  • Southbridge is a must see!

by Chamala on 2/18/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I was riveted by the incredible cast of Southbridge. There were very few ebb and flows with the show and I was entranced by the lead character Stranger. Never expected the twist and I was very pleased to have viewed a well directed stage play. The Chicago Dramatists theater was an unexpected but beautiful house. Without a doubt I've been telling all of my friends about Southbridge. Thank you.

The singing was not very good, and while some of the sketches were amusing, unfortunately not enough to make it worthwhile

  • Amateurish production

    by DD12345 on 2/16/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Quality was not as good as a well-done high-school production. I took my husband here for his birthday and he hated it. Two voices were good, three were mediocre. The five cast members didn't fit together -- for a musical review composed mainly of romantic songs, they were physically incompatible. One (very pretty) woman towered over all four of her co-performers. One woman was heavily muscled -- not romantic at all.

  • Amazing.

Other Desert Cities is a truly moving story about what limits a parent goes to for their child. The story revolves around when a married retired actors couple have their two grown up kids come to visit, as the trip continues a deep family secret unfolds. The acting is phenomenal as well as a very cool set. I highly recommend that you see this play.

  • A different twist

I was very impressed and surprised with the level of talent these performers have, they truly lived up to their reputation!

  • Good effort

by missmuckle on 2/12/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

My mother always told me "if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing", so I hope my feedback will be useful. The young man who played the lead has a bright future ahead and the supporting cast was just that... "supporting". The shortfall for me was the actual play. Supposedly it is set in the period shortly after Obama's 2008 victory but I failed to see the connection to a young man who expects good things to happen without any effort being initiated...looking for a handout and using deceptive practices does not have anything in common with the US electing it's first mixed race president. I was not familiar with this theater group and even though my first experience was not one of my favorites I will continue to consider their next productions...hoping they have better material to work with in the future.

Original, edgy, and most of all, HILARIOUS! I had never been to ph and wasn't expecting much when I walked in because the theater was so small. However, I think that is why I ended up enjoying it so much - it was very intimate. Definitely go see it...and leave the kiddies at home.

  • Unique Play

    by Hoosiermom7 on 2/11/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

We weren't sure what to expect when we booked this show. The 3 people in our group were shocked at the number of people in the cast. With no intermission, the play went fast and kept our interest for the entire 90 minutes, in fact we couldn't believe it was over when the cast came on stage at the end. There was language that could offend some people. Lots of short "stories" acted out in the back of a taxi makes one appreciate all of the things that taxi drivers may have to deal with on a daily basis. The theater is very small so there are no bad seats in the house.

  • WOW - Alexis J. Rogers is FANTASTIC

Billie Holiday - fantastic performance - GO - need more be said!! (Oh yea, & the trio in back is wonderful!)

  • Duets for my Valentine

I thought the dancing numbers were absolutely wonderful. I thought the MC trio was a stark contradiction and in poor taste.

  • Great

Had a blast! Hosts were funny and the dancers were amazing.

  • Birthday party - could not follow the story line

    by GLY1 on 2/11/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

great actors. story line difficult to follow. did not understand the context of the play when the lights went out. I needed to be more conversant on the life and times of Harold Pinter to better appreciate the play.

  • A confusing story

by spielberg on 2/11/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

The play contained interesting characters, but it took a long time to figure out who was who and how they were connected. There didn't seem to be a reason for so many different locales in Australia...a place about which we know so little that concentrating on the place took away from concentrating on the actors. At least it all came clear in the end! IF you had someone with you who was awake throughout!+

  • Pretty Good

    by Anonymous210 on 2/10/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I thought that the show itself was enjoyable. It ran for 90 minutes. There were parts were I laughed and parts where I resonated with the dialogue. It was difficult to follow because there were only two actors in the whole show and asides. Overall, I enjoyed it once but I would probably not go again.

Rod and Mark are awesome in the roles of Jesus' disciples Andrew and Peter. They helped the audience to know that the disciples were just ordinary people that Jesus used to reach others for God. Ordinary people just like us. Well done!!

  • Sweet. whimsical and beautifully cast

by missmuckle on 2/10/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Main character, Zed, played by Kurt Brocker, appears to actually be GRAY when the play begins and with each scene it becomes obvious he is receiving a transfusion backstage. But maybe it's just the play's author Ms Dillman that brings him to life. This was a delightful couple of hours at a theater I had never visited....but I will return. Don't go hungry (they don't share the cupcakes!) but be prepared to view a transformation.

  • Mediocre play well acted

    by theatre2some on 2/6/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Didn't think the play had much to say but had some interesting character development. Casting was appropriate and acting was good. Didn't like the very long silences at beginning of both acts. I see the point, but they were too long. The natives were getting restless!

Really awesome show. I laughed, I cried and it really made me think. Very well written, very talented actors. I would definitely see this show again.
