About

Hugh Laurie is nothing if not multitalented. Known for his acting work on the shows Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, and House, Hugh Laurie is also a skilled writer, director, comedian,  and musician. Laurie began studying piano at the age of six and later took up a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and harmonica. He has shown off his musical abilities during his acting career, particularly on shows such as A Bit of Fry & Laurie and House, as well as during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2005.
He plays keyboard and sings vocals for Band From TV, a charity-driven rock group based in Los Angeles. He also collaborated with Meat Loaf after the artist appeared with him in an episode of House. After this appearance, Laurie played the piano as a guest artist on Meat Loaf's Hang Cool Teddy Bear album of 2010. He also performed and co-wrote the blues comedy song “Sperm Test in the Morning” for Maybe Baby. While starring in House, Laurie has also weaved in several musical storylines and played a range of classic instruments, including Les Paul and Gibson Flying V guitars. His character also owns a Hammond B-3 organ and plays the introduction to Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum in one episode. Laurie also plays a doctor in Kate Bush's video for the song “Experiment IV.”
Laurie has also recorded his own musical collection and made an album for Warner Bros Records in 2011 called Let Them Talk, which was released in Germany and France, featuring a range of collaborations with artists that included Dr. John, Tom Jones and Irma Thomas. That same year, Laurie closed the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with a jazz quintet to great applause and good reviews. He also talked about his love for jazz and the music of New Orleans in the ITV documentary, Perspectives. He released a second studio album, Didn't It Rain, in 2013. He has released three singles to date: You Don't Know My Mind in 2011, and Winin' Boy Blues and Wild Honey in 2013.

Great Music and Humor in Equal Measure!

by ChesterMcFly on 6/4/14Montalvo - Saratoga

My wife and I truly enjoyed this show. Hugh Laurie was hilarious, the band and the music were excellent, and Laurie's love for music and music history is infectious. We will definitely catch him again the next time he comes to or near the Bay Area.

Surprised my husband with these tickets. He was a huge fan of House and likes blues/jazz. He wasn't aware of this band, and was happily surprised to learn of it, and absolutely loved the show! Hugh Laurie has a great personality for entertaining, and is a great musician too. His band was phenomenal - each one fabulous in their own right. Would love to see his show again in the future! Montalvo was a great venue too.

    Classic performance!

by Jlindsey1223 on 6/3/14Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Great show. Funny and a good time for everyone. Dont go expecting to see "house play piano". Go to see what southern blues is supposed to sound like by a funny guy and the great band that he plays with.

    Hugh Laurie's band was unbelievable!

by HughLaurieFan on 6/3/14Balboa Theatre - San Diego

We knew Hugh Laurie was an excellent pianist but the band was awesome. Whoever heard of a female trombonist? She was a blast to hear! The vocalists, cello, guitar and reed musicians were outta sight! We especially liked the young vocalist (Gabe?) who has a set of vocals that could raise the roof off the theater. We were shocked to say the least. The concert was a "do not miss" event.

A jolly time was had by all. Good pipes all round.

by GussieFinkNottle on 6/3/14Balboa Theatre - San Diego

What a well rounded ensemble. From Bertie/Gregory/Hugh tinkling the irories to a San Diego nature blowing the trombone (and how!), it was a fun, fun time. The whole Copper Bottom Band delivered a performance deserving of platinum or gold, much more so then copper. I might suggest renaming them to the Platinum Top Band, but that would of course cause confusion since they are almost entirely non-blond.

Hugh Laurie and BAND OUTSTANDING MUSICIANS

by BethanyDad on 6/3/14Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I have been impressed by Hugh Laurie as and actor, and have since come to love him in his musical album debut "Let Them Talk". This tour, which tends to mix some old and a lot of new tunes from the "Didn't it Rain" album was phenomenal. The humor intermixed with absolutely the best individual musicians made for a very entertaining evening. Trombone talent was STRONG! Drums were GREAT! String Base, Guitar and Reeds were Exceptional and the two female back-up vocalists were good enough to be on their own tour. However, there is something about Hugh Laurie that made this group come together as a finely oiled machine with obvious compassion and modisty for one another - a mutual respect that flourished all night long through the 2.5 hour long show!!!!!! I'd go again in a heartbeat!!!

Hugh Laurie with The Copper Bottom Band

by Lugster on 6/3/14Balboa Theatre - San Diego

What an excellent musical experience! I loved all aspects of the show. The stage set-up immediately felt warm and inviting. The musicianship was outstanding, the sound system clear and well-mixed, the lighting quite professional and appropriate. Mr. Laurie created a positive atmosphere that brought the audience into the whole experience. I really loved how he brought all the musicians together in a collaborative effort. We, the audience, were the winner in this ensemble approach. And, the song choices were outstanding. Each musician was a master of their instrument(s). It felt good to be invited to participate in the tunes on occasion. The positive energy of each member was electrifying. I felt their love. I was energized.
