John Petrucci on Tour

Legendary, metal behemoth and guitar virtuoso are all appropriate ways to describe the incredibly talented John Petrucci. Best known as the guitarist and founding member of Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment, Petrucci also has had a successful solo career. Being a veteran of Joe Satriani's G3 tours, he is headlining his first solo tour in the fall 2022, making 16 stops across the United States and Canada. Petrucci will be accompanied by his band featuring Dave LaRue on bass and Mike Portnoy on drums, as well as the group Meanstreak for the duration of his tour. Petrucci's live performances combine face-melting riffs and world-renowned technical prowess on guitar, his ability to manipulate sound while reinventing progressive metal is a must-see. Petrucci first emerged onto the music scene as a founding member of Majesty in 1986 (later changing their name to Dream Theater in 1987). Dream Theater has produced a number of hit albums over their tenure, including When Dream and Day Unite (1989), Images and Words (1992), Awake (1994), A Change of Seasons (1995), Falling Into Infinity (1997), Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999), Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002), Train of Thought (2003), Octavarium (2005), Systematic Chaos (2007), Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009), A Dramatic Turn of Events (2011), Dream Theater (2013), The Astonishing (2016), and Distance Over Time (2019). If that wasn't enough, Petrucci's other band Liquid Tension Experiment released Liquid Tension Experiment 1 (1998), Liquid Tension Experiment 2 (1999) and Liquid Tension Experiment 3 (2021), as well as his solo projects, Suspended Animation (2005) and Terminal Velocity (2020).

John Petrucci Live in Concert

Born in Kings Park, New Jersey, in 1967, Petrucci started playing guitar at 12 years old and was influenced by acts such as Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Rush, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. It was at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he met bassist John Myung and drummer Mike Portnoy to form the core of what would become Dream Theater. Petrucci and his bands have won countless accolades throughout their 30-plus years of performing, including the Best Metal Performance GRAMMY win for their 2021 song "The Alien," three GRAMMY nominations, numerous gold and platinum CD and DVD sales, the No. 1 position on Rolling Stone's Your Favorite Prog Rock Album Of All Time for Metropolis Pt. 2, International Band of the Year Award at the 2019 Progressive Music Awards in London, and many more. Petrucci has also been on the cover of Guitar World magazine twice, once in 2019 and once in 2021.

    Incredible Show

by Kayvon on 11/11/22Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

I hadn't been to the Palace of Fine Arts since the late 90s when I was a kid, and my dad would take me to see Persian concerts there, so I was thrilled to learn that John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, and Dave LaRue would be performing there this past Monday evening 11/7. The show was fantastic all around, Meanstreak opened and did a great job getting the crowd warmed up, and then John, Mike and Dave hit the stage for over an hour. It was awesome to see John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy sharing the stage together once again. I firmly believe that Mike belongs back in the band he and John started over 30 years ago, Dream Theater. There is a special chemistry that Mike and John have together that cannot be ignored. I'm very grateful that I had the chance to see this show, and I hope to see them play together again sometime in the future. There are a ton of dates left on this tour, so if you are a fan of Dream Theater or any of the many bands Mike Portnoy has played with over the years, buy a ticket and enjoy!

    Best concert I've been to

by Coufu on 11/10/22Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

I love Dream Theater and I love John Petrucci. Mike Portnoy and David Larue absolutely killed it if there was any doubt. I hadn't heard any Meanstreak music prior to coming to the concert, but they were really fun! If you like prog rock and shredding, don't miss this concert.

My favorite prog rock show of all time

by Miles Teg on 11/10/22Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

I'd go to this show every night if I could. You already know what John/Dave/Mike are capable of (they delivered the outstanding performance you'd expect), but the extra personality really made the event special - playing the Freebird solo on the outro of Glasgow Kiss, joking about SF cable cars and Rice-A-Roni, Mike tossing drum sticks back and forth with his tech. I hadn't realized this is John's first tour headlining as a solo guitarist, or the first tour since 2010 where he and Mike have played together. Above all, the opening act of Meanstreak with John Myung on bass was phenomenal. Their first tour in 28 years was a trip back to the days of Motley Crue and Iron Maiden; it was impossible not to headbang and the closer of a wild thrash metal solo by Rena Sands Petrucci was unforgettable. I can't believe I almost missed this (thanks Youtube algorithm for showing me one of their early shows on the East Coast) and hope all fellow Dream Theater fans check it out!

by Mitzie on 11/8/22House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

    Life changing experience

by Chester Rivera on 11/8/22House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

John Petrucci’s show was beyond what a few words can express. Super talented guitarist and humble person, he interacted with the crowd the entire night and so did The rest of the band. Their performance was impeccable, perfect and overwhelming. Loved the fact that Meanstreak was also present interacting with the people smiling and preforming with so much excellence. Location and venue were PERFECT, very good selection of drinks, security was on point, parking was excellent!

One of the best concerts I have ever seen

by LtDan on 11/8/22House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

I have been going to shows since the 1970s and I have seen a lot of acts. John Petrucci gave one of the best performances I have ever seen. It is a challenge to hold an audience's attention with instrumental guitar music, but John achieved that and more. With front row seats, I got to see in detail how amazingly talented he is. What a joy it was to see him playing with Mike Portnoy again and Dave LaRue on bass was incredible. Not much left of this tour, but I highly recommend catching him if you can and I hope he will do this again!
