Amazing performance, incredibly moving and heart felt. They all did a great job!
I didn’t realize how deep and dark Alanis Morissette music was until I watched jagged Little pill. It addresses with just about every subject matter for our times from rape and sexuality to family drama, Adoption, rage, and forgiveness. The lead actress who played the mother was fantastic. I think she also played the lead in next to normal. This is a very similar dark story. The lesbian love interest knocked it out of the water with her solo song, and the dancing has a very modern aggressive flair which adds to the darkness and urgency of the piece. If you like Alanis Morissette I would strongly recommend this, if you don’t I’m not sure what to tell you because I was addicted to jagged little pill I must’ve listen to it at least 1000 times. This story seamlessly weaves her songs through a dark and turbulent narrative but with a positive somewhat optimistic outlook in the vein of they words and album itself. The story eventually strips away all pretenses and leaves the audience wondering, how can I be more authentically myself and serve myself and those around me better.
Wasn’t even sure I if I wanted to see this play but it turned out to be one of the best I have seen!
Incredible cast, brilliant direction and choreography, clever and poignant story utilizing Morrisette's lyrics. It's a must see. (Warning: Some of the musical numbers can get very loud, ear plugs may be helpful.)
We couldn’t understand most of the words to the songs. I think the sound wasn’t good and even some of the reviews said the same thing. Sone actors were good, some not so good. It seemed like some of the actors were screaming the lyrics. It’s not a great play but some of the scenes were staged in an interesting way. I wasn’t bored but when I watched sone of the videos from the Broadway production it looked a lot better.
Not knowing what to expect going into the show, it was amazing how the music "made the story." Although it was about Alanis, it was not was I expected (1 person playing the main character singing all of the songs). Each character sang the songs and/or parts of the song, which perfectly fit their story. The topics. The emotions. The songs. And not to mention those voices!!! An amazing production!
Alanis Morissette is among the greatest lyrists and song writers in the modern world. To see her words and music brought to life in a story that she supports is an experience like no other. This show tackles twenty-first century topics like race and sexuality, but reaches back to strike the heart strings on topics like family, power, addiction, rape, pain, and healing. Jagged Little Pill is a must watch for everyone of an appropriate age but will land in a special way with the millennial generation. It's about time that Alanis came out from under that rug.
I can’t say enough good things about this show. The storyline, the activism, the intersectionality, the performance, the music, the choreography… all spectacular
Very entertaining musical with outstanding vocals. Great performances from younger cast as well. Great justice to Alanis album. Highly recommend it!
My sister and I love Alanis. Her music was perfectly used to tell the story. We enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend it to other music lovers. Cast was fabulous, especially Heidi Blickenstaff!
Didn't know that I would be taken on such a roller coaster of emotions with this musical. A "happy" family of four experiences real world trauma (opioid abuse, sexuality issues, assault) and has to come together and face these head on. The album songs were well incorporated into the drama, along with several newly written ones. The actors were very engaging and really projected a lot of emotions via their songs. The choreography was excellent with the cast performing very intense, frenetic moves. Numerous wonderful set pieces were exchanged thru out the musical. The best performance, IMHO, was "You outta know" with the angry, heartbroken "Jo" lambasting the ex. That brought tears to my eyes, as the character sang with such vivid, emotional fury. A must see, but be prepared to go through a series of emotions.
What a great show the cast was amazing, just a great theatre experience
This was pure genius. My fav scene was the backwards scene to my fav “SMILING”.
I am not a big fan of musicals…at all!!! But I love this album and thought I’d take a chance. I took one of my dearest friends. We’re both 51 and this album was a big part of our lives in the 90’s. I did not know what to expect and the fact that I was either crying or laughing throughout the entire show was just an overwhelming surprise. The story they created out of this album and all the important relevant issues in life they touch upon is so moving and the way it was expressed is just perfect and beautiful! When I got home I posted on my social media how incredible this show is and how everyone needs to go. And I think I may have become a fan of musicals after all. I’m already looking into what I’ll be seeing next.
I love the Jagged Little Pill album and absolutely loved watching the songs come to life in a new way. It felt like the songs were written just for this show. Performances were stellar, the story was captivating. Hands down favorite musical I’ve seen in years.
I went in knowing that I would love the music because Alanis Morissette's song catalog has been the soundtrack of Generation X. I was expecting an entertaining story, written by Diablo Cody but I was NOT expecting the story to hit so hard and so powerfully. The performances by the players were stunning, I was really impressed by the entire experience. This show is HIGHLY recommended.
One of the top 5 Broadway Musicals of all time. Contemporary subject matter pared well with the age old , emotional journey that one hopes to take at musicals The cast was beyond talented so if you get the chance to see this particular cast, then make the effort to do so. In short, this is a okay I’d see time and time again
I loved this thought provoking dramatic comedy. The lyrics by Alanis were poignant and the writer of this musical perfectly infused them into the storyline. I have Gwen raving about this since I saw it. So blessed that I had the opportunity to watch this with my husband.
Love the album, Jagged Little Pill and was really looking forward to seeing the musical. The production looked great, but the sound was terrible. It was nearly impossible to understand the lyrics. I feel terrible for the actors. They appeared to be enunciating, but this seems to be an ongoing problem at this venue, the Pantages Theatre. The problem was especially bad for this production. Sadly, I love this venue, but they really need to fix the problem. Many audience members around us complained about the sound as well.
Same as my comments above. Theatre is amazing and my seat was very good as well.
