About

John Cusack’s breakout role came as a member of the geek squad in John Hughes’ Sixteen Candles (1984). That film propelled the actor, producer and screenwriter into the role of the iconic, boombox-bumping Lloyd Dober in Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything (1989). In the ’90s and ’00s, Cusack's Hollywood star continued to rise with roles like the hitman in 1997’s Grosse Pointe Blank and the list-obsessed record store owner in High Fidelity (2000), which earned Cusack a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. Whether starring in action movies or fantasy comedies, Cusack has remained relatable and charmingly eccentric. It’s this same energy that he brings to “An Evening with John Cusack,” which features the actor touring the country and screening the films that have made him one of Gen X’s favorite actors.

    Only Ok

by Jackie on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The sound of the movie wasn’t great. Audience questions dumb. Could have been better if they had someone actually interviewing him and asking interesting questions.

Great movie followed by a 30 minute Q&A with John Cusack

by Vegas Josh on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

People asked John questions about all of the different movies John was in, the different characters he played, different films he directed, and questions about his favorite films, characters, roles, etc. John was very gracious and honest in his responses and told some fun stories about experiences in his career, people and projects that he enjoyed working on and had a lot of fun.

    Cusack was engaging

by Finickus T on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Enjoyed the Q&A with John Cusack. My only complaint was that the audio for the movie was awful...muddy low end and no treble. I could barely understand the dialogue. At that price it should have been mixed to sound great in the theater.

    Say Anything

by Dr D on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Apparently you can Say Anything to John Cusack. Not only was it an amazing experience to watch the cinematic gem, Say Anything in a movie theater on the big screen but to have it hosted by John Cusack and followed by a meet n greet was something I would have never even dreamed possible. He was kind, so polite, and his dark sense of humor made him even more lovable. I hope to do this experience again with another of his movies. XOXO

John was lovely but format left much to be desired

by VL on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

This was a gift from my husband and I was looking forward to it. I thought it would be a viewing of the movie with commentary from John Cusak and then maybe a moderated discussion with some questions from the audience after. Instead, it was just watching the entire movie and then an audience Q and A. John was absolutely lovely and gracious but the audience questions were just kind of boring. I would've liked to hear more from John and had a host lead a good discussion or have questions pre-submitted and the best ones chosen.

Amazing night, but not as well-executed as previous events..

by hlc324 on 6/27/23Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

As a fan of John for 40+ years, I always jump at the chance to attend these screenings with VIP experience. This one was my fourth in 5 years & my friends & I did NOT have the same experience this time nor feel we got our money's worth... The front row was literally against the tall stage which made it uncomfortable to see the screen, including badly-placed on-stage speakers completely blocking view for certain seats, as well as making interaction with John during Q&A very difficult. The VIP experience was fraught with frustration: unlike previous experiences, there was hardly opportunity to meet, much less speak with John (being rushed through the queue like cattle even though there were less than 20 photos taken); the photo was also ruined by a plexiglass divider to separate guests from John, despite lack of comms relating to Covid protocols being needed/in place (we have since spoken with photographer to confirm that use of plexi & lack of flash photography were changed/mandated last-minute by the venue & neither his nor John's idea) - made for awkward & less-than-ideal photos. Given the price & expectations of the overall event, the promoter/venue really needs to do better! I will strongly consider participation/purchase of future events that are hosted by Live Nation versus the previous Backlot Project team.

    Great Q&A, But…

by Tman5172 on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

So the Q&A was great, the venue was great. But the meet and greet was expensive for the experience you got. No where in my listing did it say photos would be socially distanced, I understand this though, but would have influenced my decision. Also at. $150 price point and only about 40 or so people in the que, an autograph would have been nice for those that brought things to sign. Also, would have been nice to know that autographs were not available, this also would have influenced my decision making process. The socially distanced photo op was not worth the $150 price point.

    A Little Lack Luster

by MJ on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The movie SayAnythong on the Music Hall big screen was a fun event. Accoustics in the music hall have always been an ussue, and this was apparent during the screening. Audience response enhansed the movie. When John Cusack came on stage, he was wearing very casual clothing including a hat that shadowed his face to the point you couldn't see him. Question and answers were more of a forced event for Mr. Cusack and left us uninspired. He was finny at times, yet seemed to just be going through the motions. He left promptly after 30 minutes.

fun idea but venue had horrible sound + other issues

by Stephanie on 6/27/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

I LOVE this concept of filmmakers touring with iconic movies and talking about the making of them. Unfortunately, it was as if the production of this was run by beginners so it did not go so well. The venue's sound was positively awful for screening a film. We were in the balcony and there was an echo causing all the dialogue to be muddy and mostly not understandable. During the Q&A, instead of John Cusack and the host projected behind them, it was a promo for the event and a still of the movie. And, again, horrible sound quality. It was difficult to understand most of what was being said. On top of the sound quality, John continuously put his hand sort of "over his mouth in front of the mic" making the sound even more muffled. A long line of people queued up to ask him questions but the questions were not vetted and mostly inane, not about the film, or just irrelevant fan gushing. We left after getting the giggles at some of the preposterous questions. Say Anything is a great movie, though! Even better when you can hear all of the dialogue! And I hope more filmmakers do this (in venues created for movie screenings with a production team adept at these types of events) - a really fun concept.

    Ok, but not great, experience

by Leon on 6/26/23Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

The Q&A after 16 candles was a little odd and pretty much isolated one half of the audience. John was quirky (to be expected) about not really having any input on movies and admitted he hasn’t really watched them. The most odd part was the “Meet and Greet” which was just a photo op. No conversation and you had to take a picture with you on one side and John on the other side of a big glass/plastic partition as to not be too close to a fan when taking a picture. Not sure if that was the venues decision or John’s but it was super weird nonetheless. If you paid extra for the “VIP Meet and Greet” prepare to be let down a bit. Hopefully it’s better than the Fort Worth show. Maybe he didn’t want to catch conservative coodies or something.

    Screening of 16 Candles

by CLR on 6/26/23Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

Great to see the movie again, forgot how funny it was. The Q&A with John Cusack afterwards was pretty boring. He’s not a very personable guy and doesn’t really relate well to his audience. Plus he seemed to have zero recollection of being in that movie as he has no idea what people were asking him

    John Cusack

by Lo on 6/26/23Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

The special showing of 16 candles was awesome. When it came time for the Q/A they should have had people write their questions and turn them in, rather than drunk people asking questions. Also at the end of the showing a GIANT RAT decided to run through the auditorium under everyone’s feet. The venue was great and we could see very well.

    Fun Screening with Great Q&A

by Blank Q. Slate on 6/26/23Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

We really enjoyed our Evening with John Cusack at Will Rogers Auditorium. Film screening was fun, and we're very impressed that John gave honest and thoughtful responses to myriad questions from virtually every audience member who got in line. Some of the questions were from "Left Field", and John handled even the most bizarre inquiries with grace and poise. Most celebrities would have pre-loaded questions or not taken questions with no advance knowledge - John hung in there and showed his "everyman" side by just sitting and talking. Great show! We encourage Live Nation to host more events like this! We would love to see John Cusack and other "Gross Pointe Blank" stars like Dan Ackroyd, Minnie Driver, Jeremy Piven, etc. host Q&A after a screening!

    Awesome experience

by Don Wiggins on 6/26/23Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

He was very humble and answered quite a few questions from the audience.
