  • Crime Scene: an important step toward awareness

by Anonymous on 3/20/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Fresh, honest, real and the talk back was a great opportunity to begin community discussion.

  • "The City and The City" Only Half There

by AllMusicMan on 3/19/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Although Lifeline's current production is well acted, one can tell that it has been adapted from a novel. Too much of the play requires characters, especially the lead detective, to stop and explain to the audience or other characters what certain terms, events, or actions mean that would flow more fluently in a hundred page book. By the last half hour, the action is excellerated to explain the murder mystery of who shot whom for what reason and knew what when, which shows how the pacing of the adaptation is a bit off.

  • Fish Eyes - Great Show

by welovetheater on 3/18/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Fish Eyes was a great show. It was enjoyed by our entire group - included humor and also some very moving scenes. At the conclusion of the play, the actors came out for a short question-and-answer session. Loved it.

Play closed yesterday - what a shame. Great performances, worthy production - wonderful show.

My family, including my 9 year old son, enjoyed the performance very much. Great music selection, interesting choreography, a perfect night out.

SO much fun!! A show full of magic and circus, yet still thought provoking and poignant.

  • A Body of Water was fascinating!

    by theatreafficionado50 on 3/17/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This is a very intriguing, mysterious, amusing and enthralling one-act play in one of Chicago's finest storefront theatres.... the acting and the production values were at the highest level.... definitely worth seeing!

  • The worst Shakespeare production I have ever seen

by Wiseoldken on 3/16/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

    1. The actors did a poor job of reciting the Shakespearean lines -- with the exception of Isabella, the only actor who actually sounded at home with lines. Angelo speaks so slowly and with such little rhythm or passion, it is not clear he in the play; the Duke as well. The priest's put-on Irish brogue makes the lines harder to understand, as does the "authentic" accents of Claudio and the pimps's street language. And the policeman in the court scene has NO comedic sense at all (as well a bad New York accent) - no one laughed at all during that whole scene. 2. While I am all for nudity in the theatre, the 2 bawdy scenes in act 1 are just gratuitous. If you know Shakespeare, you do not need all that pole dancing and screwing to get how bad things were, and if you don't, well IMHO that licentiousness could have been shown much more creatively by focusing on the acting rather than the fancy set and HBO-like required one nude shot per show

  • Columbinus is a must see!

    by mobo1210 on 3/12/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Powerful and amazing. Don't let the topic scare you. This is a must see.

  • An awesome title - fit the show!

by Sixtus on 3/12/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

We loved the entire show - all the singers were very talented - loved all the music! Also liked the intimacy of the theatre. We think we are going to buy season tickets for the 3 remaining shows.

  • Comedic brilliance in a small theater

    by cmt40 on 3/11/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

A group of us traveled from the western suburbs to see Fish Eyes. The actors were wonderful (comedic timing was fantastic!), the script brilliant and we all loved the small, intimacy of the theater. Would definitely recommend it! Seating says Gen Adm, but you actually exchange your ticket for a seat when you arrive. Since we were with a large group, they put us in the back 3 rows. It is a small theater, so we could see, but it would have been nice to be a little closer. There isn't much slope to the seating so we did all find ourselves peering from side to side to get a better view over the people in front of us.

  • Thodos Dance

The Helen Keller portion of the program was outstandingly conceived and well choreographed. The performance was very good.

  • Zombie theatre

I took my teenager to a Zombie based theatre event. This was fun and good.

I am normally a huge fan of any Second City show. I bring out of town guests every chance I get. I have never been displeased with a show...until this one. It was terrible. This show replaced the standard and highly anticipated references to pop-culture, politics and relevant cultural happenings with obscure historic events. The little humor that was delivered was lost in drawn out and weakly improvised sketches. Lastly, there were too many references to suicide. Really?! I feel like I have a laid back sense of humor and I am rarely offended, but almost every sketch was resolved in some way with a reference to suicide. I would definitely take a pass on this show.

  • God of Carnage - Citadel Theatre @ Lake Forest HS

by Geewailea on 3/5/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Was supposed to be funny...wasn't. Maybe it was that the characters weren't developed. Maybe the humor was too subtle. Either way, it wasn't a comedy.

  • Fish Eyes was phenomenal!

    by Prov2717 on 3/5/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

A fantastic play that uses humor and some dramatic moments to take you back in time to the lives of Peter & Andrew when they encountered Jesus. It brought this part of the Bible to life!! The actors were excellent and complemented each other very well, with great timing, emotion and expressions. It was so good, we are looking into buying tickets for other members of our family!

  • An unusual theater experience

by missmuckle on 3/4/13HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Absolutely delightful performance and thoroughly entertaining. There were several children in the audience and they all seemed to be mesmerized through the entire show. Great magic tricks and a little bit of Cirque in the aerial performance, a bunny, a bird, many eggs and lots of physical humor...a little burlesque and vaudeville...there's something for everyone, young and old and everyone in between. Imaginative staging...the truck became another character. Go see this NOW!

It was a thought-provoking rendition of the gospel of John. Though, if someone is not familiar with the gospel then he or she will miss most of the inside jokes.

We brought five kids from age 8 to 13 and everyone (including the adults) really enjoyed the show. The storyline was a little thin but the magic tricks and other acts more than made up for it!
