About

An “out-of-body experience for ‘Lucy’ fans” according to Showbiz Chicago, I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE takes audiences back to 1952 as members of the Desilu Playhouse studio audience where they await the filming of two hilarious and oh-so-familiar I LOVE LUCY® episodes, “The Benefit” and “Lucy Has Her Eyes Examined.”

A charming host entertains and enlightens the crowd to the behind-the-scenes filming process of a brand new thing called “television,” the Crystaltone Singers perform advertising jingles in perfect 50s style harmony and the sidesplitting antics of America’s favorite foursome – Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel – are presented live on stage and in color for the very first time! It’s a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience TV Guide’s William Keck calls “the most entertaining stage production I’ve seen in years – including Broadway!”

The play was like you were present for the filming of the actual program. The commercials were inserted as I remembered them.

    FANTASTIC !!!......not to be missed.

by JoeCuba on 9/18/12Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The show is amazingly well put together and TRUE to the original TV Series. It was incredibly entertaining and HILARIOUS.....audience was in stitches. I wont give away some of the details surrounding the show itself, since the premise involves audience participation......of sorts. Cast was marvelous and every character is perfectly cast.....i was in Row 2, Front Right Section, Isle Seat (seat 1 and 2)..... and seats were amazing.....great view of the gorgeous legs on some of the cast members. Waste of money

by Guccidoll on 9/18/12Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This show was planned as a surprise for my husband's BDAY. I was excited to see what new things Broadway came up with. The show was ok, but made of amateurs who were practicing in a dress rehearsal. The story line was distracting. The worst part was the crowd encouragement to yell out loud when ever they felt like it. In a small theater, it was extremely crowded. The order woman was overwhelmed by dozens a people who could not follow directions. Even 10 mins after the "show" started they were still figuring out where their seats were. It was upsetting being constantly disturbed after we made an effort to arrive 30 mins early. Most people were drinking alcohol which I think I unacceptable and quite tacky in a "Broadway show". There was no order. People were crowded, smelled bad, yelled out whenever they felt like it, were screaming on top of the singers. It was just pathetic. The woman behind us was mentally challenged and she was yelling out during most of the show and did not have control over her bowels. It's beyond me why people would bring someone like her to a public performance. About 30 mins into the show I had a huge migraine from the disaster of it all. We were considering leaving, but since it was a BDAY gift, we stayed until the end. The biggest relief was when it was all over. For the full price you pay for a Broadway show, I consider this the biggest waste of money. I did not laugh once during this entire "comedy". It would be nice to have professional actors, in a well planned show and a crowd that is civil and polite. I would not recommend this, especially if you are making a nice gift out of it. Next time I go to Broadway, it will be in NY with a proper play and setting.

I took my mom here as her birthday present because she is obsessed with I Love Lucy. She was so excited and we ended up having a great time! The actors and actresses were right on with playing the characters. Very funny and so accurately portrayed.

    Well done and forgettable

by RickL50 on 9/18/12Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The performances by the cast were professional and top notch in this interesting production recreating the studio audience experience at the taping of 2 I Love Lucy episodes. The play as a whole, and unfortunately the performances remain forgettable, because of the missed opportunity to explore the well know personal issues and animosities that existed for and between all the principles. Effectively the play suggests the off camera relationship dynamic of the 4 main characters, Lucy, Ricky, Ethel and Fred was a convivial as the on camera relationship dynamic the play becomes a bath in warm jello, instead of the exciting portrayal of talent overcoming conflict. Unfortunately, as staged, this play will only ever have any relevance to those of us old enough to have watched Lucille Ball, et al, through our youth. See it if you have nothing more excited to do.

Truly a professional production. Great performances by all the actors. Enjoyed the old commercial breaks with excellent musical entertainment. They brought the 50's back in living color!

The play was great! I am a true "I Love Lucy" fan and I thought they did a great job. The Lucy character was perfect and what a great guy to play Fred Mertz. Perfect theatre as well, no bad seats.

I Love Lucy-that says it all

by MichiganBarney on 9/18/12Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

If you are a fan of the show, you will not be disappointed. Actors vividly portray the original cast in every detail. Lucy's red hair, Ricky's accent, Fred's gruffness, and Ethel's energy.

by Marykel on 9/17/12Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Enjoyed the show, except would of liked to see a different episode instead of the first one that was performed, which was " The Benefit". ( Lucy gets her Eyes Examined was awesome!!! )So many other great Lucy episodes, such as Vitameatavegamin, The Chocolate Factory, etc. Loved the show, though!!!

    Great Cast!!

by Anonymous on 9/17/12Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I would recommend if you are a I Love Lucy fan. Otherwise it was a little slow and needed some spark. Cast did sound just like original cast so they were awsome. Worth seeing but no home run.

Okay, But Could Have Been Better

by Ducky3333 on 9/17/12Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Great idea, but "Lucy", who looked amazingly like Lucy, had a voice that just didn't sound right and was very distracting. Also, her mannerisms were lacking. The other three main characters, while they didn't look as much like their original characters, were much better. The idea is that you're the audience at a taping of two I Love Lucy episodes, but there was very little "out takes". It just lacked something riveting.
