JD McPherson In Concert
A JD McPherson concert is a rolling, tumbling, stomping, rumbling rock 'n' roll revival. When McPherson and his band hit the stage, his old-school R&B and first-gen rock 'n' roll influences really come to the fore, helping to make every show a party.
With his fire-breathing band helping him amp up the excitement, McPherson generates the kind of sound that makes it impossible for fans to sit still. So don't be surprised if people are jumping around and bopping up and down, even if it's a sit-down venue.
Whether McPherson and the boys are banging out his albums' most popular tunes — like "North Side Gal," "Let the Good Times Roll," and "Why Lady Why" — or serving up the occasional cover of classic tunes from some of his heroes, such as Nick Lowe's "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day," Billy Boy Arnold's "I Wish You Would," or Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run," it's impossible to resist their good-time vibes.
JD McPherson Background
JD McPherson started stirring up buzz in 2012 with his debut album, Signs and Signifiers, on Rounder Records, though the record first appeared on a smaller label two years earlier. Once a wider audience caught on to McPherson's raw, roots-conscious mix of 1950s/early '60s R&B, rock 'n' roll, and blues influences, McPherson's debut made its way to the top of Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
Since McPherson grew up in a rural part of Oklahoma, free from the distractions of city life, he spent his youth focusing on the old-school sounds he loved and learned how to channel them into something all his own. His second record, 2015's Let the Good Times Roll, pierced the Top 20 on the Rock Albums chart, earning him even more attention. For his third LP, 2017's Undivided Heart & Soul, McPherson modernized his approach a bit while still staying in touch with his musical roots.

Travelled from the UK to Bowery ballroom to see JD McPherson. Venue lovely, small & intimate. Crowd friendly & happy. Group “best ever” & so glad I was able to see them live. A fabulous experience
The show was awesome ! JD only comes through once every couple of years or so, but he really put on an amazing, spirited performance. He leaned very heavily on the new album, playing almost all the songs from it, but he also did some of the older songs as well, which people expected to hear. Unfortunately, there were a couple that he didn’t play, but that’s going to happen in a concert. It was a great time ! He really rocked and had a great rapport with the audience. The band was very tight. The audience loved them and the show. It was a great time.
For those who are unfamiliar with Rock n Roll but curious, this would be the show I wish I could gift to you. Check out JD and you will understand where Rock n Roll came from, where is now and where it is headed. The show was a rowdy good time. Not a dull moment or bad song in the set. Go, Go, Go!
JD McPherson and band were fantastic but the people running the sound were terrible. I would not recommend going to another show at the Atlantis DC. I would recommend going to see JD at any other venue. He has a great and original sound (even when that sound is being butchered by the venue folks).
I first discovered JD McPherson in 2011 and North Side Gal just set me down a path to becoming a fan. I have previously been unable to attend shows I purchased due to health issues so when I saw this album release show I had to try and go again and finally see him live. The show was fantastic the music and showmanship was wonderful. I was impressed by the amount of songs played and transitions made into the next track. He was friendly with the crowd and was grateful for his bandmates. I would definitely see him again and recommend anyone who loves great music to check him out.
I've been a JD fan for quite some time. This was my third time seeing him in concert. I traveled from NJ to Nashville to catch this show at The Brooklyn Bowl. (I always prefer seeing bands in a club atmosphere rather than an auditorium). After 2 hours of forgettable opening acts JD and the band hit the stage for a total of 70 minutes including the encore. Very disappointed in the length of the show. They performed most of the new record and some of the more popular older tunes. Just seems like some of the fun has gone out of their live show.
What an incredible show!!! He played most of his new album "Nite Owls"and peppered in a few of his other songs. The energy and musicianship was beyond the pale. He is such an incredible guitarist and his band compliments him perfectly. DON'T MISS JD!!!
the venue was perfect for the artist, the staff was pleasant, parking was easy. Would return to District Live for the right show again!
Music was Sound great. Sound was perfect for the venue. I have hip problems and am unable to stand for very long but found the only chairs available (2). I believe there should be some seating for people like me. Otherwise it was great.
