About

Best known by the moniker Iron & Wine, Samuel Beam's stunning acoustic guitar and quiet voice once again made waves with the release of Ghost on Ghost, his fifth studio album. This largely experimental record delves into the supposedly disparate worlds of pop, R&B and jazz, meanwhile proving the singer's impressive versatility. The accompanying tour schedule included several appearances throughout the United States, as well as a handful in Australia. As usual, Iron & Wine showed no problems selling tickets, with fans anxious to experience both new singles and classic tracks. Ghost on Ghost came as a welcome followup to Kiss Each Other Clean, which similarly represented a departure from Beam's typical acoustic style.

Beam's musical endeavors as Iron & Wine began in 2002, when he released his first album, The Creek Drank The Cradle. This entire collection was recorded in Beam's home studio and mainly featured vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitar and the banjo. Iron & Wine later followed up with Our Endless Numbered Days, which was recorded in a professional studio. Later albums included 2007's The Shepherd's Dog and the 2011 release Kiss Each Other Clean, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 charts. Following the release of these later albums, Beam took part in multiple concert series, showing off a live voice that was just as gentle as what fans had heard on their favorite Iron & Wine albums. Although a handful of different instruments are incorporated into the Ghost on Ghost promotional tour in hopes of better reflecting Beam's journey into jazz and pop, the same poignant feel of this brilliant musician's tracks is always maintained for the sake of dedicated listeners.

  • AMAZING

by Nids on 8/6/24Orpheum Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Show was amazing. I only wish that when I had gone up and asked security if I could get the set list, that he would have just let me. I wasn’t going to storm the stage or touch equipment, people were leaving and all I wanted was the taped paper on the floor of the stage. He said no and I don’t think it would have been that big of a deal to be honest. Otherwise seating was great, show was great, I’m a huge fan of the artist Iron and Wine that played. Drinks are WAY too expensive though, never buying drinks again at the Orpheum.

  • Don’t bother

by Rdg on 8/4/24White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - HoustonRating: 2 out of 5

Very mediocre. His recent stuff is nowhere near as good as his first five or six albums. Plus he seems to always sing in a hushed whisper that you cannot hear.

  • Worst concert ever. Complete waste of money

by Jc on 8/4/24White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - HoustonRating: 1 out of 5

Opening Act was terrible. Iron and wine came on late…and he was awful too: waste of money

  • Good show but give us some oldies

by Vivo on 8/4/24White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - HoustonRating: 3 out of 5

Only played one song from the older albums which most people listened to more and want to see live. I don’t think anyone in the crowd sang along with any song except the one older song. Just a silent crowd since he only played new songs which respectfully, no one has listened to.

  • One of the most beautiful concerts

by MM on 8/3/24Orpheum Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

One of the most beautiful concerts I have ever been to. Felt transported into a fairy folk forest full of whimsical sounds. Very respectful audience and fan base. Sam is THE MAN! I cannot wait until Iron and Wine is close in concert again, 100% would go again and again.

  • AMAZING 🤩

by Anne K on 7/11/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic performance by Sam & co.! Honestly one of the best concerts I’ve been to - and that’s saying a lot!! Orchestra was fantastic and the shadow puppeteers were amazing! Venue was also really nice. Just an overall fantastic show.

  • Great experience

by Ellen H on 7/10/24The Pageant - Saint LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Seeing Iron and Wine has been on my to do list for a while and I was not disappointed. Sam Beam is incredibly talented, and so were the band members and projectionists touring with him. Would recommend!

  • Fantastic Show with an amazing opener as a plus!

by Sherry B. on 7/9/24The Pageant - Saint LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Firstly, the opener, Amethyst was downright outstanding! I bought her CD immediately after her set. Looking forward to the next one! Iron & Wine put on a fabulous live show, with the best musicians and the Manual Cinema group, now THAT was some beautiful artistry to go with the music. All in all, a perfect show!

