About

Jeff Lynne's ELO in Concert

"It's nice to have songs in your catalog that stand the test of time." So says creator Jeff Lynne about one of the most cherished troves in the history of pop music. As the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who masterminded the Electric Light Orchestra (or ELO for short), the Birmingham-bred Lynne created a fabulously futuristic yet eminently engaging series of hit albums and singles that may be just as thrilling to new generations of listeners as they were to the millions who bought them during ELO's original run from 1970 to 1986. Indeed, thanks to these songs' presence on the soundtracks for movies like ‘American Hustle' and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,' it feels like ELO's hardly been away.

Yet until the new revival, ELO had been dormant since 1986, Lynne resurrecting the band only briefly for the 2001 album ‘Zoom.' Lynne stayed busy with solo albums and production work for friends like George Harrison and Tom Petty, two legends who'd join him alongside the late Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan in the Traveling Wilburys. Then the release of a new compilation in 2012 — ‘Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra' — spurred Lynne and original ELO member Richard Tandy to perform a benefit concert at London's Apollo. It led to a much grander return for BBC Two's Hyde Park Festival in 2014, with all 50,000 tickets selling out in 15 minutes. "That felt like I was breaking through a barrier," said Lynne of the end of ELO's long hiatus as a live act. The triumphs continued with a medley of "Evil Woman" and "Mr. Blue Sky" at the 2015 Grammy Awards, a historic concert at England's iconic Wembley Stadium in 2016, and ELO's 2017 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With the help of musical director Mike Stevens and 13 players, Jeff Lynne continues to bring the ELO experience to audiences worldwide in a two-hour show that includes such classics as "Evil Woman," "Strange Magic," and "Livin' Thing." Fans can also enjoy more unexpected pleasures like "Do Ya" by The Move, the ‘60s rockers that first teamed Lynne and his ELO cofounder Roy Wood, and the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." The new ELO songs Lynne wrote and recorded for ‘Alone in the Universe' (2015) prove that one of pop's most celebrated craftsmen has not lost his Midas touch.

    Hit song after hit song!

    by R. S. on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

Jeff Lynne's ELO thrilled a full house with hit song after hit song. Lynne has assembled a top flight band to accompany him as he takes his fans on a trip down memory lane. The high point of the concert for me was Dhani Harrison coming onstage to join Lynne to sing his father's part in The Traveling Wilburys Handle with Care. A great concert!

    My Favorite Concert....EVER!!

    by E. T. on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

WOW!!!! Jeff Lynne's ELO really rocked the house! I cannot say enough good things about this concert! The venue was great, and I enjoyed my stay in Pittsburgh. This band is very professional and talented. They had an opening act that was a band headed by George Harrison's son, Dhani. After that 45 minute performance, Jeff and his band took the stage and played every hit you wanted to hear. We stood up for most of the night and rocked out. My hands hurt from clapping so much. My throat was sore for a day from yelling and cheering so much. I had a wonderful experience and I will never forget this night. Ticket prices were on point and I thank Ticketmaster for making the purchase so easy. If this band comes your way, GO SEE THEM!!

    ELO Excellence

by Lotsa concerts on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

We had great seats for this show and it was nearly on a par with two Paul McCartney shows and the Paul Simon show we saw in the last few years. Twelve band members on stage recreated with great accuracy all those ELO songs we know and love. It was, quite simply, ELO excellence!

ELO / United Center Chicago - Great show/venue/city!

by Scriv on 8/5/19United Center - Chicago

I'd been wanting to see ELO for about 40 years, but their tour schedule has never been that heavy so it had never worked out for me. I love the band and Jeff Lynne's attitude toward and appreciation of music. So when I saw they were going to Chicago and coupled with the fact that I'd never been to Chicago, my wife and I traveled from Massachusetts to see them at the United Center. My wife wasn't nearly as familiar with ELO as I am and was more happy about going back to Chicago, but after the show she said it was "one of the best shows she's ever seen" (and we go to in the neighborhood of 10-12 shows a year). Great show! Love the strings (cellos/violin)! The sound quality was great and the video and lighting were superb! I was also very impressed with the United Center. I found it clean and spacious and the people were friendly. The only drawback was that while we were able to get dropped off at the front door by our Uber driver before the show, the pick-up location for ride services is about a 3 or 4 block walk from the venue and there were dozens and dozens of people there so it was a bit crowded and chaotic. Lastly, it was convenient and easy to have our e-tickets in my 'wallet' app on my iPhone.

by Jayson on 8/5/19Nationwide Arena - Columbus

This is one of the best shows I have ever seen live! The sound quality was spectacular and the laser and light shows superb! This is definitely in my top 5 of all time concerts, if not number 1. Fantastic show!

    love ELO

    by d. m. on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

I love the music of ELO. My issue isn't with the concert, but the venue. PPG Paints Arena is HUGE! I got seats that I could afford. Upper tier. The stage was so small from my perspective. Even the big screens were tiny. However light show was great. I think I will stick with smaller venues.

    ELO Concert

by Happy on 8/5/19Nationwide Arena - Columbus

First 45 minutes was a total disappointment. Band was basically loud. Never heard of them. Paid too much money for tickets to have this type of 'entertainment'. When Jeff Lynne and his band finally got on stage, the show was great. Would've given it 5 stars if not for the earlier noise. With the new ticket tax, I probably won't go to any more concerts. I don't want to pay for the "Arts" when I go to see other venues. I suppose next year, the CAPA Summer movie series will be taxed also.

    Excellent Concert

by Love My Music on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

Although Jeff Lynne is now in his 70's, his voice & musical talent surpasses even the younger acts on tour! It was 30+ years ago that ELO was last in Pittsburgh, so this concert was a long time coming. The orchestra was on point, and you knew EVERY song that was played. Even George Harrison's son stepped in for his dad on a Traveling Wilbury's song. We couldn't ask for a better performance.

Bring Jeff Lynne back next year. If he were performing the next day, I would have been there. One terrific show and one super excellent, talented band. The best concert I ever attended undoubtedly. Thank you Jeff Lynne for the songs, the show, the lasers, the background videos - very well put together and staged. Enjoyed every minute of it,

    ELO Turns Back TIme

by EYC Sailing 6 on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

I had been waiting for an ELO tour to come around to my area again. I just didn't think it would take 38 years. The last show ELO played in Pittsburgh was in 1981. This show was in a new venue across the street, but Jeff Lynne sounded just like I remembered and the band and backing vocals were awesome. Having the stringed orchestra made every song feel just I expected. Lynne isn't a showman at all, but he just plays the music the entire crown came to hear. There made not have been the old ELO spaceship on stage, but the ship showed up on the video screen and the lights and lasers made it feel like extraterrestrial experience. It was the last night of this tour and my group left ecstatic for the experience. The tickets had burned a hole in my pocket for 10 months, it was well worth it. I hope it doesn't take so long to come around again!
