About

Hugh Laurie is nothing if not multitalented. Known for his acting work on the shows Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, and House, Hugh Laurie is also a skilled writer, director, comedian,  and musician. Laurie began studying piano at the age of six and later took up a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and harmonica. He has shown off his musical abilities during his acting career, particularly on shows such as A Bit of Fry & Laurie and House, as well as during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2005.
He plays keyboard and sings vocals for Band From TV, a charity-driven rock group based in Los Angeles. He also collaborated with Meat Loaf after the artist appeared with him in an episode of House. After this appearance, Laurie played the piano as a guest artist on Meat Loaf's Hang Cool Teddy Bear album of 2010. He also performed and co-wrote the blues comedy song “Sperm Test in the Morning” for Maybe Baby. While starring in House, Laurie has also weaved in several musical storylines and played a range of classic instruments, including Les Paul and Gibson Flying V guitars. His character also owns a Hammond B-3 organ and plays the introduction to Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum in one episode. Laurie also plays a doctor in Kate Bush's video for the song “Experiment IV.”
Laurie has also recorded his own musical collection and made an album for Warner Bros Records in 2011 called Let Them Talk, which was released in Germany and France, featuring a range of collaborations with artists that included Dr. John, Tom Jones and Irma Thomas. That same year, Laurie closed the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with a jazz quintet to great applause and good reviews. He also talked about his love for jazz and the music of New Orleans in the ITV documentary, Perspectives. He released a second studio album, Didn't It Rain, in 2013. He has released three singles to date: You Don't Know My Mind in 2011, and Winin' Boy Blues and Wild Honey in 2013.

    Lovin' the Blues!!

by Psyche27 on 6/13/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

If you like old time blues and you love hearing great musicians at the top of their game, this was the concert for you. And if you happen to be a fan of the tv show House as well, then this was nearly a perfect night. Hugh Laurie and the Copperbottom Band were amazing. Hugh on piano and guitar, as well as lead vocals fronted for a bunch of incredible musicians. The standouts in a fabulous group were Kevin Breit on guitar and Vincent Henry on horns, and David Pilich's bass was wonderful as well. Jean McClain (who has just released an album under the name Sista Jean) provided lovely, rich backing vocals, and also had a chance to solo on the classic "John Henry". If Hugh Laurie's intention for his album "Let Them Talk" was to introduce a new audience to the kind of music he loves, he certainly helped his cause with the information he provided about every song - the composer or the song's history or some other anecdote. The music was great, the patter was entertaining and the audience was enthusiastic. All in all, a memorable performance.

Hugh Laurie is "House's" alter ego! What a GREAT show, piano man himself was wonderful, his band and backup singer excellent. What a fun time, Hugh was so engaged with the audience, he was having a good time and so were we!

    Absolutely FABULOUS!

by Jespoberg on 6/13/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

At the conclusion of a jazz-type ensemble's last minute sound check of instruments, Hugh greeted the crowd and immediately had people laughing. On top of his witty charm, he was smooth on vocals, grooving on the piano, and backed by fabulous musician's and female vocals. The stage setting was intimate, and though the theatre was crowded with standing room only, we were immediately inclined to tap our feet and dance right where we stood - it was a truly delightful evening!

Excellent show. Hugh Laurie is a very good entertainer. His voice fits the old blues style and he plays piano very well. The band was very good and they all seemed to mesh. Well worth the price of admission!
