Cleese & Idle - Simply Amazing!

by Lunaden on 10/25/15Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

This was a dream come true for me. The show was seamless, using live sketches, video, monologue & live music. I never thought I'd be able to sing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" with Eric Idle and John Cleese. Having front row center seating did not hurt either! Bucket list item - CHECKED OFF! Loved it.

    Excellent!

by SWGA on 10/25/15Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Highly entertaining, fabulously funny. A mix of reminiscing, skits and video that kept me laughing for almost three hours. John Cleese and Eric Idle are truly legends of British comedy. Although I am familiar with their work in Monty Python and after, it was fun to hear about the early years when they just met. It was an extremely enjoyable evening.

    Brilliant evening with comedy genii!

by Bristolpj on 10/24/15Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

A great evening all round, with Cleese and Idle in relaxed top form, reminiscing about the past, playing clips from shows and films in which they had been involved, even performing a couple of sketches. Each had his own solo spot as well. Obviously a pity that it was only the 2 of them from the Python team but that did not detract from the evening. Wonderful!

    Disappointing

by GardenGirl77 on 10/24/15Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

We were disappointed in this show. Although we didn't know exactly how the show woud be styled, we didn't expect what we got. I enjoyed the film highlights of the funniest skits from their careers. However, as I watched I realized I had paid alot of money to basically sit and watch something I could see on TV. Then the guys sat in armchairs and basically shot the breeze with each other telling us about their careers and throwing out names. Not much of that was funny. There were two short skits that were good. At intermission, we chose to leave the show. So very disappointing!

    What a disappointment!

by davis997 on 10/24/15Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

We went expecting a night of Monty Python comedy. What we saw was a talk show with film clips that every Python fan has on DVD. There were no revelations or back stage anecdotes that aren't already in every book on the Pythons or included in DVD extras. In short this show was so boring that we left at the intermission, and judging from the activity in the parking garage there were many others leaving too. It seems that Cleese and Idle are just capitalizing on their celebrity and didn't take the time to actually craft a show worthy of the ticket price.

    Only Nostalgia

by ProfessorMoss on 10/22/15Cobb Energy Center - Atlanta

I rather like John Cleese and Eric Idle and I was expecting to enjoy this show. But there is very little new material in this show; they mostly showed Monty Python clips on a little screen and attempted to ruin surrealistic gags by explaining them ad nauseam. They acted out a few skits, which was okay, but so much of it was lame "Dad Jokes". It got cringeworthy when they started telling ethnic, sexist, and homophobic jokes. Like, gay panic jokes I heard from my scoutmaster 25 years ago! But the audience ate it up; they were pretty content to see these fellows present a joke they had already seen a hundred times. It was a little funny when Cleese and Idle blasted the Republican field and Trump in particular. But they lost much of the audience - I guess no one told them that Atlanta has tons of Republicans! Given how brilliant Cleese and Idle are, I don't know what prompted them to do this tour. They certainly have NOTHING new to say.

    Let down

by Anonymous on 10/8/13Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

It was not what I was expecting from this comedy legend. If you want to see an old british guy deliver a powerpoint presentation (i.e. read from prompter and play video clips) for two hours, then this is your show. Personally, as a fan and someone who paid $90, I have no desire to watch clips I've seen a hundred times over and watch him unenthusiastically read from a prompter. It felt like an introductory course in John Cleese, when all the students already had their doctorate.

    John Cleese

by Anonymous on 10/7/13Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

John Cleese is one of my top comedy idols and so it was very special to see him perform live. I found it a little straining to hear him because he often spoke in a low voice.

    Cleese still has it!

What a wonderful evening - thoroughly enjoyed being entertained by a great comedic writer/actor. Venue wasn't the greatest - railing was in the way on the mezzanine.

    An amazing show!

by ConandoL on 10/1/13Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

John Cleese among other things is an amazing storyteller. I took my father who is the world's biggest Monty Python fan, and we heard him speak about his favourite times as an entertainer. Extremely memorable, so glad we went.

    A thoroughly enjoyable evening

by Chadley on 10/1/13Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

I wasn't sure what to expect with a "one-man" show by John Cleese but it was a very enjoyable evening. He is a very engaging speaker and all the clips from shows and movies brought back memories of other enjoyable times. He told many stories from working with the other Monty Python members, earlier shows and working on films, which told a lot without really revealing a lot of personal information - entertaining but not getting into gossip. The one thing that might added to the evening would have been a Q & A. I had never been in the Winter Garden theatre and it is a hidden gem, though quite a climb to get up there.

    John Cleese is simply Brilliant

by Jericho916 on 9/29/13Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

John Cleese is one of the most interesting people I've ever seen. Everything from his life story, to his brilliant writing and acting in Fawlty Towers, Monty Pathon and so much more. Had a wonderful time hearing his story's, and reliving his life with him through his memories and photos he shared. Would adore to have lunch with him one day just to hear more. Great show, nice venue. (Heck of a lot of stairs though). Enjoyed every minute of his show.
