Definitely a great time ... never a bad seat in the house! Please bring them back again!!! It was the perfect vibe & atmosphere.
JJ puts on a fantastic/High energy show, the tunes sound great, and JJ really knows how to work the crowd. Worth the money... Not many people play this hard/good these days.
JJ Grey is an amazingly talented artist whose music appeals across the board. I would highly recommend anyone who enjoys blues rock music to go catch him live. Great, great show!
Love listening to JJ Grey & Mofro's music as played from iPod or CD ... but getting to enjoy their music live was even more awesome! You could feel how much they enjoy playing their music and it is reflected in the audience's reception and response to what they played! Wish they could have played a couple of hours longer!
Ponderosa opened for JJ. They where outstanding. Totally rocked the place. I'm a big fan now.Would have been hard for other bands to come out after an opening act like that. But true to form JJ and the Mofro's showed why they have been around so long and why they have a deep following of fans. Number after number JJ continued with the solid sound that has made him a must see show if he is in your area.
JJ Grey was completely amazing, 2nd time I've seen him. Combining his passion and soul with the accoustics of the Pageant made it one of the top 2 concerts I have ever seen. You can see and feel the passion both JJ and each of his band members put into the music and it's contagious! I will go see JJ anywhere and everywhere I possibly can! I'm thinking it won't be long until he's in the main stream circuit!
One of the best show I have seen in the last several years, The vocals were outstanding, the band was rocking, and along with the stories of what had been the inspiration for several of the songs it was over the top. If you get a chance to see this band and you like there type of music would highly recommend it.
We got great seats and could see the stage through the whole show. Concerts at The Pageant are amazing in a smaller setting. I love their newest album and would see them whenever they are playing. Would recommend if you love the blues!
You can tell when an artist really loves what they do and has a great time doing it! The energy at The Pageant in St Louis on Saturday night was at an all-time high as everyone joined in the bluesy-southern sound of JJ Grey & Mofro. He started right out with a perfect version of King Hummingbird and barely took a breath as he smoothly went from song to song. A couple of stories about the group and what inspired some of his lyrics .. including a great story about his Mama listening to Slow Hot and Sweaty for the first time. We knew it was going to be a special night when Mofro's drummer came out and danced freely and solo during the warm up performance of Ponderosa (watch for them to headline their own tour in the near future .. great, original, out-of-your seat dancing music!) JJ told us this was the last night of his tour ... and they were anything but tired! Nothing was left when they were through and all of us who were lucky enough to have been there.
JJ Grey & Mofro have one of the best live sounds going ....They rock the house and everyone there is totally engaged with the music ... The Pageant is an awesome venue and I will be going there again ... If JJ comes your way, do not miss ....I drove all the way from Benton Arkansas (420 miles) and would do it again .....
This show was very good! I have been to shows at the Pageant where it was over crowded, but this was the perfect amount of people and an excellent band. Would go to this show at the Pageant again if it was available.
The show was fantastic, but I was disappointed in Atlanta. The band was more than clear that they were filming for a DVD and asked for the crowd to be respectful on the slow song, "King Hummingbird". However, the crowd was not respectful. Also it was clear that JJ Grey was upset later in the set when the crowd was throwing objects. Atlanta was privileged to have this event, and I was embarrassed for our city.
Filming a live DVD at a venue with 2000+ of your greatest fans can prove a logistical challenge even to a band at the top of their game. A good solution...perform some of the key songs of the set again until the film is perfect. JJ and the band did exactly that on Saturday night providing an extension of the set that lasted long into the night. Naturally the band was well rewarded with an audience that truly returned the love, creating a vibe that kept the Variety Playhouse buzzing long after the band left the stage.
Other than JJ's disapointment in how loud his fans were, it was great. I think he could have treated the issue with more tact. However, he is a wonderfully talented musician and entertainer. His songs are great and deep. The band was amazing! I was very happy to see Todd Smallie, a great Atlanta talent, and every single band member was exceptional!
JJ Grey and MoFro were as awesome as ever! its my 5th time seeing them and they are on my list as favorites....
JJ and Mofro are Stars. Soon i'll be able to say i saw jj and mofro at the small culture room. Wish they were at wanee this year, but i hear there up to something that week.
Outstanding show. They were super energetic and really put on a great show.
The opening act sucked and just went on too long ! My girlfriend and I were so disappointed we left before JJ Frey came on. Opening act should have done 2-3 max and then straight to JJ Frey, come on guys, i looked around and saw how bored 90% of the people were. Never goin back again, fooy good bye
This band rocks! Saw the show on Jan 14th at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale. LOVED IT!!! Their style is bluesy & jazzy with a little southern rock. JJ Grey is one talented and sexy guy! Loved the drummer & the horns. You could tell they were all having fun - the entire band was smiling the whole time! This was our fist time at this venue. It was quaint and the acoustics were good. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend JJ Grey & Mofro... you'll love them!
From the first beat to the last note, the show was hot, and the band was tight. It isn't possible to overstate how good this band is live, and it all starts with Grey's "conducting." He sets a tone that seems to demand attention from both the band and audience, and there isn't a time where all parties involved aren't having a great time.
