Joanne Shaw Taylor is the real deal

by Blues4Ever on 4/5/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Joanne Shaw Taylor at the Orpheum was the epitome of of a true musician performing at the height of her powers. Her Fender is so natural to her it's like an extension of her body...sighing and climbing into the heavens like Hendrix, Clapton and the truly greats. Her mesmerizing vocals come directly from the heart and evoke memories of Janis Joplin in her prime. When she's wailing away on that guitar and looking up to the heavens she appears to be in a state of pure rapture...and she takes the audience on that joyous ride with her like a musical Messiah. It was one of those nights you remember forever as having died and gone to blues heaven.

    Joan Shaw Taylor Rocks!

by Shayne on 4/5/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

The Orpheum was the perfect setting for JSH, who really needs to be better appreciated by LA audiences for her incredible talents - a great voice, and a complete mastery of the guitar. Wow. Think of Janice Joplin singing with Bonnie Raitt while Stevie Ray rocks the house - all in one magical performance.

Band was good(I think), sound in venue was horrible.

by PeteG on 3/27/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

If you care how music sounds, don't sit in the first 4 rows of Empire Theatre . For this concert I was 2nd row center stage. House speakers were aprox 35 ft over head, pointed straight out. No front fills to compensate. I could see the bass player playing, but could hear zero bass guitar thru 70% of the show. Same with cymbals, bass drum. I listened to the curtain call from 2/3 towards back, the band was actually really good. The sound was much better back there. Mezzanine would probably be a good choice too. If you like garbled mids that are pure echo, sit down front. To be clear, the problem I am describing is not the bands fault. Not even the sound man's fault. Problem is with their system and not having the right equipment for the venue.

    Sound Quality

by JR on 3/27/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

I enjoyed the performance, however the sound was distorted and unintelligible. Possibly the venue had blown speakers or the sound technician had added to much gain. I won’t be going back to Empire again

    Talented, but not our thing

by J. N. on 3/27/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

We felt the volume was out of proportion to the venue. There was no need to crank it up that much. The vocals were difficult to hear. And we heard a lot of commentary on disappointments with Bonamosa and some others. Really didn’t need to know. The ‘formula’ of the music presentation got redundant.

    Love the Blues

Joann was unbelievable. Great guitar player and she played for 2 hours. Very sad there was such a small turnout for her show

    Great, great show!

by bayfred on 3/23/23Saenger Theatre Mobile - Mobile

Joanna not only showcased her incredible musical abilities and those of her band but also demonstrated the ability to connect and interact with the audience. My only complaint was the disappointing turnout by the Mobile concert-goers. Guess it was because it was a Monday night.

    Good time at the Bijou

by Lori on 11/21/22Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

A very good concert. I felt right at home, most of the crowd were like me, middle age and older. They knew how to appreciate good talent! If I had a complaint, the way for your ticket to be good is a bit cumbersome, especially for people who are older and not used to going through such a process.

The concert was awesome from start to finish

by George's Bar on 11/21/22Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Great setlist, New songs way better than the great oldies. Venue was perfect for her show. Solos were way over the top compared to those on the albums. What a great experience. But I really missed the brass and backup singers. Not that she needs them. But shows where she had them were really deeper.

    Joanne Is Great!

by Sharky on 11/21/22Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Joanne Shaw Taylor is a must see for Blues fans. She played a 1 1/2 hour set of songs from her latest two studio albums as well ass several from her back catalog. Her set was a high energy ride interspersed with slower ballads that were timed perfectly. Her sense of humor showed when she did take the time to talk to the audience, but most of her speaking was through her music. It was obvious she enjoyed sharing her gift of music to all of us.

    A++

by Steve on 11/20/22Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Joanne brought the whole package: excellent songwriting, potent vocals, great energy, a solid band, and well-balanced sound. Her guitar work was engaging without extending into the self-gratuitous zone. And she was pretty darn gracious about letting band members showcase their talent. The 1.5 hour show went waaaay too fast.

It was a great night in a perfect setting… The Bizou!

by Gap Blues Master on 11/20/22Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Great Guitar Hot Licks reminiscent of Stevie Ray! The sound board seemed a tad off with less than perfect separation of vocal and instruments. Hot lead licks were at time muffled by the rhythm guitar and cut aways to the organ were too low. Overall all a good show with the artists showing much talent and even more potential!

    Joanne is Amazing!

by Johns323 on 11/14/22Sandler Center For The Performing Arts - Virginia Beach

What a great experience! I hadn’t heard of Joanne until I received an ad about this show. We took a chance and bought tickets and I’m so glad we did. I can’t say enough good things about her and her performance. First and foremost, she’s an amazing blues guitarist. She rips it with the best of them. The real beauty of her show is how she connects with the audience with her sweet and genuine personality. It’s too bad this style of music isn’t that popular these days. If she were born 25 years earlier, she’d be a household name. I’ll definitely see her again. One of the most enjoyable concert experiences I’ve had.
