Jacob Collier In Concert
Jacob Collier has long had a voice and talent far beyond his years. The North London, England-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, producer, and all-around music theory prodigy has music in his blood — literally. Collier's mother, Susan, is a music teacher, conductor, and violinist at London's Royal Academy of Music, the same place his grandfather taught. As a kid, Jacob attended The Purcell School for Young Musicians and performed in productions of Mozart's The Magic Flute and Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw.
But it wasn't until Collier began experimenting on his own that his music career took off. At age 17, he began uploading complex music videos that showed every vocal and instrumental part of a song, including keys, strings, percussion, and even as many as 14 vocal harmonies. These impressive videos, featuring covers of songs by artists like Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach, and George Gershwin, quickly went viral, enough to get the attention of legendary musician Quincy Jones. Around the same time, a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab began working with Collier on a one-man multimedia experience to capture all of his talents at once in a live setting.
By 2015, the then 20-year-old was ready to debut his technologically stunning show, featuring effects like 3D video loops and a vocal harmonizer, in London. Soon after, he took the show to Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival, where he opened for Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, and then onward to stages across the globe.
Already a master performer, Collier soon got to work on his debut album, In My Room, which came out in summer 2016. Just like his shows, the album was all Jacob — he wrote, arranged, played every instrument, and recorded the entire album on his own, all in his family's London home. The following year, two of the covers featured on the album, Stevie Wonder's "You and I" and ‘The Flintstones' theme song "Flintstones," won Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement.
After two-and-half grueling years on the road, including collaborations and performances with orchestras from around the world, Collier took time to work on his follow-up release. He announced that his second album would actually be a four-volume set, with the first volume, Djesse (Vol. 1) appearing in late 2018. Stay tuned for plenty more music from this unstoppable phenom.

Jocob’s spectral wanderings absolutely astound, but it’s just too loud. The building was vibrating in a not okay in an earthquake zone kinda way.
Hands down the best live concert I've ever attended in my life! From the beginning to the last encore, the production was absolutely impeccable (including the lighting), and every performance was full of joyous energy and virtuosity expressed by Jacob and every member of his band. The most magical moment was the 'audience choir', with Jacob conducting over 8,000 of us singing in harmony. The massive wave of sound resonated through my entire body as we all united as one, and it truly felt like ascending to heaven. So blown away by the power of his live performance that we are seriously thinking of flying to attend the last concert on his Djesse tour in London!
Jacob is a Master of all! So engaging, energizer bunny, colorful, he is one of the most spectacular musicians I've ever seen and had the pleasure to listen to. I will most definitely see him again!
I was not familiar with Jacob Collier when we got the tickets. My husband, who is a musician, wanted to go so I tagged along reluctantly. I am so glad I went. This was one of the very best concerts I have ever attended and I have been to many, many concerts. The musicianship was wonderful, of course, but what really wowed me was his energy. He created such a good vibe that you couldn't help but have a great time. I haven't stopped thinking about it and smiling since we saw the show.
The concert was amazing, front to back. Living in LA, we were privileged to have guest stars John Legend and Tori Kelly come out and perform with Jacob. The Greek is one of our favorite venues due to its intimate size and seating - there isn't a bad seat in the house, just more close or less close. Jacob sang and played and ran back and forth between multiple instruments, and his band was dope individually and as a collective. The most magical moment was the crowd participation - everyone sang and he conducted us like another instrument. Amazing show, and I would definitely see it again.
Didn't disappoint, special songs, incredible surprise guests (Tori Kelly and John Legend!!) lead by a kind and beautiful human. It's a special experience.
The Jacob Collier event at the Greek was amazing! Such a talented performer! Great collaborations. Such diversity of music. Everyone enjoyed it!
I really can’t say enough about Jacob Collier and his band. The experience they bring is transcendent. They don’t just play their songs, they creatively interpret them differently every time. Songs they did the last time I saw them were fresh and new this time. The level of musicianship and showmanship is superb. Jacob appears to be as natural playing every instrument on the stage as he is taking a breath and it allows him to have a genuine good time with the audience. He engaged us and included us and made everyone feel welcome and valued. He also brings such a positive energy to the stage, it’s impossible to not have a smile on your face. And then there was when he got Lawrence, John Legend, and Tori Kelly to come out and sing with him…what a treat to see all these wonderfully talented people in a single show! My wife had never seen Jacob before and now she’ll be a lifetime fan. I brought the whole family and we all left happy and inspired. Can’t wait to see Jacob again!!!
JACOB COLLIER!!!!!! is one of the most best and talented musicians i’ve ever seen live! this was my third time seeing him and he never fails to impress me! i’ll continue to see him live until i DIE!!!
