Here's a reason to be happy ever after...
Direct from Broadway, the critically acclaimed and much beloved production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony®-winning triumph is coming to Chicago with its Broadway stars to boot. INTO THE WOODS features Montego Glover as The Witch, Stephanie J. Block as The Baker's Wife, Sebastian Arcelus as The Baker, and Gavin Creel as Cinderella's Prince/Wolf - all reprising their Broadway roles - in a production called "radiant" (Variety), "enchanting" (The Wall Street Journal), and "a priceless revival with a perfect cast" (The Washington Post). Directed by Lear deBessonet (Hercules), this theatrical event honors Sondheim's legendary memory and his Broadway masterpiece like never before.
"Should you go? Of course you should!" (The New York Times).
Great theatre. Small seats. Tight seats. Nice people. Great acting.
Wish I saw INTO THE WOODS earlier in the run... would have gone back to see it again ... That is how much I LOVED it!
Truly one of the best shows I’ve experienced in Chicago. Cast and music are amazing — the various personalities of the cast kept me laughing!
I've been attending Broadway in Chicago since its first year. Productions are usually great with talented performers and tremendous work put into them, but one thing has historically suffered--the sound quality. In the past, the downtown theater sound systems have been poorly managed, loud to the point of distortion and leaves the audience unclear of what was being sung. This was the first time the sound was PERFECTLY BALANCED! I was so pleased to be able to hear and understand the talent on stage. The performance was creative, the performers were perfection (definitely as well cast as any on Broadway NYC) and it was an overall excellent experience. To whomever has been trying to improve the sound at B'way in Chicago--thank you so much!!!
There was a very talented Broadway composer named Stephen Sondheim. He composed a tremendously clever and entertaining score for a show which will absolutely charm and amaze you with its joyful music, superb singing and acting, and great humor. Every cast member gave an enchanting performance within a production that technologically was very creative. Kudos to the sound, lighting and costume people.
Loved the performance! I was told by a friend how the show was ok mainly because the sets were very minimal. I thought it was wonderful! The sets don't need to be anything lavish when the talent of the actors and the orchestra is in plain sight!! I had just seen the staging in the suburbs and this one just blew me away! I'm so glad I was able to see it. I wasn't since I had just seen it in Aurora two weeks before but thankfully I was able!
Such a great show! The cast and orchestra were phenomenal!
They took my favorite musical and turned it into a Saturday morning cartoon show. So much overacting and pandering for an easy laugh sucked the soul out of this wonderful musical. I left after the first act, because I didn't trust them to handle the heart-wrenching ending of the play.
Entrance to theatre was a breeze, if you get there about 10-15 after the doors open, purse check and ticket scan was fast. The show was extremely entertaining, the cast was awesome and very comical, making the entire show something to remember
The cast truly was sensational! Great acting, funny moments, and incredible singers! My only critique is the set was not up to what I’ve seen in the past for Into the Woods.
Sitting in my seat, not very far from the last row, I think six rows from the very back, a little too crowded, I still enjoyed the show. Yes, though professionally done the intent seemed more on making it funny, than making a person think. Everyone laughed a lot, including myself. Quite honestly, I would’ve liked even a little more depth. It was pretty surface-y and seemed a little too scripted. Of course I know it is scripted, but you want to escape that awareness. Honestly, I did get emotional once, but for me that’s not very many times since I’m a very emotional person. No mess ups anywhere in the orchestra or singers or acting that I noticed. And everyone worked very hard so I give it four out of five stars. To paraphrase little red riding hood’s great line, funny is different than good.
It was the best show ever. The person who played Jack was an amazing. His voice is amazing. He will fine on and do wonderful things.
Took my ten year old daughter and was in awe over this cast. Wonderful show!
Loved the story of INTO the WOODs but the production and theatrical experience was underwhelming.
Good seats. The acting was spot on! The little changes to the show were perefect additions. Very very well done!
The cast is amazing!! I have always thought this musical is too long. It could end after ACT 1 is done. ( and I am a musical enthusiastic) I was a bit disappointed with the stage set-up. I know as this is a show that goes around America, traveling light and adapting to every theater must be tough. I was expecting more in that regard. Congrats on the 6 Tony awards nominations!!!
Wonderful music, magical lyric and amazing performances. A great story beautifully presented.
WOW this show is great! I can't believe how lucky I was to see it.
The show was ABSOLUTELY fun and wonderful! The staging, the orchestra, and of course the cast! This has always been one of my favorite shows and this production was 100% spot on, fun, charming... everything you ever wanted in a musical about fairy tales! If I could see it 100 more times, I would! Thank you for such a lovely experience!!
I very much enjoyed the performances. The pared back set design put more focus on the actors which was great. I sat behind 3 women with 5 young children. The children couldn't be less interested in the show and the adults did nothing to have the children sit still and watch the show. They were super disruptive and the people next to me didn't even come back to their seats after intermission. Sondheim in general and this musical isn't easy to follow unless you listen very closely. I wish the parents had done some research to see if this was going to hold the interest of the children. I would leave the kids at home for this one.
