Great evening with a couple of comedy masters

by PEdwards17 on 11/2/15Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

The members of Monty Python are comic geniuses, in my humble opinion. To be able to spend the evening with a couple of them as they chatted about their origins, and the origins of Python, was a treat. I was curious as to what the evening would bring because Cleese and Idle didn't do very many sketches together on the tv show. The whole evening couldn't be made up of sketches, so we got a behind-the-scenes look at their process and some insight as to how Monty Python came about. And some jokes, too.

    A Fantastic Show

by MagicDave56 on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

This show will demonstrate why these two men are legends in comedy. If you remember the Flying Circus at all, or any of the Monty Python Pictures, These guys will have the memories flooding back into your mind. If you have the opportunity to attend this show by all means do so. You will NOT be disappointed.

    A night to remember

by dragnrider83 on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

This was a night to remember! My husband and I have both grown up watching and admiring the Monty Python crew since we were kids, so this was a real treat. We were not sure what to expect of Cleese and Idle, and they surely delivered an excellent show. From rare footage to skits to stories, the 3 hours just flew by. We would HIGHLY recommend this show!

Witness to Legends of Brittish Comedy

by GoValGal on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Excellent show overall! These 2 comedians are truly geniuses in their own right. The clips were very groundbreaking and many were moments before I was even born. So it was interesting to go back and visit those early days. The stage was an interesting set up with two chairs on an area rug with an end table in between, like they were sitting in your livingroom. That would have been great had we been on the orchestra floor near the front, but we were up in the front of the Grand Tier and it was difficult to truly see them. I wish they had used the close-up monitors like they did with the last comedian we came to see in this venue. Sometimes it is details like the facial expressions that get people tickled. They had interesting stories to talk about, but there were times they seemed to ramble and probably only the true Python fans understood what they were saying. But all in all it was a great evening and we were so glad we attended!

    Totally enjoyable!

by Claptonophile on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I have been a great fan of Monty Python and the other work of its members for the majority of my life. Seeing these two gentleman give their stories and reminiscences and do skits together was absolutely wonderful. It brought back so many fabulous memories. They told stories, sang, shared some of their favorite routines, and even danced a bit. Not bad for a 73& 76 your old team. Totally worth the time and the money to be so entertained by these two.

John Cleese & Eric Idle: Together Again At Last...

by Anonymous on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

This was very funny. It was great to hear how all the members of Monty Python met and how Johns and Eric's paths kept crossing. It was also great to hear the stories behind some of their favorite sketches. Would have loved to see more skits and hear if they entire group plans to tour the US. Would have loved another hour from John and Eric.

    Awesome show!

by NCBlueJay on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Loved the experience. Python fans will not be disappointed. Cleese and Idle make you a part of the show by teasing and misdirecting you. Lots of revisiting of everyone's favorite moments. Idle sings your favorite songs. They act out a few of their most underrated sketches and possibly some they never got to do. Would love to see them do it again next year!

Great show. - my face hurt from laughing!

by JSbo on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

One part talk, one part standup, and one part variety skits and music. What a unique and great show. Anybody who enjoys Monty Python will grin and laugh all the way through.

This was a wonderful, nostalgic, bawdy night of entertainment. If you enjoy Python, this is a must see.

Never thought this would happen, and what a show.

by Python4ever on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I've been a Monty Python fan for more than thirty years. I don't know how many times I've watched the show and the movies, but they never fail to make me laugh. So how can I resist seeing Cleese and Idle when they came to Durham only several days ago. For one thing, they are my two favorite Pythons. Plus, when will they ever be another chance to see these guys live? The show was great. They told stories. They performed skits (what was special was that they did skits from before their Python days, the one about the bookstore is every bit as funny as the Dead Parrot or Bavarian Lumberjack skits), And let's not forget the hilariously off color ditties that Idle is know to sing. When it was over I wondered, "did this really happen"? These guys are comedy legends who are still at their game. So when is Queen Elizabeth going to knight them? I can't possibly imagine the reaction if that was to happen.

    Genius at work

by NoTea4u on 11/1/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I laughed so much my face hurt. The show was a mixture of film clips (some rare), favorite routines, silly songs and singalongs, jokes, and reminiscences. Even the Q&A at the end was funny.

    Very forgettable format

by EdwardsMountainMan on 10/31/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I'm not really certain what my expectations were of this show - but whatever it was, that vision had no semblance of the performance we were given. Essentially, this show consists of a couple of icons of comedy providing a collection of clips, performances and stories detailing the history of their storied careers. What it was not was a knee slapping evening of comedic material. Nothing was new. Nothing represented fresh material. Some people may enjoy this walk down memory lane with two of people who created the memories - it wasn't what I expected and I didn't find it particularly entertaining. I don't want to create the impression that anything that was done was done poorly. I was simply disappointed by the content and structure.

Python memories, but why get into politics?

by twoputt on 10/31/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

It was really great hearing about all the funny Monty Python history and sketches. John Cleese truly disappointed me when he made political comments. I felt it was something that was beneath him.

    Great fun with Pythons

by DancingBear1957 on 10/31/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Really liked the format, a mix of nostalgic conversation, improv, sketches, videos, and music. Took you back to the beginnings of their relationship in college, and the various paths the Pythons took before becoming Monty Python. Great sing-a-longs, classic video clips, and fun sketches.
