About

Best known by the moniker Iron & Wine, Samuel Beam's stunning acoustic guitar and quiet voice once again made waves with the release of Ghost on Ghost, his fifth studio album. This largely experimental record delves into the supposedly disparate worlds of pop, R&B and jazz, meanwhile proving the singer's impressive versatility. The accompanying tour schedule included several appearances throughout the United States, as well as a handful in Australia. As usual, Iron & Wine showed no problems selling tickets, with fans anxious to experience both new singles and classic tracks. Ghost on Ghost came as a welcome followup to Kiss Each Other Clean, which similarly represented a departure from Beam's typical acoustic style.

Beam's musical endeavors as Iron & Wine began in 2002, when he released his first album, The Creek Drank The Cradle. This entire collection was recorded in Beam's home studio and mainly featured vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitar and the banjo. Iron & Wine later followed up with Our Endless Numbered Days, which was recorded in a professional studio. Later albums included 2007's The Shepherd's Dog and the 2011 release Kiss Each Other Clean, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 charts. Following the release of these later albums, Beam took part in multiple concert series, showing off a live voice that was just as gentle as what fans had heard on their favorite Iron & Wine albums. Although a handful of different instruments are incorporated into the Ghost on Ghost promotional tour in hopes of better reflecting Beam's journey into jazz and pop, the same poignant feel of this brilliant musician's tracks is always maintained for the sake of dedicated listeners.

Annoying Crowd Results in Pathetic Encore

by ginnielouann on 11/14/15U of I Main Lounge - Iowa City

Admittedly, the performer tried his best. He attempted to engage the audience in an interactive manner by opening the playlist to suggestion. That would work with a more mature audience. What ensured here was repeated (to the point of annoying) pleas by audience members for a particularly well-known number that the performer promised to include NEAR THE END OF THE SET. However, the crowd continued to badger for that piece (along with other inane requests such as Free Bird). Charming. The level of whit at Iowa City is off the charts. As the show progressed, it was clear the performer was becoming less enchanted by the heckling as well. Finally, with no fanfare, he broke into the mercilessly-requested piece (doing a damned fantastic rendition) then promptly exited. After lengthy crowd urging, he reappeared to "give us one more." And that really was it. Bottom line: I would love to see Iron & Wine again at another venue, Ticketmaster.

    Iron and Wine is unbelievable

by AshfaceMcGee on 4/28/15Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Not going to lie, I only went to see Iron and Wine. I had never heard of the openers. The first two were okay. Strand of Oaks was really good and I'll be listening to more of them. Iron and Wine was amazing! I loved hearing the newer music and some of my old favorites. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to hear "Such Great Heights", but not really surprised it wasn't played. The show was intimate, Sam is super charming and has a great sense of humor. I will definitely be going to another show!

    Iron & Wine was chill!

by Buffy95 on 9/22/14The Pageant - St Louis

The concert was really chill. Sam got on stage and was really real! His music was fantastic; even when he messed up his own lyrics he was still good!! And the opener Jessica Hoop was really good too!

    Sam Beam is AMAZING!!

by sewbizar on 9/21/14The Pageant - St Louis

The Pageant continues to be a worthy venue...IF you can tolerate the bar noises. Is it St. Louis? Or are shows just like this nowadays? During Jesca Hoop's portion, the noise from the bar area was very annoying! THANK GOD! Everyone was quiet during Sam Beam's portion...it was the quietest I have ever experienced at the Pageant! Jesca & Sam (both very professional)...were SPOT ON & AMAZING!!! EXCELLENT SHOW! St. Louis fans need to be a little more respectful of the artists on stage!!

    Sam Beam nailed it!

by Anonymous on 9/20/14The Pageant - St Louis

Iron & Wine played a lot of great tunes, some classics and some I had never heard. The Pageant was a nice venue with good drinks and plenty of room.

    Could have been better!

by A1990 on 9/20/14The Pageant - St Louis

My boyfriend and I have been fans of Iron and Wine for quite sometime and we're greatly disappointed that it was an acoustic show. After watching an acoustic opening act, we were ready for a full band to come on and liven up the night. Don't get me wrong, he was great acoustically but would have been more fun if it was a full band. I almost fell asleep standing up.

sam was great and venue was relaxing

by papaspain on 8/15/14Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

My wife and I had a great time, drove down to San Diego from Orange County and had a nice dinner at Humphreys and then walked over to enjoy the show. I like Sam's attitude and ease with the audience. Played a ton of songs and interacted with the audience and made it a very intimate setting. I would recommend this venue and of course Iron and Wine is always a great show.

    Boring

by MingusTCat on 8/14/14Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

This was a disorganized, lackluster performance. No band - just Sam Beam playing acoustic guitar and singing. No notice from the venue stating that he was performing solo. No set list, so constant chatter and yelling from audience to stage. No consistency - it's hard for a musician to carry a room on their own, and he didn't.

One man show was not what I expected.

by Anonymous on 8/14/14Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Iron and Wine would have been a lot more memorable if there had been a full band. Instead we watched one guy play the guitar for a while. No background instrumentation or harmonies. This is not what I've seen when he plays live on TV. For the price of these tickets, there should have been a full band, at least for some of the songs. He also forgot words and seemed high. One song encore...

This show was absolutely fantastic. There could not have been a much better venue. Our seats were five rows from the front. The lead man and the keyboard player were amazing.

Watching and listening to Sam Beam live can only be described as brilliant and beautiful. I felt as if the whole room was glowing and glittering gold as his voice floated and swayed up and around the Casino Ballroom. He seemed so sweet, even from far away, which I think had a lot to do with the way that he spoke, so quiet and kind. The set list was a perfect mix of songs from all albums and there was a segment in the middle where the band left and Sam sang five songs alone. If you're debating on buying tickets to see this band, I assure you, it will be worth it. These live songs sound as if they're coming straight from your record player.

    Sam Beam is Music Jesus

by Gasm on 7/1/14Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

Sam Beam of Iron and Wine was so wonderful and engaging! I expected a more solemn man but he was funny! I expected his concert to be sweet and calming like most of his music, instead he revamped the songs to be far more energetic and give the feeling of a real concert event rather than sitting and listening to a man play/sing music. Shattered many expectations I came in with and I left with a newfound love for this artist.

by Amelee on 6/29/14Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

Iron and Wine put on such a great intimate show! The band played all together then Sam gave them a break and did some soft solo bits with his guitar, then the band returned. He played for 2 hours straight.
