About

Jacob Collier In Concert

Jacob Collier has long had a voice and talent far beyond his years. The North London, England-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, producer, and all-around music theory prodigy has music in his blood — literally. Collier's mother, Susan, is a music teacher, conductor, and violinist at London's Royal Academy of Music, the same place his grandfather taught. As a kid, Jacob attended The Purcell School for Young Musicians and performed in productions of Mozart's The Magic Flute and Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw.

But it wasn't until Collier began experimenting on his own that his music career took off. At age 17, he began uploading complex music videos that showed every vocal and instrumental part of a song, including keys, strings, percussion, and even as many as 14 vocal harmonies. These impressive videos, featuring covers of songs by artists like Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach, and George Gershwin, quickly went viral, enough to get the attention of legendary musician Quincy Jones. Around the same time, a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab began working with Collier on a one-man multimedia experience to capture all of his talents at once in a live setting.

By 2015, the then 20-year-old was ready to debut his technologically stunning show, featuring effects like 3D video loops and a vocal harmonizer, in London. Soon after, he took the show to Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival, where he opened for Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, and then onward to stages across the globe.

Already a master performer, Collier soon got to work on his debut album, In My Room, which came out in summer 2016. Just like his shows, the album was all Jacob — he wrote, arranged, played every instrument, and recorded the entire album on his own, all in his family's London home. The following year, two of the covers featured on the album, Stevie Wonder's "You and I" and ‘The Flintstones' theme song "Flintstones," won Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement.

After two-and-half grueling years on the road, including collaborations and performances with orchestras from around the world, Collier took time to work on his follow-up release. He announced that his second album would actually be a four-volume set, with the first volume, Djesse (Vol. 1) appearing in late 2018. Stay tuned for plenty more music from this unstoppable phenom.

This was my second Jacob Collier concert! I took my little sister (it was her first ever concert) and we both loved it! We got general admission standing and were pretty close to the stage. Jacob is insanely talented and kind and makes the concert fun, exciting, and interactive. I plan on seeing him again next time he’s in Boston!

    The greatest

by Alex on 4/27/24Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

I have never seen an artist pour so much love into every single aspect of a performance, and to have the crowd so connected it was absolutely beautiful. Venue was a lil awkward, had to sit sideways in my seat to watch, wasn’t allowef to stand…definitely hard not having a dance party.

    Jacob Collier is Amazing

by JB on 4/26/24Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

This concert did not disappoint! Jacob Collier and his band are amazing musicians and he has a way with connecting with the crowd to create a memorable experience. The only thing that would have made it 5 star would be, the opening act could have been a little more lively, and the venue didn't have big screens to see more details of the performance, so we felt a little removed from where we were sitting.

    Top 5 Concert

by KMac on 4/25/24Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Jacob Collier is simply astonishing: immensely gifted, energy super-rich, genuine, authentic, grateful, brilliant. I’ve never seen a musical artist collaborate — commune — with their audience at the level Jacob does. Fantastic band/backup musicians, fun tech/lights, great diversity of music. 11/10 would recommend.

    Magical

by Jan on 4/25/24Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

We sat right at the back but it was still the most magical experience! So many styles, so many genres, intense audience participation. The vocalists were great - and the lighting was fantastic. Next time, getting better seats!

    Do yourself a favor...

    by Sharlabee on 4/17/24

GO SEE HIM LIVE!! He is a musical genius. I don't live all of his recorded music, but his capability is incredible. The live concert with just him and a few instruments was the best performance I've ever seen.

Musical genius, to state the obvious

by Sara on 4/17/24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I have listened to Jacob Collier and marvelled at his knowledge, his skill, his talent, and his sense of fun, but I wasn't prepared for how his performance on April 14 would transform music into a life changing experience. I have come away with a new shift of perspective. I haven't felt this intense reaction to a performance since Bobby McFerrin. I have heard people call Jacob Collier the Mozart of our time. Absolutely, yes.

    by urmum on 6/28/23

I saw him at the Segerstrom Theatre and he was incredible. His improvisation throughout the concert was jaw dropping, and he was so interactive with the crowd. Harmonies, Acoustics, everything was on point. If you get the chance to see him, it would be stupid not to go
