About

Jennifer Nettles music has been with us for so long, it is easy for ticket buyers to forget that she is only now starting her journey as a solo artist. For nearly a decade, Nettles has lent her alternately smoky, soulful and sassy voice to the country music duo Sugarland, and in the process netted two Grammys to go along with five Academy of Country Music Awards, and five #1 Country singles. During those years, Sugarland's music grew exponentially, with 2010's The Incredible Machine, an album filled with anthemic rockers meant to fill stadiums, expanding the very idea of what country music is and can be. Now, after the Georgia native took time away from her band's relentless tour schedule to become a mom, Nettles is spreading her wings as a solo act. For "That Girl," the first single of the forthcoming record, Nettles builds on the other woman persona that she adopted in the Sugarland hit "Stay," adding sultriness with the addition of Latin rhythms. With legendary producer Rick Rubin at the helm of the new project, it's safe to expect even more surprising platforms for Nettles's rich, emotional instrument both on record and in concert.

Great theatre, great opening act (Brandy Clark) and Jennifer was flawless. She was funny, personable, and has breathtaking talent. The seats were great, the audio was great, and the concert was unforgettable. Loved everything about it.

Great voice wasted on poor style. Seems to me she tries to sound too "country" by over doing it. It just sounds silly. This band behind just didn't have anything to offer. This solo effort one of the most disappointing for me. Rick Rubin couldn't even produce her. She's a sweety and I still love her. Just wish I had a chance to work with her. She needs to be more suttle.

  • Jennifer has a fabulous voice!!

Great place for a concert. Not too loud and not uncomfortably crowded.

Great venue! Price was perfect and concert was awesome!

  • Bad sound system

    by Janusz64 on 3/15/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I have seen Sarah Brightman and Patrizio Buene at Chicago theater and their sound system was perfect. You cold hear every word they sang and the band was not over powering. When Jennifer Nettles was on stage the base and base drum was so loud that you could not hear her sing. When she performed with acoustic guitars it was great. I don't know why she has drifted away from country to blues but if she keeps this going her career will simply fade away. Her choice.

  • Jennifer Nettles was PHENOMENAL!

The show was fantastic and a great time. My only disappointment was that I didn't go VIP. Hosting the concert at the soundboard was an excellent choice. The sound was fantastic and I will definitely attend another JN concert and other concerts at the soundboard.

  • Biggest voice in music

by Asdfgjkl on 3/15/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Jennifer Nettles is a gift and a tireless, extremely professional performer. Outstanding band, wide selection of songs, and quite pleasant on the eyes. Opener Brandy Clark was a wonderful surprise, sharp clean voice, outstanding lyrics, fabulously dark and moody subject matter. And Ms. Clark held her own sharing a duet with Jennifer Nettles, which is no mean feat. And all of this in the gorgeous Chicago Theater. Gotta love it.

Concert "Sound Board" venue is excellent.Site lines good and seating comfortable. Event Parking was very convenient and adjacent to the entrance or you can use the ramp. Food and beverages available. JN performed a variety of music renditions from Country, Soul to Rock for a full 1:45 minutes. We believe she will complement her Country with variety from here on out.

  • Jennifer Nettles was AMAZING!!!

How can I review a Jennifer Nettles concert without Sugarland? Well, lets start with knowing that Ms. Nettles is arguably one of the premier voices in all of music today. She is one of those few artists who sound even better live than on their recordings. I found myself feeling that I was so fortunate to be a part of an intimate venue knowing this was so special. With that bold statement, one looks at the body of her work in this era as Jennifer Nettles and That Girl CD. So, lets start with the end - the encore. The final song makes the statement for anyone who knows Jennifer and her 20 plus years of music – Like a Rock. Like nearly everyone on this earth, she has had tough times and come through like a rock. Jennifer’s cover of this 70’s song is as good or better than Bob Seger’s original. What a way to end an ever-memorable concert. But before even performing that for her audience, Ms. Nettles opens the encore with her new song, Thank You. The sincerity was so deep in that song I knew she was singing to me. Now lets go to the opening of her concert. She was stunning in her gold top and almost leopard slacks that made her legs look like they never ended and she was beautiful to see. She opened with her new single, That Girl. Although not one of my favorite Jennifer Nettles songs she really did herself proud in her live performance tonight. Moving ahead she had a terrific blend of just enough sprinkling of Sugarland, Baby Girl Something More and Stay, to keep us old fans happy but the focus was surely on her newest songs. From This Angel to Me Without You to Moneyball and This one’s for You, I listened and fell in love with Jennifer without Kristian, Jennifer the superstar without the extravaganza of the band and stage, Jennifer the singer who will invite you in and then captivate you with her magical style. I found it challenging to enjoy the moment of each song, knowing that I was listening to a performance that went far beyond the venue in which we were seeing her. I love her lyrics, the magic of her words and she adds such a real touch to the performance that one must always remember she is special and we must treasure our time that she shares with us. I will see her again and again and I know that each time it will be better than the last just like it was all those times seeing Sugarland and knowing that she is standing there on stage vulnerable, alone but with legions of fans surrounding her like she puts her arms around each and everyone of us. This concert is a must see!

Such a great show! First I must say that I love shows at MotorCity Sound Board...it gives off a small feeling and is great for intimate shows. This was a perfect location for Jennifer Nettles! She sang almost all the songs from her new CD (That Girl), some Sugarland favorites and also some covers. She was amazing...that voice! One of my favorite concerts ever!
