About

A multi-faceted performer and Emmy Award winner, John Leguizamo has established a career that defies categorization. With boundless and visceral creativity, his work in film, theatre, television, and literature covers a variety of genres, continually threatening to create a few of its own.

In March, Leguizamo debuted his 5th HBO solo special, Ghetto Klown, which follows in the unabashed, uncensored, and uninhibited tradition of Leguizamo’s Mambo Mouth, Spic-O-Rama, Freak, and Sexaholix… a Love Story.

In 2013, Leguizamo starred in Fugly, opposite Rosie Perez and Rhada Mitchell, which he also wrote and produced. Fugly follows Leguizamo’s character, a New York comedian, whose near death experience forces him to make difficult life choices.

    Could not stop laughing

by Rosie93 on 11/17/14Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

There was one guy who would not laugh at all no matter what John would say but he looked stuck up so go figure. Overall John gave a thorough background of Latin culture in a very humorous way. It was an enjoyable night and he had the crowd laughing. At the end John received a standing ovation for his hilarious and wonderful performance, a must see.

JOHN LEGUIZAMO IS AMAZING, I HOPE HE KNOWS THIS!

by LOTTO1 on 9/22/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I love John Leguizamo's amazing talent, of which he has many. His peformance had me with so many mixed emotions: much laughter (he is so funny) & sadness about his upbringing. I hope he knows he is loved by so many & has helped people through his talent. Loved his props and stage presence. Great show!

John Leguizamo put on a true performance, that depicted his life. It was deep, inspiring and sometimes a little sad but he stood true of who he was growing up and the man that he is now. He kept it real and that you must admire and appreciate especially in Hollywood. Great Job Pa' keep being you and doing what you do best!!

    Leguizamo Talents Shine (Again)

by agandia on 9/18/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

He really is one of the most talented performers in the entertainment industry. John Leguizamo reminds me of the late great Robin Williams with his manic energy, voices and improvisational skills. The show is funny and poignant and I was so happy to see people of different races and ethics enjoying the show.

    Energetically irreverent!

by Jaszmin on 9/17/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I've been watching HBO specials and dvds for years so I thought that it would be the same thing but it's not. The energy that he gives off along with the energy of the crowd made this an amazing experience. John Leguizamo pulls out all the stops and leaves it all on the stage. It is just a well thought out production. From the stage props to the progression of the story, it seems as though everything was very well organized and thought through. Yet it didn't feel like a scripted show where he was just going through the movements. It didn't seem like an overly produced or rehearsed production. I would see this again if I could.

    Funny

by Lanakane on 9/17/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

John Legz was funny. I love the fact he's a story teller, not just some funny punch line guy. His stories are interesting and hilarious. However, I thought it was too long.

by angeal on 9/16/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Always admired him for his versatility in range of performances especially romeo and juliet. But having the opportunity to see him reveal a part of himself in his true comedic fashion was great! I can't wait to see him in future performances!

John "Legs" Great! ... Chicago Theater Not Great.

by DDBOY on 9/16/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

John L.'s performance was terrific ... even though I saw most of the Ghetto Klown, one man performance on TV. He is a talented, smart performer and writer. We really enjoyed his performance! However, the seats (row T, $70+) were terrible. Issues included: - Seats were next to doorway into seating area ... when opened heard sounds from outside theater and shining light - Virtual "revolving door" of audience members entering / leaving the show on a regular basis. What's that about? Can't anyone stay seated for 90 minutes? - Audience members coming late (30 minutes late!) to the show ... again revolving door syndrome. Here is a my comment on alcohol. John L.'s terrific performance was interrupted several times by audience members, obviously impacted by alcohol ... yelling / slurring out "we love you John" or "yeah" during key, poignant points in his performance. John L. even made a few comments about the out-of-place reaction of the inebriated audience members. Alcohol may be okay for rock bands / stand up comedy, but I suggest limiting / eliminating alcohol for theatrical performances. Not a prude, just someone that enjoys great performances without alcohol induced shout outs. Related: some audience members seemed to think of his performance as stand up comedy vs. what it actually was ... one man theatrical performance. Bottom Line ... great, talented performer / writer ... not-so-great seats and audience reactions.

John Leguizamo puts an awesome and hilarious spin on the trials that he went through in his life. While he is an amazing and talented celebrity, he is totally down to earth and relatable. Loved all of his past comedy acts, and loved this one even more. Keep up the good work, John!!

    John Leguizamo

by MARCEJ on 9/16/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Been to several John Leguizamo events in the past and enjoyed them before. However, it seemed like it was the same life/family story, just in a different format. If you've never seen JL before I would say it is worthwhile but if you have, save your money. Same story different outline.

    Good

by burbubicha on 9/16/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

It looks like he has done this show so many times he is tired of performing it. The jokes were funny, his performance was a little week.

    Great for hispanic audiences only.

by Anonymous on 9/16/14The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

As talented as John is, this show needs a lot of work. He was on stage for 2 hours, was repetitive and often draggy. It could be tightened to 90 min. tops. Also, some jokes and dialogue were in Spanish which was appropriate to the largely Hispanic audience but not us. We got a few chuckles but overall the show was not worth the cost of 6 tickets and 2+ hours of a Saturday night.
