About

John Pinette has been entertaining audiences around the world in a variety of ways for over twenty years, but it is making people laugh that John enjoys most of all. When asked to describe his stand-up, John Pinette says, "I talk about my life, it is the funniest thing I can think of. For some reason, people enjoy seeing me lose by cherub like demeanor".  John was named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards in 1999 and received a Gemini Award nomination for his superb televised performance at The Montreal Comedy Festival in 2000. His hit Comedy Central Special and DVD entitled "I'm Starvin'" was released in January of 2007 as a follow up to his enormously successful CD ‘Show Me The Buffet'.

Born just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, John has always had a gift for making people laugh. When he learned that he could actually make a living doing so, John left behind his life as an accountant and began his comedy career.  It wasn't long before he was touring comedy clubs around the country. Shortly thereafter, John got his big break when he was asked to tour with Frank Sinatra.  Since then he has made multiple guest stand-up comedy appearances on television shows such as The Tonight Show, The Dr. Phil Show, and The View.

John has also enjoyed a long acting career in television, film, and stage. He starred on Broadway playing the role of ‘Edna Turnblad' in the hit musical ‘Hairspray' and has appeared in such films as Duets, starring Gwenyth Paltrow, Dear God, starring Greg Kinnear, Junior, starring Arnold Schwarzeneger and The Punisher starring John Travolta. He was a series regular on the hit series Parker Lewis Can't Lose, and starred as the car-jack victim in the final episode of Seinfeld.  John is currently filming The Last Godfather starring opposite Harvey Keitel.

I've seen John Pinette live 3 times. The first 2 times, he was awesome! Having previously listened to his stand-ups on a CD, I was really excited the first 2 times! But, with him losing all that weight, it looked like it affected his strength. He had to sit down for the whole show. He wasn't as on point as he normally had been in the past. I hope he goes back to his original material.

    Good Show.

    by Jakee10 on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

I was a little disappointed with the show . It was obvious he has some health problems and maybe that contributed to what seemed like a fractured show. There never seemed tobe the non stop laughter the usually goes with a John Pinette show. Over all a good show.

John Pinette at the Wilbur Theater

by TheJayMan on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Have seen John 3 times in person. This was another good show. Mixed in plenty of new material, including his gout - which kept him seated for the entire performance. "You go now" marked his exit and was appreciated by the SRO crowd in attendance.

John Pinette at the Wilbur Theater in Boston

by tdcdrums on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

His major weight loss made him look tired and older than his fifty years. Now that he's lost much weight his routine didn't revolve as much around food and eating. He still used the catch phrases that made him popular and he has definately re-defined his act as a result of his journey. Still a great performance and we would see him again in a second.

sadly I was disappointed. I love John Pinette, and perhaps the other shows were better but I think by the last show things had taken a toll on him. He was visibly exhausted and seemed to struggle to get through his act. He was wearing slippers and sat the entire perofrmance. Though his jokes in and of themselves were funny, they lacked his usual "umpf" and enthusiasm. He did not look well, pale and a bit shaky. I was more concerned than entertained.

    John is not healthy

by RoundChili on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

A bit surprised and disappointed by Friday's show. John appeared frail, unhealthy and weak. He said he had gout. Googling, it looks like he has been through a lot this last year. Still a funny show, good Pinette humor, but more recycling of old material. This also notable as we saw John maybe 1-2 years ago, and he specifically avoided re-using his old material. I realize that these shows are book a year or so in advance an no one can know how someone will be a year from now however. Still enjoyed the show, but just not really what I expected. His energy level was way down. I found a video of him online in an interview from 20 Nov., and while he still didn't look healthy, he energy was way up, like usual. Something was not good this weekend. Thoughts and prayers to John for a recovery however, at the end of the day, it is not about a show, but about a human life. I hope he recovers and continues to make us laugh.

A John Pinette Fan - felt bad

by BuzzcatandZuzu on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

John was ill and had Gout so he had to sit down in a chair for the whole show. He was funny andhis personality showed through to me a big fan familiar with his work. But, I think he wasn't comfortable and running at about a quarter of his normal act speed and it showed. Newcomers to John Pinette had reason to be unimpressed unfortunately. He should've postponed.

    Meh

    by christina543425 on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

John PInette was like an ornery grandfather sitting in a chair in the middle of the stage and telling stories. We were so excited to see him and traveled 3 hours to the show. My husband and I were both really disappointed. Much funnier on CD. He looked unwell and needed to keep drinking water to hydrate which messed up his comedic timing. I think he should have postponed his tour until he was well enough to give 100%.

    John Pinette

Good thing I know how funny John is. Wasn't on his game Friday night. We all know he isn't well but it did show in his performance. We all wish John good health and a return to his robust self.

    John Pinette should have cancelled/postponed

    by Benny77 on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

John Pinette was really, really disappointing. My favorite comedian since I was a boy, but he showed up in slippers with gout, and his stand-up was sit down. Second, his voice sounded like his was getting over/still had a bad cold, so his impressions/voices were terrible. Third, he's from Boston, and we ended up seated with a portion of his family. They were really obnoxious the entire time. Tack on the $18 drinks, and it didn't feel like money well spent. I might try him again, but if he's in the condition he was in on Friday, I wish he'd just give me my money back instead.

    John Pinette was a disappointment

    by pieguy10 on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

John Pinette did not seem to have his act together when I saw him on Friday. His act had some of the laughs from his on-line performances but in general he seemed a little flat. He was suffering from a bout of gout and that may have been a contributing factor

Failing in health and forever funny

by newtongirl on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

John is now a shadow of his DVD performances, his face is shallow and he can barely walk, which this case was due to gout (get better soon, John!). But he comes across tired. Some of the punch lines were lost in delivery as if his air had run out mid-sentence. Some of the classic jokes were kinda there, but as fragments from the past. I laughed until my belly hurt, but at the same time, the performance wasn't quite what I expected.

Pinette has lost more than weight.

by ballbagness on 12/9/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

The opening act was good. He had the crowd interested and engaged, then the headliner John Pinette willed himself to his stage chair. All his jokes were his old material from his last few CD's combined. His immobility and lack of animation he once had put the audience to sleep. As he said he's been on stage for 27years, it's about time he sits down permanently in retirement.

The four of us laughed until we thought we could not laugh anymore, only to find ourselves laughing again for 90 minutes. I love John Pinette.

    John Pinette

by Lindatea11 on 11/7/13St. George Theatre - Staten Island

While John Pinette was enjoyable enough, it would have been a thousand times better if we could have heard him without straining to hear every word throughout his routine. Forget hearing his warm up, he was virtually impossible to hear. The St. George Theater, while historical and beautiful, needs to get with the times and install speakers in the top mezzanine or stop selling tix to that section. I felt it was an unmemorable waste of time and money.

    Fans Forever!

by Madge26 on 11/7/13Shubert Theater - New Haven

This probably was the 5th time we have seen John Pinette so there were a few repeat skits. However, we laughed as hard if not harder than the first time we saw him. Will see him again and again! We took two of our friends who never saw John before, never even heard of him. They are now fans for life! Thank you John!