Jacob Collier is an absolute magnificent performer and singer. He know how to engage an audience like no one I’ve ever seen before. His talent is unmatchable and his energy is incredible. What a show. I can’t wait to see him again and again and again.
I knew Jacob Coller was a beautiful singer and a master of harmony, particularly choral harmony. But I did not know he was also an endlessly entertaining fountain of joyful music. The opening act was a young woman with a lovely voice who sang monotonous, dull songs, played some sort of synth, and, later showed a rudimentary lack of ability on the guitar. She was such a bore that it was entertaining just to see her leave. How do such mediocre acts get attached to open shows like this? But then, after an overly long interval, Jacob Collier came on with a rush of energy and talent, and the entire Greek Theater turned into a whirlpool of Collier's amazingly harmonious magic. He even transformed the entire crowd into a choir, a transformative event he loves to lead, so suddenly, the whole crowd was making music with him. Many of the songs he performed are beloved standards, but his reharmonizations give them such a magical twist that it's like hearing an old song in an entirely new way—a near-total transformation. Collier's original songs are engaging, and his instrumentals are powerful, whether with his synth, his guitars, his basses, his drum set, or— most of all—his perfect vocals. And then Tori Amos and John Legend came on with great applause and were outstanding when they sang with him, particularly on Collier's rendition of Paul Simon's BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, which is a choral masterpiece in which all of the voices in the choir are Jacob Colliers; and he performed it live. He plays his various vocal parts and sings over them with a synth that uses his own voice for every part of his amazing harmonies. This young man is often called a genius, but at the Greek, he proved that he is also a wonderful entertainer. My only critiques are that the lighting guys seemed a bit confused about which parts of the stage to illuminate and that whoever was choosing the camera angles of the big jumbotrons frequently missed cutting to the cameras of the featured performers. But other than that, it was a show I will always remember. It was excellent.
First time seeing Jacob Collier live, he put on an amazing show! Such a talented, gracious, entertaining, positive vibe. Hard not to love this guy!
Loved every second of this show. The music was fun and exciting. We left inspired and invigorated. Jacob’s talent is beyond and his back up vocalist was phenomenal. Can’t wait for more in the future.
3rd time seeing Jacob Collier, and The Greek is the perfect setting. Great seats and sounds everywhere in the venue. Love The Greek. The drink prices are absolutely out of control we paid $118 for just two(2), double(barely) margaritas. Those are the most expensive drinks we’ve seen anywhere in LA. Absolutely criminal and a rip-off. They were already poured when the price was announced, also very sketchy. Forces to people to sneak their own drinks in, which is forbidden. Feels like a trap.
J Collier has so much talent. As if you’re watching several different, best in class, on various instruments, superstars at once. Genius! This show was my 2nd. First was Hollywood Bowl. I loved HB but this 2nd show made me realize how much more fun and how much more engaging he could be. This 2nd show people bought tickets to see him. I’m sure it was sold out. At the HB, it was part of a jazz package and I heard many ppl saying they didn’t know who he was. 😳 this show, people, all ages, all demos, sang along, danced along, sang joyously as part of his audience choir. It so beautiful when he does this. It was a fully immersive experience. AND then he brought our John Legend….aaahhh. He always brings out superstars. a must see show.
Jacob Collier is an amazingly talented performer, musician, and harmonizer! I looked forward to his show for months and he did not disappoint! Jacob is healing the world through his magical performances, engaging personality, and outstanding talent as a musician, artist, and teacher. Can't wait to see what he creates next.
Jacob pushes the boundaries of music and harmonization in his recorded music, and is able to replicate that live in a fun, exciting, entertaining fashion!
Everything about the Jacob Collier concert was spectacular. I loved every moment of it. I was especially surprised and delighted to see and hear Erin Bentlage. A special treat for my daughter and I as we are big fans of Säge. The venue, on the other hand, was disappointing. The only parking was located in one parking garage with long lines of cars trying to get in and after the concert we had to wait forever just to get out. The folding-chair seating was uncomfortable and cramped. I wish I had just purchased lawn seating, because they ended up closing access to the lawn, so all of those folks were herded up and standing in front of the stage. So, a really great concert, but a Not-So-Great Venue.
For all the people who know Jacob, you already know what to expect, he'll surpass any expectations you might have no doubt. For all the people who don't know Jacob, you might be surprised of the amount of interaction between Jacob and his community. We're all there enjoying ourselves and having a great time, and the best part is you can hop in with us! :) Amazing singing, amazing show, amazing sound, simply amazing.
