Host and opener were both really great and Josh had me rolling. If you get a chance to see Josh Johnson, don't hesitate.
Josh is very funny, but also thoughtful and self effacing. Not only do you laugh, but you do a bit of self refection as well. Saw him as an opening act for Trevor Noah and wanted to see him again.
Josh Johnson is a busy guy. From Daily Show to opening for Trevor Noah to stand up specials and comedy albums and podcasts... if you want to, you can hear a lot from Josh. But if you really want to get his take on whatever is on his mind, catch up at a show at a venue like the Punchline Philly. The Punchline Philly hosts are typically funny. Josh Johnson had a special opener: Logan Nielsen. Logan brings higher energy laughter at his observations on life in the mid-west. Josh's storytelling keeps the laughs rolling. He does a little crowd work but never the aggressive, insult style of comedy that kills the vibe. He's funny, extremely witty and you need to see him now before he gets to the level of Noah, Chapelle and Hart.
The opener, host, and headliner were amazing! The problems were with the venue. For some reason, ticket master scan code via the phone app was not scanning upon arrival at the entrance. I also spent significantly more to be seated at a table for two in the front area of the venue, but the venue sat folks as they wished. We ended up being seated at a table for four with all tables/seating sardined in the general admission area. (Keep in mind, the Delta variant is running rampant.) It was not ideal considering I paid more for secluded seating away from general admission and closer to the stage. It's unlikely that I would return to any show held at the venue.
Was forced to sit at the bar chairs in the back of the room. No biggie, if they weren’t steel prison chairs. Both our backs were locked up for the rest of the night. Performers where too damn rehearsed to be acting like there were just spitting off the top of their heads… own it. Last guy was screaming into the mic in a room small wnough and quiet enough he could have done just fine w/o a PA system… all around very soft/small body energy with a generous helping of trying too damn hard.
I am a big fan of Josh Johnson, but his live performance was even better than my expectations. The venue, parking and service was great. After the show Josh along with the other comedians came out to the bar and was available for fans. Was a nice bonus to get the opportunity to say hello
