JASON ISBELL IN CONCERT:
Alt-country singer/songwriter Jason Isbell is a master of writing songs that maximize the emotional impact of his heartrending voice. From his time with the Drive-By Truckers to his solo material with his band the 400 unit, Isbell has proven himself a consummate storyteller, building a loyal fanbase with his stripped-down, emotionally relatable songs. Riding high on the success of fourth album Southeastern, Isbell will support Ray LaMontagne on tour in 2014, rounding out his time on the road with select headline appearances of his own.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born and raised in Northern Alabama, Isbell grew up playing music, encouraged by his musical family to take up multiple instruments. After a brief stint as a songwriter, he joined southern rockers the Drive-By Truckers for their 2001 tour in support of their album Southern Rock Opera, staying on with the band as a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter until leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007. His debut album Sirens of the Ditch was well-received by critics, providing him enough momentum to put together a full band for 2009 sophomore outing Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. With his fourth studio album Southeastern topping critics’ lists in late 2013, Isbell once again hit the road for a string of highly anticipated 2014 tour dates.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Jason Isbell is awesome! He knows how to write a song and how to interact and entertain an audience. His band is great and they genuinely seem to enjoy what they do."
" Jason is an entertainer that writes from his soul and you can feel it in his performances. I would recommend anyone seeing him and his band."
" Jason Isbell and his band put on a phenomenal show, as they always do. The crowd was excited and engaged."

I’ve been to Jason Isbell shows starting when he was with the Drive-by Truckers. I've seen him doing solo acts in small bars and gigs as big as Red Rocks Amphitheater. Never once have I walked away from the live show feeling less than inspired.
the Lyric is gorgeous, Jason Isbell is so talented, perfect combination!
An acoustic concert by Jason Isbell in Birmingham’s beautifully-restored Lyric Theater was a sold-out love fest for the reelection of Senator Doug Jones (D, AL). Applause and cheers for Isbell’s old hits and songs on his album due to be released in May shook the rafters for both him and Doug!
Jason Isbell is a wondereful singer/songwriter. The show was Jason and his wife Amanda Shires, who plays fiddle for his band and had an accomplished career of her own. The intimacy with just the two of them playing songs from various albums could not be beat.
Mr. Isbell and Ms. Shires sound fantastic and have a wonderful rapport both with each other and with the audience. Too many highlights to mention but I will say the Blaisdell Concert Hall's acoustics are perfect for this sort of low key, singer/songwriter concert. Really just fantastic sound. An unforgettable evening!
Awesome, loved the concert. Venue was perfect, sound was great! Started on time, which was nice. Only objection was the loads of people arriving late was distracting.
Jason Isbell always plays an amazing show; having Amanda Shires on stage with just the two of them made it a quieter (but still rocking!), more intimate event. They played nonstop (with a short break before the encore). So happy to have them in Honolulu at last! I postponed a trip to the mainland so I could be here for the concert. And opener Jenny Yim was a real treat—what a positive surprise to enjoy her poise, range, and talent.
Worth every penny !-.............,,,,,,,,ccccccccc
Fabulous set list. Tight guitar playing, vocals were awesome and of course his lyrics. The show left us wondering if we like his acoustic set better than his full band set. We still can’t decide, both are incredible.
This was my first Jason Isbell live experience. All I can say is wow. Springsteen is still the Boss of live Americana but it’s good to know there is another story telling songwriter with chops on the scene. Jason has the rare ability to take how and what I am feeling/felt and put it into words. He’s a genius for sure. I am glad I went.
Seeing Jason Isbell at the Kings Theater was a lifetime highlight. He’s one of the best singer-songwriters and one of the top performers I have ever seen. Each member of the 400 Unit is also top notch. Amanda Shires (Isbell’s wife) is a mean fiddler and her singing along with Jason is deeply moving. King’s theater is gorgeous. I had seen Jason Isbell last year at the Beacon, and this venue is way better. The sound was perfect and really enahced the show. Amazing night, it was really special.
Great show. Amazing renovation on venue. Check it out
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit put on a solid, tight show that has been replaying in my head; even while I’m sleeping. The playlist was deep in the catalogue with The Nashville Sound well represented. A bit of level issues on the sound up in the balcony, but overall a solid experience. Can’t leave a review without lauding the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. Beautiful! The staff is the nicest I can recall. All of MSG should go there to take lessons on how to treat patrons!
All and all it was a solid show. I would have personally preferred if he played some more of his older stuff, but isn’t that typical of most artists. The sound mix could have been a little better, it was not always consistent. This was especially true when Jason hit his high notes. I would pay to see him again.
Everyone in my family is a huge Jason Isbell fan. My teenage daughters began listening to him with the release of "Southeastern" and I quickly latched on after seeing him open for Ray LaMontagne a few years ago. I've seen him four times since. I would not have thought it possible, but he is better every time I see him. His band - the 400 Unit - is as tight as they come. And when his wife, Amanda Shires, joins them, the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts. This guy can move seamlessly between aching country ballads and hard rock. He is as versatile as any artist I have ever seen, and I believe he is the most well-rounded performer currently in action. Don't sit on the fence. Just go see him.
Great venue and great show. A perfect setting for awesome music. Facilities and vending was great.
The Nashville Sound is the latest work of art from Jason. His body of work is growing. Live from Alabama was my intro to Jason and the 400 unit, so he has more A+ material for another live album. Go see this tour if you can. If you are a fan it is a must.
This band is one of the most underrated acts in the country Hope they get their due recognition soon
Great show by Jason Isbell and his band, The 400 Unit! The evening kicked off with a wonderful set by his wife Amanda Shires and her band. A must see concert!!!
