when a meltdown makes sense
by SteveT on 10/14/21Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 5 out of 5from the moment we arrived at the Chevalier Theatre to the minute Hasan left the stage, there was a sense this night was going to be different. vaccination cards were checked, masks were required...even between sips of our drinks, and our phones were ordered off and sequestered in pouches...what happens tonight, stays in this room tonight. except this: never in all my years of seeing a one person comedy show, have i seen a performer so passionate about not only making me laugh, but giving his ALL to try and move me to get my ass in gear to DO SOMETHING about the increasing mess we're creating for ourselves in this country. by show's end Minhaj was writhing, sweating, and screaming on the floor in both an effort to motivate me as well as simply running out of gas because he had only fumes remaining to get himself off stage. he beseached us to trust, while he locked up our phones. and he opened the show with hilarious Matteo Lane who threw us tantalizing softballs so he could nail us with one fastball on the corner after another. this show is going on the road after five nights in Medford. if you get the chance to see it, don't pass it up. you'll laugh, but it will also drive deep into your soul.
