    jekyll &hyde

    by tboneman1 on 3/25/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This is the third time I've seen Jekyll&Hyde. This one had better sets, but the reworking of the music was a mistake. The ending should have been left alone too. It also seems some of the scenes were cut. The dialogue of Jekyll and Hyde(in the mirror) was an improvement, but the rest should have been left alone.

    Jekyll & Hyde was AMAZING

    by theatrelover59 on 3/25/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

While dark in nature, this musical was amazing to watch and hear. The leads Constantine and Deborah were perfect while supported by a strong cast. He's come a long way from his Idol days and I first saw her on Broadway as Aida. Great show...would be careful with younger children attending because of the bar scene, make out scene at the bar, and killings.

    Good watch

Voices are awesome! Theme as dark as you would expect. Won't be a classic must see, but worth the watch

    Jekyll and Hyde was awesome

    by zabes54 on 3/25/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We saw Jekyll and Hyde at the Cadillac Palace theatre in Chicago. The show was fantastic. The stars were great, as were the special effects and the music. Constantine Maroulis was very powerful in the role. My son did not like the way "the conversation" was done with a prerecorded visual, but I liked it. We met Constantine afterwards by the stage door and he was extremely friendly and gracious to my son and his friends, taking pictures with them and signing their playbils.

2 hours of my life wasted

    by 12Sparky3 on 3/25/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

totally unmemorable. Very little in this play to like - singing was forced; music was unpleasant - I could not even remember a line or tune from the entire show - and that is a good thing!

The show was amazing! I took my 3 sons (age 20, 21 and 22) and they loved it! Constantine and his "gals" were fantastic!

    We really liked it.

by Spendthriftsal on 3/25/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I was a bit concerned after reading some negative or blah reviews, but we really enjoyed it. The musical is admittedly 'dark' but that should be expected of Jekyll and Hyde. We were impressed with the endurance of Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde as that is a very demanding role and he was in almost every scene. Highly recommend :)

    Great show

    by Thespian99 on 3/25/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I fell in love with the original broadway show back in 97. This show has made some changes. Most of the changes were great. I question some of the changes in the music, but the performers are amazing. At times the projections almost make it feel like a rock and roll show. I had a feeling that most audience members came to see the performers than they did the actual show. I question the shows stability if those stars were to leave the production.

    Don't waste your money

    by bporiordan81 on 3/25/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Not worth the money at all. The theatre was about 40% empty, which should tell you something. Maroulis and Cox generated all the spark of a 9 volt battery. He plays Jeckyll as a reject from the apartment in The Big Bang Theory, and Hyde as a wannabe Alex DeLarge. Cox has a great voice, but can't act. The best actors were the second leads, the fiancee and best friend. They were good, but with leads as bad as these, they had no where to go and no one to play off. The audio was cranked so loud that you could hear every inhalation. Someone needs to explain the concept of reinforcement to the crew. If it makes it to Broadway in its current form it will close in a week.

    Jekyll and Hyde were great

    by Charlie1906 on 3/24/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I must say the staging was creative and appropriately eerie. I enjoyed the vocal performances of the stars and the supporting cast. If you like dark themed stories like Dr. Jekyll then this is worth seeing

    Good Musical/Uneven Show

by DrPooki on 3/24/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I hear people complain about this musical but personally - I like it. It may be due to the fact that I saw a high school production that got me hooked on many of the songs. One then begins to conjure the dream production in one's head and clearly the performers cast in the roles of Lucy and Jeykll/Hyde can sink a production. While Deborah Cox's vocals help the show (although A New Life lacked the fragility of Lucy's soon to be tragic demise) it's major liability is the performance of Constantine Maroulis who fails to bring any vocal persuasion or chemistry with his leading lady. The night I saw the show, Maroulis' mid range was uneven, often out of tune and nasal, while his fortissimo, high singing had power and a lot of physical tension. There is something to be said for a singer who can sing in an unforced, natural way - without pretentious histrionics. This rock style of singing didn't not help the score whatsoever. The staging skirts the 'humanity' of the characters and focuses on their stereo typical attributes (as does the singing). We need to be able to relate to these people, not watch them in a circus 'freak show'. Director should spend a night watching - Elephant Man (movie directed by David Lynch), a movie that brought visual balance to the Victorian melodrama. A shame for a show that deserves more of a nuanced hand in both the casting and direction.

    Great Time

by BobSz on 3/24/13Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I've seen this twice before on Broadway & in SF. Always one of my favorite shows. The staging has been completely redone and it's a nice update although I also liked the original staging. Some previously removed music & songs are back to good effect. The singing was excellent and all of the cast were up to the challenges offered by the music. While I wasn't partial to the way the climatic scene was re staged it wasn't bad in itself, it's just that the original staging of the Jekyll & Hyde duet with himself is so iconic that I really missed seeing that version. Had I never seen the original version, I would have been quite happy with the way it was done. Overall, I had a great time at the theatre on an appropriately chilly night reminiscent of foggy old London.

The singers were outstanding. The set designs were also very creative - particularly the Spider Web scene.