  • Making magic music!

by Emma - Lee on 7/9/24The Pageant - Saint LouisRating: 5 out of 5

The show was so wonderful. I earned wine has been making beautiful music for ages now and still whatever I hear it. There’s a perfect wonderful timeless quality. The live cinema was the icing on the cake. The songs were illustrated and animated in the most beautiful ways. It was the perfect artistic pairing. Super inspired to see iron and wine again!

  • A Voice as Strong as Iron, Smoother than Wine💕

by KCSam on 7/9/24The Pageant - Saint LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show ! Iron and Wine opened with Amythest Kiah who played guitar amazingly but when she sang holy wow what pipes! Iron and Wine was top notch, with his mellow soul penetrating voice and magical lyrics accompanying his great guitar playing was heavenly. Add the mix of old and new songs, perfect! Parent Venue was a comfortable setting for such an intimate experience. What a show, amazing musicians, got back to Iowa City from St.Louis around 3:30am…exhausted but it was so worth it.

  • Great show!

by Andrea on 7/9/24The Pageant - Saint LouisRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the show. The addition of shadow puppet art performances enhanced the beautiful music even more.

  • Loved this Show

by Holly on 7/4/24The Magnolia - El CajonRating: 5 out of 5

We had a great experience seeing Iron and Wine for the first time. The music is layered and intricate and Sam's voice is splendid. The artistic screen show in the background was unique and a performance in itself. The audience loves Sam and the funny banter he engaged in between songs gave an intimate feel like we were in his living room. We loved everything about this show.

  • Come on.

    by G100 on 7/3/24The Magnolia - El CajonRating: 2 out of 5

Great venue, great seats, sounded good but didn't play any of hits. I realize artists probably get sick of playing the same hits over and over but that's what we want hear.

  • BEST SHOW EVER

by BF on 7/2/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen well over 1,000 shows since my first concert in 1986 (and believe me I have seen a ton of legends), but in over 38 years, this man - Sam Beam, blew me away like no other musical act has ever done. His performance of "FLIGHTLESS BIRD, AMERICAN MOUTH"will go down as single-handedly the greatest live musical performance I have ever witnessed in my life. I dunno what he was doing up there but the world disappeared and all that existed was his voice. Magnificent...go see this man perform, his talent is to be admired, respected and experienced.

  • Perfect intimate event!

    by Kristen-Folks on 7/2/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the intimate venue. No waits for bathrooms, merch, or drinks. Sound was awesome.

  • AMAZING

by Soup on 7/2/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Best concert I’ve been to!!! Amazing talent, Sam is so good. All musicians were top tier and so was the sound mixing and lighting. The venue had a great ambiance. Highly recommend.

  • It was fine.

by RD on 7/1/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 3 out of 5

It was fine. Not much variation in tempo, but that's the nature of the music. At one point the audience was discouraged from clapping along. They were off tempo and it changed the vibe, so I get it. But all in all, not a very engaging show.

  • A great performance at an intimate venue

by Kay on 7/1/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Iron and Wine killed it! The opener, Amythyst Kiah, was also fantastic. There was a creative puppet and shadow show by Manual Cinema that added a nice touch to the entire performance. All in all it was an excellent night.

  • Perfect

by Charlie on 7/1/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Great voice, acoustics, intimate venue that captured a great experience. Wish I could rinse and repeat it all over again.

  • Musically great - visually not so much

by Oldfolkie on 6/30/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

The Iron and Wine concert was long anticipated. Oakland Fox Theater was beautifully restored and there was a cool bar available to enjoy some refreshments before the show. Sam Beam (Iron and Wine) is a fine singer/songwriter and guitarist and he showcased his talents very well during a lengthy set. His assembled band provided a perfect complement to his sophisticated indie/folk music. The only downside to the concert was the accompanying graphics. Meant to be an enhancement to the show, they served more as a distraction, in that they were amateurish and not visually inspiring. Overall a great concert experience in Oakland!
