About

Jay & Silent Bob on Tour

Since first appearing as Jay and Silent Bob in the indie comedy hit Clerks in 1994, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith have commanded the loyalty of countless fellow slackers and misfits thanks to their outrageously foul-mouthed humor and inimitable chemistry.

Those fans may be as surprised as anyone by the duo's longevity. Smith first conceived of the characters as minor figures in Clerks, which the filmmaker based on his experiences working in a convenience store in New Jersey. He let Jay — closely based on Mewes, a friend of Smith's from high school — do most of the talking on screen. The characters proved so popular, Mewes and Smith brought them back for several more of Smith's films before they got a movie of their own in 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

In the fall of 2019, the twosome returned to the big screen in The Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, another comedy that features many other stars who Smith helped launch, including Ben Affleck. But it's Mewes and Smith who fans will most want to see when they come to cities across the U.S. for a special roadshow tour that combines screenings with live performances.

Jay & Silent Bob Background

One of the funniest (and foulest) comedy duos to ever hit the screen, Jay & Silent Bob have been slaying moviegoers, live audiences and comic-book readers since viewers first spotted them hanging outside a convenience store in Kevin Smith's 1994 comedy Clerks.

The partnership began when Smith wrote the character of Jay based on Jason Mewes, a high school friend with a real-life talent for outrageous quips and put-downs. Smith cast himself as Jay's taciturn sidekick Silent Bob. The characters were such a hit that they'd not only appear in many of Smith's later movies but star in their own comic book, an animated TV show and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, a 2001 cult hit that put the duo front and center on the big screen.

In 2019, Mewes and Smith re-teamed for The Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, a comedy that follows the continuing misadventures of their big-screen alter egos.

No Jay but Silent Bob was more than enough!

by Smithfan#1 on 2/4/20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Jay couldn't make the event sadly but even with back to back shows, Kevin was all energy and didn't disappoint with his funny and at times very heartfelt, answers. It started a bit late but ran until 2:00am, what a showman!

The show was great. The venue was a huge disappointment the seats small and uncomfortable. The legroom is non existant and to top it all off they didnt have any popcorn or any food consessions.

Kevin Smith & Jayson Mewes did an amazing job of entertaining the crowd. They told great and funny stories. The movie was hilarious and full of fun cameos. Afterwards I got to take a picture with both of them. They were super friendly and thankful for the support. I HIGHLY ENDORSE!!!

I’m a big Kevin Smith fan, but my wife was somewhat skeptical. We both had a great time, laughed a lot at the film, and enjoyed the Q and A. A great night out

Did not grow with the times

by Disappointed on 1/13/20Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I was really disappointed with the show. I loved them in the 90s. Was excited to see the new movie and see them live and in person. I’m all for juvenile humor and 90s cultural references. I kind of expected them to grow with the times on a few things, though. They didn’t. It’s clear they had no consultation with transgender folks before they filmed. The first scene of the movie involves a totally unnecessary scene where Jay thinks he can disguise his identity by tucking his genitals and claiming he’s a woman. This is SUPER painful to watch. Imagine being a trans woman and watching that scene, where you are basically the butt of that joke, and where the insinuation is that what makes a woman a woman is her genitals. Trans women are being killed at alarming rates because they are seen as inhuman jokes. It’s not okay to make jokes about trans women or about male actors “pretending to be women.” The movie continues with all white main characters and stereotyped, small roles for people of color who become caricatures of themselves and the butt of jokes. Jay at one point tells the one white teenager “you’re not broken like them” even though the only ways the young girls of color are “broken” are that they’re 1- deaf 2- fleeing from abuse 3- not talkative in an awkward way. The sign language in the film was pretty terrible, too. There were definitely some very funny moments and I could enjoy parts of the film, but mostly I was just mourning the loss of this aspect of my childhood. Until and unless Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes reach out to the trans community to apologize and get educated and consultation, and until they get more people of color consulting, their upcoming movies are going to be a hard pass for me.

    Meh...

by Pricefield on 1/13/20Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Fox's days of being a movie palace are long gone. If they are going to play movies there, they need a much larger screen. This event was also horribly overpriced. Mewes and Smith were cool, but for the price there needed to be more. More actor appearances and more interactivity would be an improvement. If Fox keeps raising their prices and delivering subpar events, I'm probably not going to go any more.

They're back but it's different enough to pay for it again.

by IronJoel on 12/12/19Neptune Theatre - Seattle

It was great! Show was fun. There was an intro by the dynamic duo and then the movie. They came out afterwards and answered questions. Show was great. Venue packed us in like sardines though, I don't need leg room for a movie... (They do a lot of concerts there, standing) otherwise I'd say go if they haven't hit your area yet.

    Always joyful and inspiring

by Mary M on 11/19/19Center Stage Theater - Atlanta

This is the second time i took my son (sound design major) to see a kevin smith film with kevin smith there to talk. My son gets so inspired at these and is blown away by how humble and down to earth kevin smith is. He was super excited to jason mewes as well at this one. I find these events fun and exciting but nothing beats your kid thanking you and telling you its been the best present and you can never top it.

    Entertaining movie; terrible experience

by BS on 11/19/19Center Stage Theater - Atlanta

While I found this movie very entertaining, this review is solely based on the experience I received at this venue. I arrived at the venue about 15 minutes prior the scheduled time provided to me by the organizers of the VIP. The venue had no clue as to what was supposed to be done with these VIPs and had several issues communicating any directions as to where to line up to allow entry into the venue. Once that issue was cleared up, there was no directions concerning when and where the meet & greet was going to be held. It was only after talking to a member of the security detail were we informed that it would be held after the movie. Then there is the matter of the seats. The screen was way too close and made the movie almost unwatchable. My wife had to leave 15 minutes into the movie as her neck was in pain from craning too hard. The 5x5 stage for the Q&A was almost hysterically small for two people. Lastly, due to the fact that there was a 2nd showing right after this event, the meet & greet was reduced to a drive-by photo op with minimal interaction with the hosts and no autographs allowed. Had I known that this was the experience I was paying for when the tickets went on sale, I would have just waited until the movie was released on Blu-ray.

    Needs better planning!

    by C. W. on 11/19/19Center Stage Theater - Atlanta

Payed extra for the special photo opportunity with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. They told us to arrive at 6:15pm for this and the show started at 8:00pm. There was absolutely no reason arrive that early because they didn't do the photos until after the show. Arrived early for nothing. Im pretty sure the photos were supposed to take place before the show, but someone messed up somewhere. Or at least, that's what all of us ended up thinking. Also, payed "a lot" extra money to sit up close. 3rd row to be exact. Turned out to be the worst decision because we were so close to the movie screen that we were practically looking straight up to watch the movie. Absolutely terrible planning. The rows should have been back more. You can tell that they were trying to fit as many people in there as possible to make more money. Didn't think about, or even care about the people. A lot of people payed a lot of extra money thinking they were getting something better, but it turned out to be an uncomfortable waste. Very disappointing! Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes were awesome though!
