Best known for his powerful guitar licks, Joe Walsh has entertained the masses and captivated his peers for more than three decades with such classics as “Funk #49,” “Walk Away,” “Life’s Been Good,” and “Ordinary Average Guy.” In 1969 Walsh found success with The James Gang, followed by a stint with Barnstorm, a trio he founded. In 1973 Joe released his first solo album, which proved him a legitimate solo act with a limitless career on the horizon. By 1975 he joined The Eagles, bringing a harder rock sound to the group with the acclaimed Hotel California, The Long Run and Eagles Live.
In 1994, after a 14-year hiatus and several solo albums, The Eagles released Hell Freezes Over, which reached #1 on the Billboard charts and sparked one of the most successful tours in music history. And in 1998 The Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the first year they were nominated. Walsh performed at the 2012 Grammy’s with Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl and at the 2012 MusiCares event honoring Paul McCartney. That June Walsh released Analog Man, his first solo album in 20 years, performing solo shows around the world to support it throughout that year. In 2013 the award winning The History of The Eagles showcased at Sundance, the two part authorized documentary, and in February it aired on Showtime. In conjunction with the April release onto DVD the Eagles began their extensive The History of The Eagles World Tour. On February 9 2014 Walsh was featured in several songs on the CBS Special The Night The Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles. In 2014 Walsh played select solo shows as well as with the Eagles on The History of The Eagles World Tour, with new dates continuing throughout 2015. In April 2015 Walsh performed with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr for Starr’s Induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, later broadcast on HBO. In May 2015 Walsh joined Eddie Vedder and Pete Townsend for an All Star Celebration of The Who’s music to benefit Teen Cancer America.
Awesome show, its great to see Joe Walsh enjoying to perform and interacting with the crowd.
Joe looks great and sounds even better. He cracked jokes and acted like he always has! We have seen him several times with the Eagles but it was wonderful seeing him have the stage all to himself. No big surprise that he was fantastic. A big surprise was how good Kenny Wayne Shepherd was. I had never heard them before and they brought the house down as well. Amazing evening!!!
This was my first time seeing either band and I was not disappointed with either one.
Totally worth staying out past my bedtime on a work night!
Nice line up of his older songs including James Gang & Eagles stuff. Highly reccomend going to see. This type of talent won't be around much longer. Kenny Wayne was fabulous. Can't believe his not touring as a major headliner.
Big Joe rocked the house. Even in his mid 60's it was killer. I took my 2 year old and she loved it. Song after song, he was on fire. This man is a magician on the guitar. Anyone that wants to see a real artist, I would defiantly recommend Joe Walsh!!!
Joe Walsh was absolutely wonderful as expected. His classic hits were performed exquistely. Looking forward to his new releases. Kenny Wayne Shephard, with his Steve Ray Vaughn like performance was a very pleasant surprise, as I was not familiar with him until now. Very talented and will go far. As if he hasn't already. Again Joe, whether alone or w/ , well let's say the Eagles, will always standout. Excellent performance by all.
I enjoyed Kenny Wayne Shepherd, as I usually do. I've seen him several times. He is a great "guitar slinger." Joe made the evening though. He is not only a great musician but great showman. There is so much energy between him and the audience. It has been quite some time since seeing him play, but it was worth the wait. If you have a chance to see the show, definitely do so. It was a great time.
Joe Walsh was amazing! Kenny Wayne Sheppard started the evening off right with a great show also!
It has been a while since I have seen Joe in concert. Either he didn't play where I was or he was touring with the Eagles. Joe is one of my favorite musicians, right behind Neil Young. His shows are always entertaining and he seems to be enjoying himself. This show was no different. The band was bigger than I expected: three backup singers, two drummers, percussionist, keyboard, bass, guitar, and Joe. His setlist (see below) covered his whole career from the James Gang to his newest song "Wrecking Ball". He also did a cover of Bob Dylan's "I Shall be Released" to highlight one of the backup singers. I like so many of his songs that it would have been impossible for him to play them all. He did play some of them: "Life of Illusion" (from one of my favorite albums), Turn to Stone, and In the City. It was a great show and if you have a chance to see him, I would recommend it. Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a great guitarist and a Stevie Ray Vaughan wanna-be. He even has Stevie's drummer, Chris Layton. He started of slow but picked it up and showed off his SRV inspired licks. His cover of Voodoo Chile brought down the house.
The opening act Kenny Wayne Shepard was great.Joe Walsh is the best all around artist in the group, the Eagles. His proformance at the DPAC was an example of this.Great show.
Good show tho Joe Walsh should have played longer, headliners of his calabar should play at LEAST TWO HOURS.
Amazing show! Great venue! Seeing either one of these great guitarists is awesome, but both together: PRICELESS!
Joe put on a great show, still sounds like he did in the 70's, amazing guitar player, band was very good also , fronted by Kenny Wayne Shepard , great guitarist, loved the Hendrix covers he played as well as his own stuff.
Joe was out of this world as always. He was on top all night. Kenny Wanye Shepherd on the other hand was a disappointment. It was to loud, the lead singers love afair with the mike stand was rediculous. The music made no since, you could not understand the words. If we wanted guitar riffs , we would have gotten a Van Halan,Rush, Aerosmith CD an listened to it. Kenny Wayne Shepherd did not give to the audience all he didi was take. Joe gave his all and we responded with our all. Joe was the slide master.
Sound quality of Joe Walsh and kenny Wayne shepard was not up to DPAC standards. Bass guitar was muddy on all songs. Couldn't hear keyboard on several songs. Jjû
The Joe Walsh portion of the show was brutally, needlessly loud. I'm not one to shy away from volume--stood right in front of the stage at Charlotte's Fillmore for Warren Haynes six days earlier--but Walsh and his band were over the top. Kenny Wayne Shepherd was much more entertaining, though he apparently didn't get much sound check time, because Riley Osborne on keyboards was barely audible, except for his piano and Korg solos on "Shame on Me." We sat in first balcony and had to leave after an hour of Walsh--with our ears ringing. And we weren't alone.
great show. no problems as usual, this venue is by far the easiest in/out in the triangle.
For those who did not attend (Durham should be ashamed this legend did not sell out), this was the best show you never saw. KWS played his butt off trying to live up to Joe's expectations and absolutely did. Amazing blues and harmonics. I have seen every show within 100 miles of where I was living that Joe has performed since Houston's Music Hall in 1973 or 74, James Gang with Golden Earring. This includes with the Eagles, or not, and a little theater venue on Broadway in Denver in the early 90's when Joe was hanging out in Boulder. I have to say he is better than ever and put on an amazing performance. The best ever, and on a Tuesday night and with a less than sold out crowd. A true pro by any measure. Why am I not surprised that a legend of his stature just keeps getting better and better? He blew us away!
Kenny Wayne Shepard and Joe Walsh on the same night was too much to ask for. They were both smoking hot. The set list for Durham was about the same as previous shows so no sense listing. Not a huge Eagles fan so it was a real positive that only a couple of their songs were done. Good news was that Fast Lane was one of them. Would have liked to have heard ILBT's but not a problem. A truly outstanding evening. Hope Joe is back in the area before the next Eagles tour.
