About

Best known for his powerful guitar licks, Joe Walsh has entertained the masses and captivated his peers for more than three decades with such classics as “Funk #49,” “Walk Away,” “Life’s Been Good,” and “Ordinary Average Guy.” In 1969 Walsh found success with The James Gang, followed by a stint with Barnstorm, a trio he founded.  In 1973 Joe released his first solo album, which proved him a legitimate solo act with a limitless career on the horizon. By 1975 he joined The Eagles, bringing a harder rock sound to the group with the acclaimed Hotel California, The Long Run and Eagles Live.

In 1994, after a 14-year hiatus and several solo albums, The Eagles released Hell Freezes Over, which reached #1 on the Billboard charts and sparked one of the most successful tours in music history. And in 1998 The Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the first year they were nominated. Walsh performed at the 2012 Grammy’s with Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl and at the 2012 MusiCares event honoring Paul McCartney. That June Walsh released Analog Man, his first solo album in 20 years, performing solo shows around the world to support it throughout that year. In 2013 the award winning The History of The Eagles showcased at Sundance, the two part authorized documentary, and in February it aired on Showtime. In conjunction with the April release onto DVD the Eagles began their extensive The History of The Eagles World Tour. On February 9 2014 Walsh was featured in several songs on the CBS Special The Night The Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles. In 2014 Walsh played select solo shows as well as with the Eagles on The History of The Eagles World Tour, with new dates continuing throughout 2015.  In April 2015 Walsh performed with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr for Starr’s Induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, later broadcast on HBO. In May 2015 Walsh joined Eddie Vedder and Pete Townsend for an All Star Celebration of The Who’s music to benefit Teen Cancer America.

Joe should tour with a different band

by 1966Namvet on 10/20/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band is too heavy metal for me and I had to leave until Joe came on at 9:00. Joe should have a different band open for him. The amps were way too loud and you couldn't hear any of the singing. Joe's songs were good but didn't sound the same without the other Eagles in back up.

    joe rocked the house

by muchobliged on 10/20/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Arrived a little late into KWS set but I was pleasantly surprised. If the vocals had been mixed properly, Blue on Black would have been awesome(still good), and Voodoo child cover as the last song was kickin'! Joe came out and rocked the house with songs that spanned his career, solo and with his bands. The show was really enjoyable and I am glad I had a chance to see this legend again :)

Joe Walsh - Kenny Shepherd - too loud

by EaglesFan10 on 10/20/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Kenny' and Joe are both great guitar players, but everything was too loud, at least for me. I like music loud. As I turn it up, details and nuance are revealed, and it becomes a visceral experience. But it reaches a point (for me) where all that gets squashed. The detail and nuance disappear again, and the visceral part is not enjoyable. Many rock concerts reach that unfortunate point, and so did this one. So I don't go to many concerts. A little louder yet, and it overloads my ears, and I hear a buzz. This one did not reach that point. Yeah, I'm 61, but I've been seeing, er, hearing the same thing since I was in my 30's. Kenny's singer didn't do anything for me. The blues guitars numbers were the best. Joe isn't the Eagles best singer, and this was a solo gig, but he gets a pass on that, and the guitar playing was amazing as I expected.

    Guitar Lovers Dream

by SuMo826 on 10/20/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Paring Kenny Wayne Shepherd with Joe Walsh was brilliant. The KWS Band opened with a solid set that had the house on its feet. They rocked for a solid hour with amazing guitars lick by the man himself. They played several new songs from How I Go as well as some old favorites. The sound was amazing and they received a standing ovation from the crowd. Joe Walsh followed with a huge group of musicians and played several classic hits. We were amazed at how many songs we recognized. He also brought the crowd to its feet multiple times. Overall, one amazing show!

    Good, but energy faded

by Cris69 on 10/20/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Kenny Wayne Shepherd played well and had good energy. Joe Walsh started good, but the energy thinned out towards the middle and end of show, also seemed a bit on the short side. Really wanted to hear "The Confessor", but go figure it wasn't played. He also didn't play "Ordinary Average Guy", which isn't my fav, but I was expecting it. 3 Stars is a bit low, the show was more 3.5 stars - good and recommended if you're a Walsh fan, but you might leave a bit disappointed.

Joe Walsh & Kenny Wayne Sheppard

by CreedinRaleigh on 10/20/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Joe Walsh was what I expected, a mediocre guitarist with a bad voice. Kenny Wayne Sheppard clearly stole the show with his lightning speed on the guitar, great blues voice and his lead singer has a great voice as well. There is a reason he was not on the stage for an encore with Walsh, he would have made him look awful. Joe Walsh needs to unplug the guitar for good.

    Joe and Kenny Wayne ROCK

by Bully131 on 10/20/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

We originally bought the tickets to see the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, as we absolutely love his music. Although Kenny definitely did not disappoint, the true showmaster is definitely Joe Walsh! HE WAS AMAZING!!! We loved every aspect of this show! DO NOT MISS JOE! The level of energy this man had was incredible. And the guitar-playing: Wow.

    Joe & Kenny

by TXGreenEyes on 10/17/11Verizon Wireless Theater - Houston

Kenny Wayne was fantastic. He is so talented, and I really enjoyed him. Joe is very funny and his ease with his audiance is great. The crowd is older and less rowdy so that makes for an enjoyable show. However, we are from the 60's and 70's so we're not afraid to express ourselves and party.

Joe Walsh, Kenny Wayne Shepherd excellent!

by DudeAbides on 10/14/11Verizon Wireless Theater - Houston

Of course I was already predisposed to like both as being among my favorite guitarist/songwriters. But still, it was a thrill to catch both on the same bill. Main regret was that neither got to play for as long as I wanted them to, and KWS didn't get around to couple of my favorite songs from his first CD.
