The reverence that Jimmy had for Glen made the show heartfelt and poignant. I was entertained from start to finish-thanks Jimmy!

Jimmy Webb’s performance was so entertaining. Loved his song selections and his background stories. Would love to see him again. Interesting video background. Venue perfect. However, we purchased our tickets in July and did not understand why our seats were on the last row.

Jimmy Webb is one of the worlds biggest gifts to songwriting. Every song tells a story you are happy to hear again and again , complete with beautiful melodies and always a hook that that is impossible to forget . He is such an accomplished pianist ; one of the best in the world . Love the videos, history behind the music and the piano. The tour would be greatly enhanced by having a young vocalist or 2 . There are so many talented souls out there who would love to be with Mr Webb and sing for him and this would enhance the show.

More about Jimmy Webb than Glen Campbell. Boring at times. Mr. Webb is a talented pianist but his vocal skills were not desirable. He is a song writer not a singer. Additionally he appeared to forget his place on several occasions.

Enjoyed hearing stories and watching/hearing Glen Campbell. Jimmy may be a good song writer, by he really can’t sing. Would have enjoyed him starting song and transitioning into a video of Glen. Love the Lyric Theatre!

I knew he had written songs for Glen Campbell as Glen always gave him credit. It was a great evening to celebrate a 60th Anniversary of friendship with my friend, Louise! We met on our first day at our government jobs in Washington, DC! 😍

Great experience. Jimmy pours his heart into performing. Interacts with crowd, Will play request, and is a joy. True American musical treasure.

What a great story-teller Jimmy Webb. I had read his book on songwriting a couple years ago but was not too familiar with much of his music. By the way, the book is an excellent resource for songwriters or anyone wanting to learn more about the craft. Karla Bonoff opened the concert, alternating between guitar and piano. Her no-nonsense performance was occasionally punctuated by quips of humor, and her style of singing was earthy and genuine. The few stories she told about her music really helped to set the songs in context. Jimmy Webb was on after the intermission. Throughout his whole set, he made the audience feel as if we were one group of friends gathering to help him make music. He even taught a small bit of harmony to three sections of the audience, and we all sang this together with him. Granted, it was very simple, but still fun and it added to the feel of homey-ness. His piano playing was energetic and creative. That and the quality of his songs more than made up for his average singing. I am thrilled I went and would go again if he and Karla were performing near me again.

  • Jimmy Webb & Karla Bonoff

by Anonymnousname on 4/26/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

I went to hear Jimmy Webb perform his own songs and was disappointed that he preferred talking to playing and only played 5 songs. I don't really care about his political views, name-dropping all the famous artists that have performed his songs, etc. Karla Bonoff, however, was a revelation to me. I was vaguely familiar with her prior and am now eager to explore her catalogue more thoroughly.

  • Where pen and piano came to life!

    by Magic959 on 4/26/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Jimmy Webb and Karla Bonoff were as smooth as silk. Karla opened solo and closed in a duet with Jimmy. The purity and clarity of her voice was crystal clear. Her engagement with the audience was great and allowed us to connect as one. She was humorous and truly a delight to hear. As for Jimmy Webb, well..... the talent of just one person had me in awe the entire night. I could have sat there and listened to him play and sing for hours on end! He connected well with the crowd and even invited us to sing along, of course under his direction. :D It was an honor to meet both he and Karla after the show!!! They both took the time to talk with each fan as each fan would explain how much their music has meant to them over the years. That was very touching to say the least as I'm sure they were ready to call it a night after 11pm. I will never forget this concert and I am so thankful I got to share it with the love of my life! Perfect night indeed!!!

  • Great Music, Music History!

by DukeFanBill on 4/26/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Jimmy sings better than he gives himself credit for - excellent performances by both artists. I love to hear writing masters perform their own material. Between the two a music legacy has developed and flourished through their relationships and collaboration with other artists with whom they have shared their hearts and talent. Music lovers owe these two many thanks.

  • Disappointing Webb / Bonoff in Durham NC

    by hondawagon91 on 4/26/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

Karla Bonoff's set was fine. Soundman behind glass at back of theater could not hear that her top note dynamics were often shrill in the audience and the operator needed to temper the top end somewhat. Others in the audience commented on this as well. Webb, despite writing hundreds of hits, only played 6 or 7 songs. The rest of the show consisted of long recollections on various topics. His set needs to be tightened up. He is a virtuoso pianist, no question about it, but I thought we would be hearing a lot more of his vast catalog of songs. Not so. He checked his watch several times during the show and said he didn't have much time left. Played about 30-40 minutes of music if that. Totally nice, affable guy, but give us some music! Advertised door opening was 7:30pm for 8pm show but doors did not open until 7:50pm.
