All I Really Want…is my money back

by VenusV on 2/7/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

I’m usually an easy audience for anything musical theatre related, but this was probably the worst show I’ve ever seen. I’ve loved this album eternally and thought at least the music could get me through the hot mess of a storyline, but ugh just no. Save your cash, and remember the music fondly.

    Great Music, Acting and Emotional

by MSavage on 2/7/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

I enjoyed the show thoroughly, back in the 90's I did not realize the meanings behind most of Alanis songs, I just thought Jagged Little Pill was a great album. To see the songs brought to life in front of my eyes was awesome, enlightening and gave me a whole new appreciation for her music. The performances by all cast members were fantastic especially Julie Reiber who played Mary Jane. She really made me feel for the character and anytime I feel something I'm in and appreciate it. Thank You Alanis Thank You Cast and Thank You Silence

Loved every minute of it! Very powerful, moving story line, and electric choreography. I'd see it a 2nd or 3rd time if I could!

    You Oughta Know

    by sheila71rao on 2/6/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

I was pleasantly surprised with this touring. I have wanted to see this play in NY, but haven't had the chance to. When I found out that Jagged Little Pill was coming to Arizona, I booked tickets immediately. The performance was definitely more than I expected. The story line was definitely for a teen and up audience. I was so glad I took my 16 year old daughter, as she really enjoyed it as well. There were so many current day issues that were eye opening for the both of us, but needed to be addressed, especially as my daughter heads to college in the near future. The performers were incredible! Definitely worth to see! The storyline tied in the songs so well. I highly highly recommend!

    Fantastic Show

by Stacey on 2/6/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

I wasn't sure what to expect. A friend passed on going having heard it was depressing. The show was extemely topical, but done in a way that wasn't preachy. When Jo sings "You outta know"I got chills! Jade McLeod was fabulous! Their voice was powerful, full of emotion and so expressive. Wonderful performance. Definitely worth seeing. I'd see it again.

Great musical performance. They touched on controversial topics with respect and humor. The performers were incredible and the songs were sung beautifully. The best show I have been to in a while.

    Extremely weak, typical story line.

by Mer on 2/6/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

The Alanis songs were good but overall the story line lacked significantly. Singing and dancing was just so/so. It really didn't do anything for me

    Bring back Jagged Little Pill!

by Best Musical Ever on 2/6/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

Jagged Little Pill is the best modern musical I've ever seen. I was so happy Gammage brought it to AZ. Please bring it back for another future season.

Great show with a great message!

by JJJHHH on 2/6/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

I will start off by saying I am not a regular musical show attendee at all so I cannot critique the technical aspects of the show. The show was extremely well thought out and I thought delivered an outstanding message so much so that my wife took my 14 year old daughter to the show on the last night it was in Tempe. The way that the music from the Jagged Little Pill album was incorporated into the story was amazing! Everyone involved in this show should be extremely proud of the work that they put into the entire production!

    Mind blown!

by Nicole M on 2/5/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

Wow! This was so fantastic! 28 years ago, as a teen, I listened to this album on repeat. What an awesome experience to hear all these beloved songs revitalized and re-imagined! To share this musical with my 13 year old daughter was such a treasure. I heard the recommendation was 14+, but let’s be honest, there was nothing in this she couldn’t handle, and I bought her the original Broadway vinyl as a souvenir. The most impressive was Jade McCleod as Jo! What a powerhouse! I would buy tickets for another night just to hear them perform again!!! Please come back to Phoenix, so we can go again!

    Felt like a rough draft

by Ethan on 2/5/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

The music from the album is amazing and stands the test of time. The play was good but the choreography combined with how the music worked into the plot felt like a rough draft… like they are story boarding an idea but didn’t quite finish the details. Overall it was good and enjoyable… but it fell short of being great.

    Phenomenal show with powerful voices

    by Brent_Tab_EMir on 2/5/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

This show was amazing. Casting did well with actors selected. The cast powerfully told the complex and hard hitting storyline with force, grace, tears and laughter. No point was lost and no song lacking. This performance hits in every way. I had a desire to see this show again, but the short run limited me to a single showing. I do highly recommend this show to others. Please read the content warnings for the show and know what you are getting into.

    Fantastic

by Knows things on 2/5/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

If you love Alanis Music you will love the show and the vocals were phenomenal!! Although one family had a lot happen the story line is pretty realistic on what teens growing up feel, what can happen in a marriage and how easily people can become addicted… fantastic show!

Slightly Better Than a High School Musical

by Brandon on 2/5/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

It was okay. I wouldn't say I was disappointed, but I wouldn't jump to sit through it again - I'd probably just play my Alanis playlist and be more satisfied. The storyline was adequate but only to provide a visual context and storyline to Alanis' portfolio. There seemed to be a bit too much culture war signage and topics included in this, as I've never seen Morrissette's catalog as politically-charged, at least to the level they took this musical. I'm about as progressive as they come and I was a bit tired of the culture war brow beating in several scenes. Some of the actors' voices were amazing (Mary Jane and Jo stood out), especially the passionate You Oughta Know. The "Jagged Little Pill"album is a masterpiece. The play, however, doesn't fully live up to the album that it's paying tribute to.

    Excellent show!

by dp on 2/4/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

Powerful show with fantastic music! A bit more political than I would normally prefer but the underlying message was poignant and the performers were outstanding. It was interesting how they would mix in comedic remarks during the dialogue on a serious topic, almost as a way to deflect from an otherwise emotional response.

    Jagged Little Pill - Fantastic!

by Stella on 2/4/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

What an amazing musical -- dealing with so many of our families' problems today from addiction to friction within the family unit to ignoring those who love you and you love to no one understands what "I'm"going through. Music was fantastic! Vocals of the mom and daughter were unbelievable. Thank you for bringing this level of entertainment to the Valley!

    High Energy

by jodog on 2/3/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

The voices blended in amazingly well. The singing occasionally morphed into screaming and ended up too loud, maybe a mixing board problem. The subject matter is a bit rough around the edges but it is what it is. I probably would not be comfortable bringing my grandchildren but they would wonder what is my problem. I loved the music especially the duets with Francis and Phoenix. Please note that I bothered to answer this request and typed out something like the above and then was directed to sign in. When I signed in the review disappeared. Not good.
