what an honor to be part of his 80th birthday celebration he was fantastic
I've been to many Itzhak Perlman concerts, but this was the first Klezmer concert I've been to of his. Outstanding! The fact that it was his 80th birthday celebration made it even more special! I wish I could go to a concert like this every night! It was that good....! Happy Birthday, Mr. Perlman!!!!
Itzhak is always incredible to listen to. But with this backup Klezma band, it was beyond any of my expectations!!
What a joyous evening, filled with beautiful music and presented in such a fun way. We truly loved celebrating this master of the violin's 80th birthday. It was a once in a lifetime evening.
This was an amazing performance. Of course, Itzhak is a master and a treasure. It is a real treat to see a stage full of master musicians working with him. The energy in the room was so positive and exciting. There was such a sense of joy and camaraderie both on stage and in the audience. It was a couple hours of no stress - all peace.
I don't know how to put into words the experience of attending this concert. It was transcendent and I mean no hyperbole here. Itzhak and his talents are stuff of legend and I consider it an actual honor to have the opportunity to watch him play. The rest of the band (the Klezmatics and assorted others), were an additional treat, dare I say blessing. I had never seen this music played before, but tonally, recognized it from film. To experience it live with this group of talented artists was other-worldly. I couldn't stop my head from moving, my hands from clapping or my feet from tapping. The energy was contagious. All of Beacon Theater was alight in an energy that can only be described as JOYFUL. At one point, the band had the house lights up and invited people to dance in the aisles. And dance they did. Couples, strangers, even people like myself, attending the show alone, danced, light as air, holding hands with one another, wearing the most genuine and beautiful smiles I can remember seeing -- perhaps ever. That this show occurred in celebration of Itzhak's 80th birthday, during the high holidays, at this most serious time in our history, was a gift I will cherish the rest of my life.
The concert was terrific! Perlman was fabulous and played in every number. All the musicians were exceptional, especially the clarinetist and mandolin player. Our seats were in the back center of the live and we could see and hear very well. A great experience.
Itzhak can still play beautifully. But what made the evening so memorable was the man himself. I’ve long admired him for his exquisite playing and hearsay that he’s a wonderful person. He was engaging, warm. humble yet confident and Funny. I’ve attended other “An Evening With…” programs eg, William Shatner, Jerry Lewis. Those nights were interesting and enjoyable. This was different: Perlnan covered all significant times of his life and upbringing. Spoke directly of contracting polio at age three; his early childhood; growth as violinist; anecdotes about close friends; warm stories of his parents, wife, kids and grandkids. He is gentle yet very strong. Funny. A true delight
More than a concert- learned itzhak Perlman’s life story accompanied by beautiful music.
What a great evening! Mr. Perlman was fantastic! Loved his telling of his childhood and his journey. His jovial demeanor was refreshing and fun to listen to. His playing was absolutely superb! What an absolute honor seeing one of the best, if not the best, violinists in the world. So glad I was able to attend.
