  • Colorful but not exactly a dream!

    by b4grits on 6/29/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I had never seen this play before but am very familiar with the entire Joseph story from my Sunday School days. I thought the sets were interesting, the costumes colorful, the childrens' chorus was tops, but...........the lead female singer was difficult to understand and her voice was too sharp and quite coarse. Also, the percussion in the orchestra was overpowering the rest of the orchestra sounds. I thought the artist portraying Joseph had a great voice and stage presence and I enjoyed the voice and animation of the Pharoah character. I had heard so many good things about this play, so I was a bit disappointed overall. Perhaps with some different performers and a more subtle percussion it would live up to its reputation.

  • The Amazing Joseph

    by Kaisor55 on 6/29/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

What can I say, but it is another Andrew Lloyd Webber hit. The music was up beat and a foot tapper. There were no dull moments in the play. The brothers were awesome! Recommended for all ages!

  • wonderful entertainment

We both enjoyed this production together with the great performance of the entertainers and the childrens supporting roles.

The kids were great, but I could not understand what the narrator was saying. If I didn't already know the story, I would not have known what was going on.

  • Thought "Joesph/Dreamcoat" was average...

by Gatorlove on 6/28/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

My husband, two daughters, and I went to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat recently. We thought it was fair and we left unimpressed . We have absolutely loved all the previous shows at the Fox Theater and thought this show would be just as "amazing". It was not. They seemed to rush through the story and, at the same time, spend too much time with repetitive songs and lyrics. Much of the words to the songs were garbled and unclear. We could not figure out what was being said and we were not very far back from the stage, lower (orchestra) level. We were also disappointed that there was no acting in the play...almost entirely singing. We would have liked to see some more acting and less songs. To summarize, I wish we had not spent the money to see this show.

  • Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

by MaryBethel on 6/28/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

The Fox was great! The show was okay. There were some good parts and some not so good parts. The orchestra was too loud at times, especially the drums. I was in the balcony, so I wasn't really close to the orchestra, but still had trouble hearing the performers sometimes. The mics cut out a couple of times. I wouldn't have noticed it so much if it wouldn't have cut out on Joseph's "Close Every Door". It took away from the climax of the song. A real downer. The good. Joseph was Amazing! He has an awesome voice. The kids did a great job on their parts as well.

  • An absolute delight

by lovemycatslady on 6/28/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I have wanted to see "Joseph" for some time. I found the entire production delightful. The actors/singers were all amazing. I particularly enjoyed the many styles of music. It was such a treat to see how Weber worked all the styles into the plot.

  • Amazing show!

Very high energy. Kept you wondering what music style they would employ next. Wonderful singing and acting.

  • Joseph was very good.

by GoldieGirl on 6/28/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

Enjoyed the event with three grandchildren. I think that fewer children on the stage would have been better. Overall, it was very good. We had seen it on Broadway and once before at the Fox.

  • Good but lacked life

    by musical2000 on 6/28/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

The performance was ok overall. I enjoy seeing Joseph. Anthony seems very stiff. He sang great but the acting feel short. I also didn't like the liberties with the story in that they made it seem like Joseph and Potapher's wife " hooked up". Hopefully the lack of life/dragginess was due to the being the first performance. Good luck with the future shows and thanks.

  • Joseph/Dreamcoat was terrific!

by BAHS on 6/27/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The cast was amazingly talented, the production was fantastic, it was truly a pleasure to see Andrew Lloyd Weber's first musical for the first time. It's a classic story of family dynamics, deception, failure, tragedy and the ultimate realization of success despite all of the obstacles standing in the way of one's dreams. I invited my 11-year-old granddaughter to see the production with me, and she was equally impressed. She actually "got it" - decided she had to go home and read her Bible for the inspirational story. Suggestion: When the actors came out for the curtain call, it was difficult to recognize who was which character without costumes (especially Jacob). Perhaps the actors could come out with partial costumes on, then shed them to reveal themselves? The only disappointment: Parking. I pre-purchased a parking ticket, assuming it was for the lot right next to the Fox (I have a handicap). However, my ticket was for the Red Lot a block+ away. The Yellow Lot attendant was kind enough to allow me to park there anyway. What a blessing that was! He should be commended! Many thanks for a memorable production!

  • Amateur effort

by Namastmom on 6/27/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

Really expected more for what we paid. The scenery was worse than a high school production; the talent was hit or miss. The audio was terrible - couldn't understand the words. The narrator - who supposedly had performed this play with Donny Osmond at some point - had a sharp, grating voice. This was the first professional theater performance I took my daughter to and she picked up on all I mentioned - we both left disappointed.

  • Joseph's Coat was Great but Hard to Hear

by mcwkl on 6/27/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

We saw the first Saturday matinee presentation. The production was terrific and music was great but the microphones were turned up too loud and you couldn't understand the words to the songs that they were singing PLUS the orchestra was overpowering the singers. I think they need to work on the sound, other than that, great show.

  • Joseph in Atlanta

    by atlanta100 on 6/27/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Overall cast was very talented. Joseph could use some more ooompf to his singing. When he needed to hit notes - he definitely did, but the small notes count just as much. As always - the ensemble did a great job!

  • Not what it used to be

by djlak on 6/27/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

We saw this play in London in 1992. And Loved it. The current version shown at TOTS at the Fox, is a mere shadow of the original. It was difficult to hear or understand most of the individual singers - and normally the sound/acoustics at the Fox are top grade. I feel the producers of this show have even modified the show a bit from the original - when Potifer's wife made the advances on Joseph it was way more suggestive and revealing than either the Bible, or the 1992 London version. And my young granddaughters did not need to be exposed to that "Poetic License" that the current rendition seemed to take. On top of that, there was no mention of God anywhere this time. Perhaps a bit too politically correct? Overall I felt this show was not a good value for the price. Many others may have felt the same as there were only 1100 tickets sold for the Friday evening performance we attended.

  • Joseph is a must see!

by Travelswithwife on 6/27/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Everyone needs to see this at some point in their life. Classic musical comedy. This production was great.

  • Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Coat was amazing

by SarGeo on 6/27/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I attended with my daughter and granddaughter and it was the first visit for both of them. They were overjoyed with the beauty of the Fox and the performance of the stars in Joseph. My granddaughter asked before we even exited when we were coming again!!
