About

Hugh Laurie is nothing if not multitalented. Known for his acting work on the shows Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, and House, Hugh Laurie is also a skilled writer, director, comedian,  and musician. Laurie began studying piano at the age of six and later took up a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and harmonica. He has shown off his musical abilities during his acting career, particularly on shows such as A Bit of Fry & Laurie and House, as well as during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2005.
He plays keyboard and sings vocals for Band From TV, a charity-driven rock group based in Los Angeles. He also collaborated with Meat Loaf after the artist appeared with him in an episode of House. After this appearance, Laurie played the piano as a guest artist on Meat Loaf's Hang Cool Teddy Bear album of 2010. He also performed and co-wrote the blues comedy song “Sperm Test in the Morning” for Maybe Baby. While starring in House, Laurie has also weaved in several musical storylines and played a range of classic instruments, including Les Paul and Gibson Flying V guitars. His character also owns a Hammond B-3 organ and plays the introduction to Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum in one episode. Laurie also plays a doctor in Kate Bush's video for the song “Experiment IV.”
Laurie has also recorded his own musical collection and made an album for Warner Bros Records in 2011 called Let Them Talk, which was released in Germany and France, featuring a range of collaborations with artists that included Dr. John, Tom Jones and Irma Thomas. That same year, Laurie closed the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with a jazz quintet to great applause and good reviews. He also talked about his love for jazz and the music of New Orleans in the ITV documentary, Perspectives. He released a second studio album, Didn't It Rain, in 2013. He has released three singles to date: You Don't Know My Mind in 2011, and Winin' Boy Blues and Wild Honey in 2013.

    Hugh Laurie, Actor no more!

    by Cupcakes4u on 8/21/12Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Hugh Laurie was born to be a blues musician. Along with the Copper Bottom Band he sang, played piano, guitar and did a little dancing. Everyone in the theater were toe tapping and moving to the music. He brought the New Orleans blues to life and made you want to jump up and start dancing. There were no opening acts, just two hours of great music. After the concert I went home and listened to his CD and relived the music that Hugh and his band were born to play. It was a terrific evening.

    Copper Bottom Was Golden!

by mkwatty on 8/21/12Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Like many audience members, I suspect, my wife and I were drawn to the Hugh Laurie concert because of our prior experiences. She, through House, and I, through his bits as a British comedian in his earlier years. We frankly didn't know what to expect. Then,,,,,WOW ! This was one of those golden moments that produce unforgettable memories, not to speak of an entirely-new appreciation of Mr. Laurie as a gifted pianist. Literally every band member was top-shelf; the guys on woodwinds and drums and guitar even better than that.

    Awesome, awesome, awesome!!

    by wart11 on 8/20/12Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

What a great evening of music! Laurie is a GREAT Jazz/Blues pianist and his vocals spot on - he sounds a bit like Tom Waits. And he is backed by a GREAT band. Not a one was a slouch - especially liked the guitar man - he could play everything. Would have loved to have heard a bit more of the female vocalist as a soloist.... And the stories behind the songs were great - you could tell he loved doing this....

    Amazing event!

by Minnpro on 8/20/12Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom Band put on an amazing show on Saturday night. The crowd was into it, the music was amazing and Hugh Laurie is a surprisingly good musician. He sings, plays the piano like a virtuoso and jammed on the guitar. The band was really good. The drummer was both good and fasciating to watch. At one point he was doing at lease three things at once. All in all a great night out hearing very good music!

Hugh Laurie & Group - Smokin!

by DJJAZZ on 7/2/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Laurie is charming, kind, extremely funny and a surprisingly and amazingly soulful piano player and singer!.His group of musicians are also top notch. I especially loved the drummer/percussionist, cooly swaying, moving in a different way most drummers move, no theatrics, just into it. I wasn't very familiar with New Orleans jazz but Laurie and these masters made me a believer. Great to see the mix of young and older in the audience, all loving it and really feeling the music. Laurie and his group kept everyone's full attention for 2 hours and it was standing room only! I went right out and bought the CD!

    House goes on...

by lak77 on 6/14/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Hugh Laurie. Both an Actor and Musician with a sense of humor who I would watch & see again. Many knew this but I didn't, although he's an American actor, he is actually British and has the accent to match.

    Hugh...ieeee!

by Skipcrou on 6/14/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Hugh was freakin' awesome! The venue sucked! First of all, I bought the ticket with seat designations; then when we arrived at El Rey Theater we waited in a long line for 30 minutes to be let in to an open standing-room auditorium. So then we stood for the complete concert. All in all we stood for 4+ hours. The ambiance of Hugh's concert should have been in a more relaxed environment with comfortable seating. I rated his concert 4 stars almost solely on the performance; deducted one star for the venue. I would see Hugh again but not if it is at El Rey Theater.
