Great event with both Herb and Lani doing a great job, and with 3 great musicians backing them up. Both Herb and Lani still have it!!
Great show. Lani Hall's voice hasn't lost a thing! Herb can still blow a horn and the band was amazing.
I took Helene to see/hear Herb Alpert. Twas a magic even'g...He was intense and very very good......Helene enjoyed listening to his music live after years of having to listening the music on my CDs in the house and car.....His moments when he spoke to the audience was very special.....Yes his red scarf was great....Helene bought me a scarf for my birthday in November.....and even though I don't usually wear scarves.....I have been wearing one this year....mine is blue plaid ....it was a very good night.....both him and Lani made it a noc to remember.......thank you...RJH
Very warm and intimate. Unbelievably entertaining. Excellent musicians. Great audience participation. Superb encores, Lani Hall's voice is perfect, Truly a joy. Too short.
Always wonderful to enjoy listening to musical legends in a live venue. The concert was very interesting, incorperating different song choices with unexpected arrangements. It kept the show fresh from start to finish. A total gas!
Very evident that the magic is still there for both. The challenge of staying fresh, great young musicians pushing the envelope, and a truly synergistic personal and musical relationship made for a wonderful performance that achieved excellence rather than nostalgia.
Had a great time seeing Herb & Lani. Had great seats(5th row). I had read in a review from 2009 that he didn't play anything from the TJB days, but this time around he did. Lani still has a great voice, he can still play the trumpet, and the band is good, too!
Herb Alpert is an outstanding musician. I wanted more TJB (Tijuana Brass). He only did a short TJB medley with six of his "hits" and spent most of his time backing up his talented wife, Lani Hall...who sounded alot like Barbara Striesand. The Wilbur is a small venue and the show (on a Thursday) was well attended. I'm glad we went...but my heart is in the 60s. He's grown up...I haven't!
Very enjoyable performance. Herb and his band were great. Lani has a great voice. Great show!
One of the greatest concerts I have ever seen. I come from a folk/country/rock perspective and yet this ranks as one of the greatest. These are masterful performers. Wow. From the GAS to to the classic 60s albums and then some.
Herb Alpert displayed the energy of a man 20 years younger. He brilliantly mixed in snippets of his Tijuana Brass hits with his new music, as well as performing many selections from other artists. His wife, Lani Hall, the former lead singer of Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66, accompanied Alpert on most all of the pieces, with her captivating voice. The extremely talented 3 piece band was a perfect compliment. Great Show!
It is rare to enjoy true genus at work. I'm glad to have seen him in person.
Wow- we were blown away by the intimacy and excellency of this event. The rapport between all of the musicians was really great. Lani had a wonderful voice and presence and Herb made us all feel like we were being entertained in his living room.
Intimate performance--like bringing the music in to my living room. Lani Hall's voice is still incredibly crisp--the sound brought great memories of listening to Brazil 66. What a joy for these music icons to bring their unmistakeable sound and relive those memories.
This is as simple and meaningful as it gets; two legends backed up by three musicians enjoying themselves like I have never seen before. Of all the years I have been entertained by Herb Alpert, I have never seen him so relaxed and interactive with the audience. He was funny, clever, and musically on top of his game. Lots of favorites and new material with plenty of improvisation by all. Lani was sleek, entertaining and very supportive of Herb throughout. As usual, her voice was a joy to hear. Support musicians also talented and contributed with improvisations as well.
Fantastic...he's funny, she's beautiful both are true professionals in every sense of the word......and if you close your eyes its Barbara Streisand singing the Bosa Nova. The show was fantastic. Gary does a superb job at the Birchmere especially booking. I would see this artist again, they are worth every penny and yes he does do hit stuff from the BRASS. Show was a 11 out of 10. Thanks for hitting all the notes Herb and Lani ! We had a great time.
The show was quite good. I thought they had a great sound for a small combo. Lani was in excellent voice and Herb can still toot. his horn. I wish that Herb had done more of his old stuff but I understand this was not the venue for Tiaquna Brass stuff.
It was a thoroughly lovely and enjoyable evening. Herb and Lani's love and respect for each other is endearing and refreshing. It was a true dream come true to see them both live and in person at The Birchmere. I have been a fan of theirs since I was a child, practically. They are such endearing and down to earth people. And Herb has a cute sense of humor. And he really converses and connects with his audience. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for the joy that they have brought to my life with their incredible talent and music.
Enjoyed the show alot. Herb Alpert and Lani Hall are American treasures!
Waited for the chance to see Herb for.... A Long time. His wife. Lani has an absolutely incredible voice! The musicians were very good as well. My only regret is not hearing a TJB song in it's entirity. We were teased, but it is very difficult for me to sit there and not have a TJB song playing in my head when I have Herb Alpert in front of me. I would suggest just playing a few .... Please! We know it must be like hearing twinkle, twinkle little star to you, but we all have such great memories of those songs when we were younger. The songs were simple, but that was the beauty of them- can't help but smile when I heard them. I would pay $500 to see the TJB play just once. It was a great show regardless.
