John Pinette has been entertaining audiences around the world in a variety of ways for over twenty years, but it is making people laugh that John enjoys most of all. When asked to describe his stand-up, John Pinette says, "I talk about my life, it is the funniest thing I can think of. For some reason, people enjoy seeing me lose by cherub like demeanor". John was named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards in 1999 and received a Gemini Award nomination for his superb televised performance at The Montreal Comedy Festival in 2000. His hit Comedy Central Special and DVD entitled "I'm Starvin'" was released in January of 2007 as a follow up to his enormously successful CD ‘Show Me The Buffet'.
Born just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, John has always had a gift for making people laugh. When he learned that he could actually make a living doing so, John left behind his life as an accountant and began his comedy career. It wasn't long before he was touring comedy clubs around the country. Shortly thereafter, John got his big break when he was asked to tour with Frank Sinatra. Since then he has made multiple guest stand-up comedy appearances on television shows such as The Tonight Show, The Dr. Phil Show, and The View.
John has also enjoyed a long acting career in television, film, and stage. He starred on Broadway playing the role of ‘Edna Turnblad' in the hit musical ‘Hairspray' and has appeared in such films as Duets, starring Gwenyth Paltrow, Dear God, starring Greg Kinnear, Junior, starring Arnold Schwarzeneger and The Punisher starring John Travolta. He was a series regular on the hit series Parker Lewis Can't Lose, and starred as the car-jack victim in the final episode of Seinfeld. John is currently filming The Last Godfather starring opposite Harvey Keitel.
Amazingly funny, best ever. He is one of a kind. Would see him again and again.
The venue was poor... auditorium seating, general admission. Very hard to see. John was seated the whole time, likely due to health conditions, which is understandable, but much of his humor and delivery is based on facial expression which was hard to see with all seats being same level, no large monitors to compensate, and the stage was not high enough to compensate. The humor may deserve a better grade if it were in a better setting, but not much.... The show ended up dragging.... The venue itself was poor for the type of show and what needed to be delivered was not possible effectively.
The show was great - the opening act was funny as well! The only problem I had was being able to see John. He was suffering from the gout and had to sit through the whole performance. Maybe if they had gotten him a high stool to sit on it would have been better. It didn't matter about the seats we had paid for - it was general seating.
My family and I have been quite the big fans of John Pinette for a few years now after watching his "I'm Starvin'" tour on DVD. His show had us all in laughs and loved the new material.
The show was amazing! Even though he wasn't feeling well be was wonderful!
John Pinette was very funny (as always) but it was obvious that he was not feeling well, But he pushed through and gave us a great show.
OK, he's a brand new John Pinette but he's still the funniest guy you can ever see!!!
In all honesty, John Pinette appeared rather sickly. I know he has lost a lot of weight, but I hope nothing else is wrong. His voice was difficult to hear at times (a person issue, not a sound issue). Still very funny!
great show from start to finish ... John was PHENOMINAL
Show somewhat entertaining. Some material was previously used in a recent tv interview. Vulgar language used; would have been better without it. Also, Pinette's voice was hoarse and it was a hard to understand him.
Was very much looking forward to this. Have seen JP before - very funny. Saturday night he was so ill looking that it was distracting.
For the most part, I thought the show was excellent however, I brought my 13 year old with me and didn't appreciate the F word and a few other words. I have his CD and have seen him on Netflex and there wasn't any of that. It wasn't often but wish it wasn't used at all. John's material was very funny though and will definitely see him again but may not bring my 13 year old.
Was more impressed with the opening act and the fact that John had lost 200lbs. Was a nice night out but I wouldn't go see John again.
We have seen John a number if times at different places and really enjoyed his shows. We were very disappointed with this show. We picked our seats on line and chose to be in the balcony in the center of the stage because my husband has a hearing problem. When we got there we were told our seats were upgraded to the messianism because the balcony was closed. When we got to our seats we were no longer in the center but were now to the left of the stage and my husband had a hard time hearing. It was obvious John was not feeling well, he had laryngitis and the gout. He sat through the whole show and did not appear to be as sharp as usual. Maybe he should have cancelled the show. For the cost of the tickets (100 per couple) it was very disappointing.
John did deliver on a few jokes but overall he seemed quite sick. He sat on a chair and I felt he couldn't interact with the crowd the same way (lacked a bit of enthusiasm). I don't hold it against him, I hope he recovers fast and bounces back, but in the meantime he might be better off resting.
I've seen John Pinette 4 other times and have raved about him,.. This time however, he didn't deliver. We brought 3 other couples with us who had never seen John perform and at the end they wanted to know what all the hipe was about! They were disappointed as well. Apparently John has been in some pain lately and with his loss of weight he just looked uncomfortable on stage... Almost like he didn't want to be there. Don't get me wrong.. He tried, really hard to deliver, but it just wasn't there. He looked tired, acted tired, and his voice was horse. John needs a nice vacation to recover and get better so he can get back to his funny self and look like he's enjoying doing it! If you do go see John in the next few weeks, be prepared for a different John. I hope he feels better soon.
He was just ok. I have seen him at different times over the years. This time was a disappointment. He had none of his earlier energy. Just sat in a chair and rambled on. If I had known how he had changed I would never have spent the money to go see him.
Extremely funny! The show was good clean fun! An event for the entire family!
I am a big John Pinette fan. I have listened to him on comedy radio stations for a while. I've saw him in concert a year ago and thought he was hilarious. However, this night, he seemed like a totally different person. I know he was suffering from gout, but his whole demeanor was off. His material, which used to focus around his weight, has changed now since he lost a lot of weight. His voice was very grainy and hard to understand at times. He seemed like he aged a lot in the past year. His cherub-like demeanor and his material seemed somewhat all over the place. I hope this performance concerns were a result of his gout. He was funny at times, but not consistently like in the past. I thought the comic who was on before him (I think it was Dave Smith) was hilarious and enjoyed his performance much more. Sorry John ... hope things improve for future performances.
If you are sick take a sabbatical leave and take care of yourself. I went to see the vibrant John Pinette. Your energies are contagious and instead all I saw was a comedian who did the whole act sitting down.
