their bones. And their voices are phenomenal! I thank you so much for such a good musical experience. You have no idea how much i needed that! The day before my birthday too, hells ya. Rock on!

by Kenny on 4/2/23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Absolutely amazing show in a beautiful venue. I’m sorry n a wheelchair and was moved to the front of the line so that I could find the perfect seat to be able to watch the show with out any issues. Looking forward to my next show at this same location.

    Better lighting on the stage

by BrendaLM on 4/2/23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Love July Talk! I think this is the second time I left this same comment for a show at the Commodore, the lighting on the stage is lacking in that the band is playing in the shadows and you can’t really see them. It’s too bad because these two are very expressive and their stage presence is why they should be seen live but sadly, not at the Commodore. I look forward to the next outdoor venue for live music just due to better lighting.

    Great show and venue

by Fergie on 4/1/23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The staff was great they saw I had a cane and ushered me in past the line to the elevator and escorted us right to our table which we reserved. Had great service throughout the whole concert. The opening act was pretty cool kind of a mix of Rush, Greta Van Fleet and maybe even something else I can’t put a name to. I loved July Talk period!! The way they interact on stage just flows and I noticed little things that they do to make the vocals and music come together that you don’t see when you just listen to them on the radio. I was very impressed and would definitely see July Talk again and also return to the venue.

    What a performance!!!

by Reno on 3/16/23Massey Hall - Toronto

This is my second time seeing July Talk and they did not disappoint! It is truly quite a show. The musical talent and the energy is amazing. Between their on stage actions and their awesome videos playing in the back you really get a full experience. With ticket prices being so crazy lately, there aren't too many bands I will pay to see (especially if I have already have) but they are worth the ticket prices. Highly recommend!

I just wanted to hear some good music

by Lreud on 3/16/23Massey Hall - Toronto

Low-tech setup and a touch short, but the music was tight and the sound was great, which is really what matters! Massey Hall is a great venue. However, the intermittent opining between songs about social responsibilities really detracted from the experience for me. Leah and friends are of course entitled to their opinions and to use their platform to spout them, but I just came for the music.

    Very Disappointed

by MsCali on 3/14/23Massey Hall - Toronto

I attended the July Talk concert at Massey Hall in Toronto with my brother. This was to be a special night after a few years of hell between the pandemic and dealing with major health issues. Suffice to say we came away very disappointed and let down. Why go to see July Talk if not for the fabulous unique voices. SHAME we couldn't hear them once the band, specifically the drums, entered the song. We kept hoping the sound crew would resolve it but song after song , we were left straining to even get a snatch of vocals. So disheartening!!!!

    Local Gold!

by Steph on 3/14/23Massey Hall - Toronto

Everything about July Talk is genuine and sincere. Great energy - fabulous! Sound was very good at Massey Hall, but seats not good with low ceiling obstructing view. However, it didn’t matter - still awesome.
