About

James Taylor in Concert

James Taylor is the archetypal singer/songwriter, who helped create the template for the troubadour style that dominated the 1970s. And when he brings his blend of folk, pop, rock, and soul influences to the stage, it's like a part of history is unfolding before the crowd, with enough tuneful energy to generate some major good-time vibes. The five-time Grammy-winning, multi-platinum songsmith offered up tracks like "Fire and Rain" and "You've Got a Friend" to the collective pop-cultural consciousness in the '70s, and they've stayed there ever since. Of course, he's continued to make compelling music for many decades, and his shows are a grab bag of transfixing new tunes and beloved classics. Taylor's 2018 tour with his All-Star Band (not to be confused with Ringo Starr's similarly named group) also shows how much a crew of world-class players can bring to a classic catalog. Some of the most renowned musicians on the planet lend their talents to the band, including drumming god Steve Gadd, hotshot jazz pianist Kevin Hays, legendary saxman Lou Marini, and more.

James Taylor Background

James Taylor was born in Boston, but moved to North Carolina a few years later, and the bucolic settings of his childhood eventually informed the pastoral side of his songwriting in a major way. He learned guitar in his adolescence, soaking up folk and blues influences before hitting the coffeehouse circuit in the '60s. Before too long he was in Greenwich Village fronting a band called The Flying Machine, but he soon emerged as a solo singer/songwriter. His 1970 album ‘Sweet Baby James' became a game-changer for the whole '70s music scene. Alongside the likes of Carole King and Joni Mitchell, Taylor epitomized the thoughtful, acoustic-based ballad style that came to dominate the era, and ubiquitous hits like "Fire and Rain" and "Country Road" were central to that style. In later years Taylor showed his versatility by scoring smash singles with covers of R&B tunes like Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and Jimmy Jones' '50s hit "Handyman," and Taylor has never stopped finding fresh ways to bring his work to the huge audience that's been addicted to his music for decades.

My wife and I have seen James Taylor perform a few times before and we are big fans but nothing before compares to what we saw and heard last night . J.T. and Carole King together was amazing and unforgettable.

    Very Nice

    by mikberg1090 on 6/20/10TD Garden - Boston

I was most impressed with Carole King. She can still sing and play, despite her age. They played many old classics; but I recognized more of hers than his. Of course she did the Tapestry hits; but she did a few of her songs that others have recorded like Aretha Franklin's Natural Woman. I would have liked to hear more of the hit songs she wrote but others performed.

Only songs missing were Copperline and Tapestry. The rest was excellent.

Great Show, Not So Great Sound System

by WhinyMcGee on 6/20/10TD Garden - Boston

This show had everything you could ask for - all the hits and then some, a great band and great chemistry (which I guess comes naturally). The only problem I had was with the venue itself - of course they sold out the arena to a packed and very lively house, but the sound system made some of the lyrics and on-stage banter unintelligible (please note that this was from the balcony section - the sound may have been better closer to the stage).

    Tremendous show!!

    by Leenie5 on 6/20/10TD Garden - Boston

The show was truly wonderful.....so many songs brought back memories and transported me to an earlier time in my life.....Carole King's and James Taylor's songs and voices ar the soundtrack for my life, beginning when I was a young girl and continuing through my teen years and beyond. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to see them perform their beautiful songs together. Thank you for giving us such an enjoyable and moving experience.

James Taylor & Carole King - You Rock!

by KPfromCT on 6/20/10TD Garden - Boston

This was a tremendous concert. The venue was great - I loved the revolving stage and the TV screens all over. Carole and James were wonderful & very personable - they seem like they genuinely love doing what they do. Even though there were thousands of people there, it felt like a more intimate setting. The band and backup singers added to the show without taking over, and the result was magical. We drove three hours each way to get to the concert, and it was well worth the trip!

Awesome! Energetic, involved the crowd. Rotating stage helped everyone see all of the performers. Carole King & James Taylor's voices were strong & sweet after many years.

    Phenomenal Show

by oldiesguru on 6/20/10TD Garden - Boston

What do you think it's like to have 17,000 people recognize your songs from the first chord and sing along quietly to every song you wrote?? WOW!! They have both touched so many lives for so many years. Two great and talented isinger/songwriters who gave their all, making this much more than a concert; it was a real show! The revolving stage, large screens and great videos all added to this amazing event. They seemed to enjoy being there as much as we loved hearing and seeing them live! Their friendship added so much energy to this quality performance.

Great show. Very first class-the artists were exxcellent-great sound, great back up singers and band, I wouldn't change a thing. All of the favorite songs were done, the energy from Carole King was amazing while James Taylor was as always, like listening to the voice of an angel singing. The chemistry between the two of them was great-you can sense how happy they were to be there-lots of fun & very great evening!

    Outstanding

by Tenalovesmusic on 6/20/10TD Garden - Boston

Words just can't express how fantastic this show was. James was at his best (complete with adorable sense of humor). Carole really rocked the house. She just lights up on stage and that feeling was contagious. The energy was amazing. I really liked the songs they chose - -can't fit them all in! It was a great representation of the music of these two legends. LOVE them both.
