American Idol star and Tony® Award nominee Constantine Maroulis joins with Grammy® Award nominee and R&B superstar Deborah Cox to inject new life into the classic tale of good and evil, JEKYLL & HYDE. After four thrilling, chilling years on Broadway and multiple world-wide tours, this dark and dangerous love story from Tony® and Grammy® Award nominee Frank Wildhorn and Oscar® and Grammy® winner Leslie Bricusse, returns in a stunning new pre-Broadway production directed by Tony® nominee Jeff Calhoun and includes all the classic songs (This is the Moment, A New Life, Someone Like You) that first grabbed audiences by the throat and transformed JEKYLL & HYDE into a theatrical phenomenon.
Great show, lots of action, Constantine and Deborah are true stars. The sets are very well done. The Cadillac is a nice venue.
Since I had seen Jekyll & Hyde off broadway in New York it was difficult to say that the Chicago version was the better. Some of the songs were changed, so missed the ones I did not hear. The staging and movements of the sets was very good. The singing was very good as well. Acting was amazing.
The play was much better than I anticipated. The voices of Constantine and Debra were amazing.
I loved this show and would see it again, it was that good. I have not seen the show before and loved the whole show. I loved the sets, the cast and how they drew you into Dr. Jekyll's world. I found my self so into the show at times I was clutching my necklace and then felt so embarrassed. I really liked how they had a broadway side during the Dr. Jekyll side and a more rock opera side during the Mr. Hyde scenes. Both my daughter and I loved it. We also thought Constantine did an amazing job of being both characters. We really saw a difference. Debra Cox is an amazing singer as well as is the rest of the cast. It was a top notch show.
Teal Wicks was the only good thing about this play. Constantine and Debra stood out, but not in a good way. It felt like a solid Broadway cast with two big names added in regardless of their skill level. Constantine's accent was HORRIBLE and distracting. Debra has a beautiful voice but when she went from speaking with an accent and then singing R&B it messed with the flow of the show. Too much going on. Not cohesive.
Loved Jeckyl and Hyde. 3rd time I've seen it including on Broadway. Surprised at the mediocre reviews it's getting.
A+: Awesome and Amazing. Would love to see again! The vocals were outstanding!
The music amazing, the stage basic but descriptive
Constantine maroulis was incredible, his vocal talent is amazing and his transformation into the two characters was mesmerizing. He had us at the edge of our seats. Deborah Cox hit the notes flawlessly. Her performance was astounding. Such a talented cast and incredible vocals. The special effects were spell binding. If you get a chance don't miss this musical.
I saw Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway almost 16 years ago and really enjoyed the show. Love the music!!! This revival production has made changes and re-envisioned the show, as a revival should. However, the new vision is darker and creepier, and strips the character development and emotions of the show. The most notable changes were to Murder, Murder and the Confrontation, and these were BAD choices! Didn't love any of the actors either. Constantine had some great moments as Hyde. His Jekyll seemed uncomfortable. Deborah Cox also had moments where she sounded amazing, and some that did not sound good at all.
Constantine was excellent. Voice and acting. Very impressed. Ms. Cox had a lovely voice and a strong presence. The chemistry between the 2 "Dangerous Game" song was very hot. Sets were very good. The only negative issue: the ending. The death of jekyll was so abrupt. It left me saying: Is that it?
I was not expecting it to be that good. In fact it was GREAT. The costumes and sets - very good. The singing by ALL actors - superb! Their range and pitch were "spot on". The voice and acting of the main character Jekyll/Hyde left me speechless -he was so good. The performance was one of the best I have seen.
Truely amazing, music and singing were top shelf. I had seen the Chicago production last time it passed through on the way to New York. This was updated in a sense that the arrangements were less of an operetta sound and more of an energetic band. The quality and mood was wonderful. The sets were entirely different and included more technology, I enjoyed this production as much as the last. I play the 2 disk CD often, songs are haunting and stay with you.
Can't wait for the show to come to New York! Margoulis's voice was truly mesmorizing as he changed characters. Debra Cox was fabulous...It should be a real hit in New York....
Couldn't take my eyes off Constatine Maroulis. His voice was mesmerizing! Could understand every word he said. And that accent was hypnotic. Would love to see it again on Broadway!
We found the production to be overblown - the music was not memorable and the acting was sub par. Jekyll's horrible English accent had us chuckling throughout the show and Lucy lost her accent completely when she sang. The difference between the trained Broadway actors and the pop stars was striking. The music lacked complexity - much less harmonies - and the lyrics sounded like they relied heavily on a rhyming dictionary. If we hadn't picked up the tickets on a deep discount special used to fill mid week seats, I would have demanded a refund.
I love this theater and these seats were fantastic, however, I can't say that many great things about the cast other than the main character. I read similar reviews from other customers, but had to see it for myself. Deborah Cox was a great singer, however, there was zero chemistry between her and any other character. I was greatly disappointed in casting decision. I give huge kudos to the stage crew and band, as they had impressive variety of music and the lighting was awesome. Overall, I think it was an average play
Deborah Cox was the saving grace of this otherwise uninteresting re-imagining of an excellent broadway show. I saw the original and this production doesn't come close. I'm not saying that it has to mirror the original production but this was lifeless and way too toned down, Maroulis is not impressive as Jekyll/Hyde and overall I would give this production a big miss.
The performance was average, the singing (with the exception of Deborah Cox) was average, the sets were average, the lighting and effects were average. I expected better vocals from Constantine. I saw him perform in Rock of Ages and was thoroughly impressed. In this production, I am thoroughly disappointed.
Constantine with Rock of Ages voice= awesome! Supporting cast more like opera singers! All terrible actors!
