About

IF/THEN is a contemporary new musical that follows two distinct storylines in the life of Elizabeth, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life in this city of infinite possibilities. When her carefully designed plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth’s life splits into two parallel paths. IF/THEN follows both stories simultaneously as this modern woman faces the intersection of choice and chance.

IF/THEN is recommended for ages 12 and up for strong language and adult themes. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain time. The performance begins promptly at the time noted on your ticket.  Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of management.

Story is Poor Even Though Idina is Great

by tallfox1 on 4/7/14Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The movie Sideways does this story 100 times better. Idina Menzel sings terrifically but the songs are immediately forgettable. If she hadn't been in it, it would have closed already (read the reviews).

Did not bring me to my feet at the end

by Liseee on 4/7/14Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I thought the show was good, but not great. It did not bring me to my feet at the end, which to me is the true test of a great show...I WANT to stand up and applaud. The talent was good, and the music nice, which is why overall I thought it was good, but while I liked to story line, I thought they missed out on an opportunity for greatness. The first act was really good...funny, lively...left me happy at intermission. But it was like the 2nd act was written by someone else. It was morbid and slow, there wasn't even a trace of the humor that made the first act so good. I liked how the storyline came full circle in the end, but think they could have done that while still keeping some of the liveliness in the show. I love Idina Mendzel and Anthony Rapp, and thought the other talent was strong, but none of the songs stood out to me either. All in all, a nice night out, but nothing I'd tell people to run and see.

I wanted this show to be as wonderful as NEXT TO NORMAL but the music was not memorable and the if/then story was difficult to follow. I found it difficult to like many of the characters. The talent on the other hand was wonderful. Just not a great vehicle.

Story line was interesting. Idina Menzel has an unbelievable voice as does the rest of the cast. Many laugh-out-loud moments. A few songs were lovely but overall OK.

music loud and no tunes. Directing was flat, and actors lacked emotion. They just stood there and bellowed out their "songs". The show is riding on the past successes of the actors and writers and composer.

    Unexpected

by Anonymous on 4/6/14Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I knew going into it Idina Menzel was going to be fabulous, but she was at another level. She has emerged herself in this character and relates to the point that I saw moments she looked like she was drawing parallels to her own life. Loved the story and it's depth. Walked away singing the songs. AMAZING!

I loved this show! The storyline was fast paced and very interesting. Not predictable or the typical musical format. Idina Menzel was flawless and the supporting cast was good, especially James Snyder. The music was amazing and I cannot wait to buy the cast recording.

Go to hear Idina Menzel, however you won't be humming anything memorable upon the show's end

One of the best musicals I have seen in a long time. Idena Menzel was amazing as Liz/Beth. The rest of the cast were almost as good as she was. The story line really made you think about the choices one makes. It was funny and emotional and thought provoking. I give this show 5 stars.

    Talented cast

by AReviewer66 on 4/5/14Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The singing and acting of the entire cast was amazing. Somewhat complex story line may not be for all. Minimal, but creative, staging. Could use more varied styling for the music. Overall, and very enjoyable and emotional experience. Not perfect, but we have no problem recommending. You do get your money's worth, and you can tell everyone that you saw "Adele Nazeem" perform live.

    Wow...finally a GREAT new show

by vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv on 4/5/14Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

We saw If/Then on Apr 2.. I was a little uncertain about what to expect, as the reviews were not great! Once again, I learned the age old lesson "NEVER listen to reviewers!! We ignored them & went anyway because we LOVE Idina Menzel, but... NO ONE mentioned how FUNNY the show is! It is mature humor for sure, but in several places the audience was roaring with laughter! MY biggest complaint about the new shows we've seen (that the critics loved) was that there were NO good songs! Well, If/Then has several VERY good songs, making me happy! Idina Menzel (who is on stage the majority of the time) was magnificent! James Snyder, Anthony Rapp & LaChanze were also fantastic! Go see If/Then!

Really thought provoking and well designed modern musical. No, it is not too confusing! Indian and cast are superb. Great to see such diversity on stage.

I didn't care for the show at all. I was quite bored the entire time. The book needs a lot of work and the songs are not memorable.
