About

Now starring AMERICAN IDOL winner Jordin Sparks!

Winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical.

Welcome to the kind of musical that comes around once in a generation. A musical that builds on the best traditions of theater while forging into fresh new territory. A musical about the importance of home, family and finding where you belong.

IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in Manhattan's Washington Heights - a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

Discover where you belong, at Broadway's new Tony Award-winning classic, IN THE HEIGHTS.

Amazing show - ruined by terrible sound !

by Great performance - terrible sound ! on 9/25/23Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

This show has a load of meaning to many many people of color. The cast was outstanding and the orchestra was even better - unfortunately, their performances and our experience was completely derailed by the incompetent sound in the theater. If this theater wants to compete with theater in the tri state area - they need to upgrade their sound and sound tech.

Took my 14-year-old granddaughter and we both loved it. Great music and dancing, lovely voices and a fun energetic performance.

    Can You Keep Up?

by Onepianoman on 2/18/20California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

This story is the story of America and shows the strength of diversity and how each new addition to the soup makes the dish more flavorful and fun. The rapid-fire lyrics make it hard for me to get all the details but that is likely my tired ears and slow brain after 72 years. Terrific cast and production.

    Terrific energy and talent!

by Lenka on 2/18/20California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Loved this production of In the Heights! It’s of exuberance and energy from this young cast! Loved everything about the production along with choreography and costume. My ONLY suggestion would to have had the mics turned up OR the orchestra/music turned down. At times it was very difficult to hear the lyrics which are challenging enough as it is....I lost several of the lyrics. The seating in this old theater is WAY to close for comfort. Not sure what can be done about that..

    Excellent Cast!!!!

by C. S. on 2/18/20California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

This was a top notch performance. The cast was excellent and the musicals were superb! Only complaint was the sound system messed up a couple of times (probably due to older equipment). Not the fault of the cast, who pushed through in spite of some minor technical difficulties. Nonetheless, I will definitely be purchasing more tickets at this venue.

Great venue, great show, some REALLY talented cast

by BigWigNJ on 6/27/18Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Just saw Phoenix Productions’ “In The Heights” at the Count Basie in Red Bank. A wonderful theater. in The Heights is an exuberant uplifting musical about three days in the life of the immigrant neighborhood of Washington Heights, and the music and dancing were just terrific! The cast was great, in particular Regene Odon as Benny, and Milena Makse as Nina, who was every bit of Mandy Gonzalez, who originated the part on Broadway. We’ll all be hearing from her again!

    Absolutely Amazing

by NJF4219 on 4/16/14Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

This show was absolutely incredible. Being from NY and having seen the show I admit I went in expecting something subpar, but I'm almost ashamed to admit that now after having seen this cast perform the show live. I found myself laughing, crying, and just outright enjoying every minute! Lano Medina was Usnavi was an absolutely perfect fit, he was riveting and natural and had awesome chemistry with everyone on stage. Cannot say enough about this show!

    Amazing cast!

by Anonymous on 4/9/14Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

We saw in the heights after knowing all of the songs. Some of the characters were actually better than the original, studio, recordings. The orchestra was awsome as well. Run, see, then see again.

    Well worth going

by Jkwolfe on 3/31/14Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I absolutely adored In the Heights! I loved the story, the musical numbers and the dancing. Only complaint: music sometimes drowned out lyrics and dialogue. Otherwise I would have given this 5 stars.

Fun play! A change in the musical genre you would normally listen to, down-to-earth and modern twist as it applies to a section of New York ethnic living and the stories of what family means, the ups and downs and the triumphs.

    The Heights was GREAT!

by CJhernandez on 7/24/13UTEP Dinner Theatre - El Paso

One of the best shows I have been to at the UTEP Theater. The cast was excellent. I am always amazed at the quality and talent that these productions provide us. This was even better than the usual. The lead characters were excellent, choreography was terrific, the talent was spread throughout the entire cast. Love the shows UTEP presents. Only negative is the construction around the theater and no heads up on where to park and how to get in. Thought I might miss the show it took so long to figure it out.

My wife and I really enjoyed the show. She actually missed seeing this musical in New York a few years ago, because the event was sold out. Not quite Broadway, never the less, very good. Great job UTEP.
